Resistência e ductilidade das ligações laje-pilar em lajes-cogumelo de concreto de alta resistência armado com fibras de aço e armadura transversal de pinos / Resistance and ductiliy of slab-column connections on high strength concrete flat slabs with steel fibers and shear reinforcement

Aline Passos de Azevedo 22 April 1999 (has links)
This work analyses the punching shear resistance and ductility of slab-column connections on twelve concrete flat slab models. The model characteristics resulted from combinations of the application of high or ordinary strength concrete, different steel fiber volume fractions and use or not of shear reinforcement. All the slabs are square with 1,160 mm of side and 100 mm of thickness. The main flexural reinforcement was composed of 10 mm steel bars spaced in such a way to resist to the same bending moment in both directions. When used, the shear reinforcement of steel studs were disposed in radial directions and consisted of 6.6 mm steel bars welded to flat steel segments in their ends. To evaluate the resistant capacity of slab-column connection models and to observe the ductility that the fibers provide, they were rehearsed segments-of-slab, which represents a strip of these slab-column connection models. A testing system with a servo-controlled hydraulic jack was used and it was programmed for a controlled deformation test and continuous data acquisition. This method allowed the evaluation of the post-peak strength behavior and the measurement of residual resistance forces. Several calculations hypotheses were used to evaluate the ultimate strength of the slab-column connections. A classification criterium was applied to characterize the failure type as: predominant punching or flexure or a combination of punching-flexure. It was verified that the application of high strength concrete, together with shear reinforcement, increases substantially the slab-column connection strength, and, when combined with steel fibers, a considerable ductility increase is achieved.

Avaliação das propriedades mecânicas do concreto de lajes alveolares pré-fabricadas utilizando ensaios não destrutivos / Evaluation of the mechanical properties of concrete of precast hollow core slabs using nondestructive testing.

Lucas Marrara Juliani 17 December 2014 (has links)
This work presents two types of non-destructive testing for the correlation of the dynamic elastic modulus with the compressive strength. The test methods are the ultrasonography and the impulse excitation using the Sonelastic® equipment. In this work the equipaments operations, applications and limitations are also described. The ultrasound test indirectly supplies the dynamic elastic modulus through the propagation of sound waves. The natural frequencies and the vibration modes of the studied elements are obtained through impulse excitation method allowing to determine its dynamic modulus. To start, these tests were used in cylindrical specimens and hollow core slabs produced in the laboratory to obtain the correlation curves, and then these same methods were performed in the pre-cast concrete plant. As for complex geometric elements, as in the case of hollow core slabs, a methodology is applied in order to obtain an analytic equation to calculate the dynamic modulus in the impulse excitation test. These methods had the final goal the evaluation of the strength of prestressed concrete lying on track of the plant, so as to determine the best moment to demold and cut the prestressed cable. Excellent correlations of the dynamic modulus with compressive strength of the elements made in laboratory were obtained using both methods. It was not possible to obtain in the precast concrete plant a representative correlation curve of the whole slab on the track, nevertheless, it was possible to record a good indication that it is possible to obtain good correlations for future research.

[en] COMPOSITE SLAB SYSTEM FOR RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTIONS USING COLD FORMED STEEL PLATES WITH EMBOSSMENTS / [pt] SISTEMA DE LAJE-MISTA PARA EDIFICAÇÕES RESIDENCIAIS COM O USO DE PERFIS EMBOSSADOS DE CHAPA DOBRADA

JULIANA DA CRUZ VIANNA 29 August 2005 (has links)
[en] The research work in composite slabs so far conducted has investigated various alternatives for the development of an economic and efficient composite slab system. These alternatives evaluated the effectiveness of the concrete to steel plate bonding by means of: web corrugations (Andrade, 1986), self-drilling bolts (Takey, 2001), cold formed channel sections with diaphragms (Vieira, 2003), and the used of deep circular corrugations, (Beltrão, 2003). The present investigation main objective was to develop a cold formed profile presenting an efficient connection between the concrete and the steel profile that yields a ductile behaviour for such system. The first step of the investigation was devoted to the assessment of an optimum cold-formed profile geometry. This task was made taking into account parameters like: profile weight, plate thickness, yield stress, maximum span and load carrying capacity among others. Following the definition of the optimum cold formed steel profile an experimental program was conceived and executed. The first part of the experiments consisted on pull-outs tests made to access the concrete to steel bond resistance. This was followed by simple supported tests on the cold formed steel profile to evaluate their stiffness during concrete casting operation. Finally a full-scale composite slab system was performed. The main aim of this test was to determine the composite system load carrying capacity, typical failure modes, associated stresses and displacements. The final phase of this dissertation depicts comparisons of the already mentioned experiments to other tests made by Takey (Takey, 2001), and Beltrão (Beltrão, 2003), as well as comparison of theoretical results, to validate the proposed composite slab system results.

An efficient wavelet representation for large medical image stacks

Forsberg, Daniel January 2007 (has links)
Like the rest of the society modern health care has to deal with the ever increasing information flow. Imaging modalities such as CT, MRI, US, SPECT and PET just keep producing more and more data. Especially CT and MRI and their 3D image stacks cause problems in terms of how to effectively handle these data sets. Usually a PACS is used to manage the information flow. Since a PACS often is implemented with a server-client setup, the management of these large data sets requires an efficient representation of medical image stacks that minimizes the amount of data transmitted between server and client and that efficiently supports the workflow of a practitioner. In this thesis an efficient wavelet representation for large medical image stacks is proposed for the use in a PACS. The representation supports features such as lossless viewing, random access, ROI-viewing, scalable resolution, thick slab viewing and progressive transmission. All of these features are believed to be essential to form an efficient tool for navigation and reconstruction of an image stack. The proposed wavelet representation has also been implemented and found to be better in terms of memory allocation and amount of data transmitted between server and client when compared to prior solutions. Performance tests of the implementation has also shown the proposed wavelet representation to have a good computational performance.

Development and structural testing of new basalt fiber-reinforced-polymer (BFRP) bars in RC beams and bridge-deck slabs / Étude du comportement structural de poutres et de dalles de ponts en béton armé d'une nouvelle armature à base de fibre de basalte sous charge statique

Elgabbas, Fareed Mahmoud January 2016 (has links)
Abstract: The advances in fiber-reinforced-polymer (FRP) technology have spurred interest in introducing new fibers, such as basalt FRP (BFRP), which has the potential to offer an efficient solution when implemented in concrete structure, such as corrosion resistant, durable and cost-effective. Furthermore, the available design codes and guides do not provide any recommendations for the use of BFRP bars since fundamental studies and relevant applications are still limited. Therefore, investigations are needed to characterize and understand the behavior of BFRP bars in concrete members. Consequently, the main objectives of this experimental investigation are to evaluate the short- and long-term characteristics of newly developed BFRP bars, as well as evaluate the structural performance of these new bars as internal reinforcement for concrete beams and bridge-deck slabs to introduce these new reinforcing bars to the design codes and guides. The experimental tests were completed through three parts. The first part was conducted on three newly developed BFRP bars and tendons to investigate their physical and mechanical properties. Durability and long-term performance were assessed by conditioning the BFRP bars in an alkaline solution simulating the moist concrete environment to determine their suitability as internal reinforcement for concrete elements. Thereafter, the properties were assessed and compared with the unconditioned (reference) values. The second part of this study was conducted on seven full-scale edge-restrained concrete bridge-deck slabs simulating actual slab-on-girder bridge-deck that is commonly used in North America to evaluate the performance of concrete bridge-deck slabs reinforced with BFRP and steel bars. The deck slabs measured 3000 mm long × 2500 mm wide × 200 mm deep. The slabs were tested up to failure under single concentrated load acting on the center of each slab simulating the footprint of sustained truck wheel load. The punching shear capacities were predicted using the available provisions, and compared with the experimental results. The third part of this study included testing of fourteen concrete beams of 3100 mm long × 200 mm wide × 300 mm deep to investigate the flexural behavior and serviceability performance of sand-coated and ribbed BFRP bars in concrete beams. The beams were tested under four-point bending over a clear span of 2700 mm until failure. The results are introduced and discussed in terms of cracking behavior, deflection, flexure capacity, and failure modes. In addition, the bond-dependent coefficient (kb) of the BFRP bars was determined and compared with the recommendations of the current FRP design codes and guides. The findings of this study concluded the feasibility of producing BFRP bars meet the requirements of the current FRP standards. Also, the test results revealed that the BFRP bars had good mechanical behavior and could be placed in the same category as grade II and grade III GFRP bars. Moreover, the behavior of the concrete bridge-deck slabs and beams reinforced with BFRP bars was quite similar to the counterparts reinforced with glass- and carbon-FRP bars and the available FRP provisions are applicable for BFRP bars. The beam test results yielded an average bond-dependent coefficient (kb) of 0.76±0.03 and 0.83±0.03 for the sand-coated and ribbed BFRP bars, respectively.

Effective Bayesian inference for sparse factor analysis models

Sharp, Kevin John January 2011 (has links)
We study how to perform effective Bayesian inference in high-dimensional sparse Factor Analysis models with a zero-norm, sparsity-inducing prior on the model parameters. Such priors represent a methodological ideal, but Bayesian inference in such models is usually regarded as impractical. We test this view. After empirically characterising the properties of existing algorithmic approaches, we use techniques from statistical mechanics to derive a theory of optimal learning in the restricted setting of sparse PCA with a single factor. Finally, we describe a novel `Dense Message Passing' algorithm (DMP) which achieves near-optimal performance on synthetic data generated from this model.DMP exploits properties of high-dimensional problems to operate successfully on a densely connected graphical model. Similar algorithms have been developed in the statistical physics community and previously applied to inference problems in coding and sparse classification. We demonstrate that DMP out-performs both a newly proposed variational hybrid algorithm and two other recently published algorithms (SPCA and emPCA) on synthetic data while it explains at least the same amount of variance, for a given level of sparsity, in two gene expression datasets used in previous studies of sparse PCA.A significant potential advantage of DMP is that it provides an estimate of the marginal likelihood which can be used for hyperparameter optimisation. We show that, for the single factor case, this estimate exhibits good qualitative agreement both with theoretical predictions and with the hyperparameter posterior inferred by a collapsed Gibbs sampler. Preliminary work on an extension to inference of multiple factors indicates its potential for selecting an optimal model from amongst candidates which differ both in numbers of factors and their levels of sparsity.

Desenvolvimento e caracterização de placas poliméricas produzidas a partir da reciclagem do resíduo industrial de poliuretana termofixa / Development and characterization of polymeric plates produced from the recycling of industrial waste thermoset polyurethane.

Victor José dos Santos Baldan 25 February 2015 (has links)
This study proposes the development of a composite material in the form of polymer slabs. The material is created from the incorporation of recycled thermoset polyurethane to castor oil resin and glass fiber mats. Composite materials are formed by two phases with different chemical and physical properties. One phase is a matrix, and the other a reinforcement. These materials are highly stiff, light, have mechanical strength and present better responses to fatigue under cyclic loads. These properties make them a substitute for noble materials, being eligible for uses in aviation, sports, the arms industry and, specially, civil construction. Furthermore, composites may be obtained by the incorporation of residue, solving problems of waste disposal. In the procedures undertaken, the industrial waste of thermoset polyurethane is transformed into a recycled aggregate, achieved by the cutting, grinding, characterization and classification in compliance to the ABNT standards (NBR 10.004 to10.007). Afterwards, with the use of a thermal press, it was possible to produce the slabs and characterize them according to the following properties: mechanical (tensile strength, and puncture), physical (water absorption, swelling and stiffness), thermal (conductivity) and the potential durability (resistance to impact, abrasion, chemical attack. ultraviolet and weather exposure, electrical resistance, and flammability). The test results indicated that the composite behaves similarly to materials used in civil construction, which enables its use in the area.
