afflicted by multipath propagation effects. It has also been shown that adaptive
equalization can be highly effective in mitigating these effects. However, numerous
other factors influence the behavior of adaptive equalization, and the type of modulation
employed is certainly one of these factors. This is particularly true on modulations that
exhibit different operating bandwidths. Computer simulations using the Constant
Modulus Algorithm (CMA) have recently been reported for PCM/FM, ARTM Tier 1
SOQPSK, and Tier II SOQPSK. These encouraging results have led to a hardware
implementation of a CMA equalizer. This paper presents the latest results from this
work.

interference and adjacent channel interference (ACI) in aeronautical telemetry applications using
ARTM Tier-1 waveforms. The proposed method uses a linear equalizer that is derived using
Kalman filtering theory, which has been used for channel equalization for high-speed
communication systems. We illustrate the proposed method with numerical examples obtained
from simulations that show the bit error rate performance (BER) for different modulation
schemes.

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 20-23, 2003 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / This paper will present equations for calculating the minimum recommended frequency separation of two digital telemetry signals. The signals can be filtered continuous phase frequency shift keying (CPFSK), multi-h continuous phase modulation (CPM) [1], shaped offset quadrature phase shift keying-Telemetry Group (SOQPSK-TG, aka SOQPSK-A*) [2], or Feher’s patented quadrature phase shift keying FQPSK-B (or FQPSK-JR [3]). The equations are based on measured data in an adjacent channel interference (ACI) environment for filtered CPFSK (aka PCM/FM), multi-h CPM (or CPM for short), SOQPSK-TG, FQPSK-JR, and FQPSK-B. This paper is an extension of my 2001 and 2002 International Telemetering Conference papers on this topic [4, 5]. The quantity measured was bit error probability (BEP) versus frequency separation at a given signal energy per bit to noise power spectral density ratio (Eb/No). The interferers were CPFSK, CPM, SOQPSK-TG or FQPSK-B (-JR) signals. The results presented in this paper will be for a desired signal bit rate of 1 to 20 Mb/s, one interferer 20 dB larger than the desired signal (a few tests included two interferers), and various center frequency spacings, interfering signals, receivers, and demodulators. The overall ACI test effort has collected data sets at several bit rates and with one and two interferers. The results will be useful to system designers and range operators as they attempt to maximize the number of Mb/s that can be simultaneously transmitted with minimal interference in the telemetry bands.

We compare four types of coherent detectors for SOQPSK-TG, which are optimal detector, pulse truncation (PT) detector, standard OQPSK detector and modified OQPSK detector. The simulation and analysis results indicate that PT detector has the advantages of low complexity and good performance, so it has more practicality value.

program, because it offers 50% better spectral efficiency than Feher-patented FQPSK, which is the
Tier I waveform. Shaped Offset QPSK has been shown to be nearly identical in performance to
Feher-patented FQPSK. Both the Tier I and Tier II waveforms must operate in the presence of
adjacent channel interference in order to meet the range community's telemetry requirements. This
paper presents an experimental characterization of SOQPSK and Multi-h CPM in the presence of
adjacent channel interference, over a range of channel spacings and differential signal amplitudes.
Quantitative results are presented which demonstrate the relative robustness of the ARTM Tier I and
Tier II waveforms, with adjacent channel interference representative of a typical range environment.

A Survey of Sparse Channel Estimation in Aeronautical TelemetryHogstrom, Christopher James 01 June 2017 (has links)
Aeronautical telemetry suffers from multipath interference, which can be resolved through the use of equalizers at the receiver. The coefficients of data-aided equalizers are computed from a channel estimate. Most channels seen in aeronautical telemetry are sparse, meaning that most of the coefficients of the channel are zero or nearly zero. The maximum likelihood (ML) estimate does not always produce a sparse channel estimate. This thesis surveys a number of sparse estimation algorithms that produce a sparse channel estimate and compares the post-equalizer bit error rates (BER) using these sparse estimates with the post-equalizer BER using the ML estimate. I show that the generalized Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (GOMP) performs the best followed by the Sparse Estimation based on Validation Re-estimated Least Squares (SPARSEVA-RE) and the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO).

<p>Beroende på i vilken miljö man har tänkt att använda trådlös kommunikation behöver man hitta en modulationsteknik som passar under rådande förhållanden. I början på 1980-talet utvecklade den Amerikanska militären en modulationsteknik som kallas för Shaped BPSK (SBPSK) avsedd att tillämpas i kommunikationslänkar med satelliter. Vidareutveckling av SBPSK ledde sedan fram till en förbättrad variant kallad Shaped Offset QPSK (SOQPSK). På senare år har denna modulationsteknik börjat användas i civila tillämpningar och vidareutvecklats ytterligare för att ge den än bättre prestanda. År 2004 antogs SOQPSK som en modulationsteknik i den internationella flygplanskommunikationsstandarden, IRIG-106. Versionen av SOQPSK som antogs i IRIG-106 har flera bra egenskaper som t. ex. dess spektraltäthet. Detta gör denna typ av modulationsteknik lämpad för kommunikationslänkar med bl.a. flygplan, satelliter och rymdsonder (‘deep-space’).</p><p>Målet med examensarbetet har varit att implementera algoritmer för att skicka och ta emot SOQPSK-modulerade signaler. Dessa algoritmer skulle utvecklas i VHDL för att sedan syntetiseras och programmera en FPGA. Uppgiften har givits av Syncore Technologies AB i Linköping.</p><p>Arbetet har resulterat i fungerande implementationer både i mjukvara och hårdvara. Hårdvarulösningen är verifierad att klara bithastiheter upp till 30 Mbit/s. Teoretisk information om allmän modulering/demodulering och specifikt kring SOQPSK behandlas i rapporten. Uppbyggnaden av en teoretisk sändar- och mottagarmodell utformad för SOQPSK-kommunikation beskrivs också i rapporten för att ge en bättre helhetsbild av implementationen som utförts.</p><p>Arbetets syfte är att ligga till grund för Syncore AB som utvecklar en kom- munikationslänk med SOQPSK-kompatibilitet.</p>

Performance Evaluation of Space-Time Coding on an Airborne Test PlatformTemple, Kip 10 1900 (has links)

While mitigating one problem, this also creates a co-channel interference problem as the same signal, time delayed with differing amplitude, is sent to both antennas. Space-Time Coding (STC) was developed with the intention of mitigating this co-channel interference problem, also known as the "two antenna problem". Lab testing and preliminary flight testing of developmental and pre-production hardware has been completed and documented. This is the first test dedicated to assessing the performance of a production STC system in a real-world test environment. This paper will briefly describe lab testing that preceded the flight testing, describes the airborne and ground station configurations used during the flight test, and provides detailed results of the performance of the space time coded telemetry link as compared against a reference telemetry link.

This paper defines the waveform and presents the bit error rate (BER) performance of SOQPSK coupled with a rate 2/3 LDPC code. The scheme described here expands the transmission bandwidth by approximately 56% (which is still 22% less than the legacy PCM/FM modulation), for the benefit of improving link margin by over 10 dB at BER = 10⁻⁶.

Unlike conventional frequency-division multiple access, we assign overlapping frequency bands to different users with a minimum carrier separation corresponding to the symbol rate. We utilize multiuser detection strategies at the ground station to separate the transmissions from different test articles. As shown by the simulation results, the proposed scheme is robust to large frequency offsets due to oscillator offsets and Doppler shifts commonly encounters in aeronautical telemetry applications.
