Design and Implementation of a Blockchain-based Global Authentication System Using Biometrics and Subscriber Identification Module

Khalili, Navid 06 June 2022 (has links)
The digital world tolerates a high volume of information and interactions. Considering the usage of electronic services by authorities, User Authentication (UA) is crucial. Numerous authentication methods are proposed in the literature; yet, identifying users based on their actual identities with the capability of global usage and respecting privacy is under research. By adopting Blockchain technology in the software industry, the record management systems have satisfied properties such as transparency, accountability, anonymity, and attack resiliency. Moreover, Smartphones are powerful devices capable of hosting a Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) Card that secures the execution of processes involving use of sensitive information. A combination of these technologies is the foundation of a strong UA in cyberspace. In this thesis, we propose the design and prototype of Blockchain-based Global Authentication System (BBGAS) that offers a secure, privacy-preserving, and transparent authentication system based on users' biometrics via Smartphones appropriate for service provider applications.

Despite its massive scope, the market share for analogue TV in Brazil has been decreasing; cable TV and streaming are taking over. Although TV sets are presently referred to as "intelligent devices" (Smart TV), in fact they blend TV programming and internet, thus needing connection with broadband network and social network applications in order to offer interactivity for analogue TV programming. The need for additional equipment (such as a smartphone or a tablet computer) induces viewers not to watch television; for they get distracted by the diversity of options such devices present (email, news websites, etc.). TV set manufacturers are currently improving the quality of its image and sound, making one feel they are within the show; however there is one step missing in this perception: the intercommunication between the two sides of the screen. This study proposes solutions to the viewer, retrieving that feeling of simplicity inherent to watching TV but with the existing interaction offered in some programs by means of the remote control. Therefore, this technical and scientific study introduces a new method of TV interactivity, employing the return channel interactivity to the Brazilian Digital Television System with the SIM card (intelligent card for GSMtechnology cell phones) and the telecommunication signals used in Brazil. This feature may promote a problem-solving alternative concerning the return channel interactivity, without the internet and its social media, however. As a practical result, the National Patent Application, the Utility Model, the Certificate of Addition to Invention and the entry in the national phase of the PCT at the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) are here reported, so that the patent to the intelligent card can be registered.

Smart Card Packaging Process Control System

Siddiqi, Saad Ahmed January 2012 (has links)
The project focuses on the packaging process of the smart card manufacturing industry. The idea of the project concerns how to increase production packaging efficiency by introducing a control system. After taking an in-depth look at the current production environment, the following system goals were defined: packaging time reduction, cost reduction, decrease in human errors, and reducing the number of customer complaints. To achieve these goals, the thesis project was divided into the following tasks: discovering a feasible solution, actual system development, testing, and evaluation. The proposed system is based on hardware (i.e. barcode scanner, and barcode printer) integrated with customized control software. The barcode scanner acts as a bridge between the system and the production process by scanning a barcode printed on each product. The system prints the required information label for the product’s package according to the scanned product. This label is pasted on the product’s box and is used as a tracking tool during further production steps. The system is very flexible and suits any packaging model. Other functional properties maintained in the system include data security, product traceability, and real time production monitoring. Testing of the system was done in an actual production environment at an Oberthur Technologies manufacturing site. Two production lines were selected to test the system’s functionality, specifically the SIM card production packaging line and the Scratch card/ Bank Card production packaging line. The results obtained during the evaluation phase of the proposed system show that the proposed solution decreased the packaging processing time by (27.3%) over the previous values. Moreover, the resulting human error rate is close to (zero%).

Legal and regulatory aspects of mobile financial services

Perlman, Leon Joseph 11 1900 (has links)
The thesis deals with the emergence of bank and non-bank entities that provide a range of unique transaction-based payment services broadly called Mobile Financial Services (MFS) to unbanked, underserved and underbanked persons via mobile phones. Models of MFS from Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), banks, combinations of MNOs and banks, and independent Mobile Financial Services Providers are covered. Provision by non-banks of ‘bank-type’ services via mobile phones has been termed ‘transformational banking’ versus the ‘additive banking’ services from banks. All involve the concept of ‘branchless banking’ whereby ‘cash-in/cash out’ services are provided through ‘agents.’ Funds for MFS payments may available through a Stored Value Product (SVP), particularly through a Stored Value Account SVP variant offered by MNOs where value is stored as a redeemable fiat- or mobile ‘airtime’-based Store of Value. The competitive, legal, technical and regulatory nature of non-bank versus bank MFS models is discussed, in particular the impact of banking, payments, money laundering, telecommunications, e-commerce and consumer protection laws. Whether funding mechanisms for SVPs may amount to deposit-taking such that entities could be engaged in the ‘business of banking’ is discussed. The continued use of ‘deposit’ as the traditional trigger for the ‘business of banking’ is investigated, alongside whether transaction and paymentcentric MFS rises to the ‘business of banking.’ An extensive evaluation of ‘money’ based on the Orthodox and Claim School economic theories is undertaken in relation to SVPs used in MFS, their legal associations and import, and whether they may be deemed ‘money’ in law. Consumer protection for MFS and payments generally through current statute, contract, and payment law and common law condictiones are found to be wanting. Possible regulatory arbitrage in relation to MFS in South African law is discussed. The legal and regulatory regimes in the European Union, Kenya and the United States of America are compared with South Africa. The need for a coordinated payments-specific law that has consumer protections, enables proportional risk-based licensing of new non-bank providers of MFS, and allows for a regulator for retail payments is recommended. The use of trust companies and trust accounts is recommended for protection of user funds. | vi / Public, Constitutional and International Law / LLD
