Regards sur le Siam et le roi Chulalongkorn (Rama V) : analyse du discours dans la presse écrite française pendant la période 1868-1910 / The glances at Siam and King Chulalongkorn (King Rama V). : a discourse analysis of French press between 1868 and 1910

Thumrongsanta, Tissawas 20 September 2010 (has links)
This thesis aimed to examine the representation of siam and king chulalongkorn (king rama v) in the journalistic sppech of three french national daily newspapers (le petit jounral, le petit parisien and le matin), published during a period marked by the frech-siamese conflict in 1893 and the official visits of king rama v to france in 1897 and 1907.the media discourse of the press was apprehended at first, based on its communitive purpose, through semiolinguistic heterogeneousness of peritextual devices (titles and illustrations). the reseacher hypothesised that the media discourse was an instrument of information and propaganda at the same time, trying to make the readers accept a point of view in correspondent with the usual attitude of the newspapers. therefore, the study of the narrative, descriptive, explanatory or argumentative forms revealed not only the images of siam and king rama v through different types of textual sequence, but also the ideological prejudice of the writers redarging the diplomatic relations between the two countries. the structure of the ideas, as discursive and interdiscursive levels, was then determinded in touch with the rhetorical properties and the persuasive strength in press’s discourse. finally, the last chapter discussed of enunciative operations in relation to the media process of production and reception – in connection with the historical and factual context –, as well as of the pragmatic position of the journalist and the quoted other speakers (via direct and indirect speech).

A hidden culture : Lan Na court textiles and dress in the 19th century

Conway, S. M. January 2000 (has links)
The inland states of Lan Na were part of an extended cultural area that included western Laos, the eastern Shan states and southwest China. The culture of these inland states was distinctive from coastal Southeast Asia, but was as rich and as complex. The major outside influence was Sinhalese Theravada Buddhism originating from Sri Lanka, which assimilated, or in some cases was grafted onto, ancient indigenous spirit religion beliefs. The textiles and dress of Lan Na developed from the integration of local cultures and societies in the hills and valleys, and from inland trade. A relatively egalitarian ideology permitted the flowering of indigenous skills and innovations, especially among women. This thesis examines, through the medium of 19th century court dress and textiles, how Lan Na society was affected by the threat of British and French colonial expansionism, handled with great skill and diplomacy by the King of Siam. Changes in Lan Na court dress can be viewed as a metaphor for the political maneuvers of the Siamese to remain independent of colonial rule, a unique achievement in Southeast Asia. The Lan Na princes were issued with Euro-Siamese uniforms that displayed their total allegiance to Siam. Meanwhile the princesses continued to wear indigenous dress both at home, and at the Siamese courts, symbolizing political alliances between Siam and Lan Na. The thesis concludes that as women, by custom, did not change the essential elements of their dress, particularly their woven skirts, it was they who transmitted complex cultural messages that continue to represent a cherished indigenous society

Densidade espectral da impureza para o modelo de Anderson / Spectral density for the impurity in Anderson model

Oliveira, Flavio Frois de 13 February 2012 (has links)
We propose an analytical expression for the impurity spectral density in the Kondo regime of the spin-degenerate asymmetric Anderson model. The Anderson model describes quantum systems of magnetic impurities in nonmagnetic metals. For characteristic energies of single and double impurity occupations εf and 2εf+U, respectively, the model is particlehole symmetric for 2εf + U = 0 and asymmetrical 2εf + U ≠ 0. In the symmetric case, there is an expression due to Frota that describes the Kondo resonance in the spectral density. However, in the asymmetric case Frota´s expression is not valid, and a new approach is necessary. In this work, starting with numerical data provided by the Numerical Renormalization Group method developed by Wilson in 1974, we study the asymmetric Anderson model in the Kondo regime and propose an expression for the impurity spectral density that is more general than Frota´s.

Vers la suppression de l’exterritorialité au Siam : le rôle des juristes français sous les règnes de Rama V (1868-1910) et Rama VI (1910-1925) / Towards the suppression of exterritoriality in Siam : the role of French jurists under the reigns of king Rama V (1868-1910) and Rama VI (1910-1925)

Srikrajib, Wanwisa 20 December 2017 (has links)
The main objective of our research is research in the form of analytical description that focuses on the field of legal history rather than strictly in the legal field. The research focuses on the reform of the Siamese law influenced by France and french Counsellors during the reigns of Kings Rama V and Rama VI (1868-1925). In the nineteenth century, the presence of Westerners were causing difficulties in the Kingdom of Siam (Thailand), including the privilege of extraterritoriality. The old legal system compiled in the law of the three seals no longer corresponded to the situation in which the country found itself faced with the growing presence of foreigners are making such trade. So, Kings Rama V and Rama VI decided to reform the law of the country in the Westernizing manner, hoping to reach abolish extraterritorial privileges.

L'influence occidentale sur le développement du théâtre moderne siamois : le cas du Roi Vajiravudh (1910-1925) / Occidental influences on the development of Siamese modern theater : a case study of King Vajiravudh (1910-1925)

Inthano, Theeraphong 24 June 2013 (has links)
Siam – Thailand as it has been known for several decades – is the result of a mix of people, cultures and literatures, which is still dynamic nowadays. Western influence appeared there at the beginning of the 16th century and increased very quickly during the 19th century when its kings had to prepare the kingdom to face the British and Frenchcolonial greed. King Vajiravudh (1910-1925), who studied about ten years in Great Britain, tried to make Occidental-style drama become well-known with his compatriots through translations, adaptations and, later, original works. Contrary to what has generally been affirmed, his action did not mark a break in the history of Thai literature : it was placed in an uninterrupted literary continuity and never rejected the traditional topics : his plays especially brought western dramatic and scenographic techniques, which have been developed through the last century. More than being the actor of a revolution in Thaidrama, King Vajiravudh marked out an evolution which has been continuous for centuries.
