Prediction of Factors Influencing Rats Tuberculosis Detection Performance Using Data Mining Techniques

Jonathan, Joan January 2019 (has links)
This thesis aimed to predict the factors that influence rats TB detection performance using data mining techniques. A rats TB detection performance dataset was given from APOPO TB training and research center in Morogoro, Tanzania. After data preprocessing, the size of the dataset was 471,133 rats TB detection performance observations and a sample size of 4 female rats. However, in the analysis, only 200,000 data observations were used. Based on the CRISP-DM methodology, this thesis used R language as a data mining tool to analyze the given data. To build the predictive model the classification technique was used to predict the influencing factors and classify rats using a decision tree, random forest, and naive Bayes algorithms. The built predictive models were validated with the same test data to check their classification prediction accuracy and to find the best. The results pinpoint that the random forest is the best predictive model with an accuracy of 78.82%. However, the accuracy differences are negligible. When considering the predictive model accuracy (78.78%) and speed (3 seconds) of the decision tree, it is the best predictive model since it has less building time compared to the random forest (154 seconds). Moreover, the results manifest that age is the most significant influencing factor, and rats of ages between 3.1 to 6 years portrayed potentiality in detection performance. The other predicted factors are Session_Completion_Time, Session_Start_Time, and Av_Weight_Per_Year. These results are useful as a reference to rats TB trainers and researchers in rats TB and Information Systems. Further research using other data mining techniques and tools is valuable.

Waninger, Linnéa January 2019 (has links)

The EU’s agricultural policy and its effect on food security and small-scale farming : A comparative study on the impacts of the CAP in Africa and Latin America

Langefors, Sara January 2019 (has links)
This study examines and problematises how the European Union's agricultural policy impact small-scale farming and food security in developing countries. The focus of the study is on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and how this EU policy affects small-scale farming and food security with Argentina, Brazil, Mozambique and Uganda as case examples. The CAP has affected the agricultural sectors in developing countries negatively since its launch, with particularly damaging effects on small-scale farmers. This problem is theoretically framed within a political ecology approach, backed up by environmental justice and a food sovereignty approach. The results are found using a qualitative comparative literature study, and critical reading is used to analyse previous research and EU reports. Based on the previous research and the theoretical framework the study concludes that Argentina, Brazil, Mozambique and Uganda have all experienced some extent of negative impacts of the EU’s agricultural policy. The tariffs and subsidies from the EU policy have affected the countries in different ways, resulting in mostly negative impacts on small-scale farming and food security.

Establishment of Technical Life Science Consulting Services in a Local Government Market

Gärdemalm Niemi, Matilda, Rydberg Öhrling, Sara, Stam, Emma January 2019 (has links)
This master thesis evaluates the possibility for Semcon AB to establish a business within the public sector of Uppsala. The need and prerequisites for technical life science consultant services has been investigated by interviewing experts in their field. The study is explanatory and contributes with an understanding of the current situation and the outlook for consultants in in the public sector, with Region Uppsala as the targeted customer. The results show that the need for consultants lies within IT, logistics, medtech, and construction. A consultant should preferably have a combination of these competences. Another possibility is to aid the public sector with the difficulties in specifying the requirements of a procurement. There are different ways of establishing a business with Region Uppsala. Either by a framework agreement, as a subcontractor, or by innovation procurement. One aspect of successful collaboration between a consultant company and the public sector is the attitudes toward consultants. The result indicates generally positive attitudes. Despite this a concern of knowledge disappearing when the assignment is finished exists. Therefore, transparency as well as constant feedback and evaluation is highly important.

European External Border Management and its Narratives : Aspects of Dominance and Neocolonialism in European Foreign Policy during the “Refugee Crisis”

Begemann, Jonas January 2019 (has links)
Large numbers of incoming refugees since 2015 were perceived as a major challenge for European cooperation and migratory regimes and the situation has within Europe soon been seen as a crisis. Since then, European states and the European Union (EU) have intensified measures to shut down migrant routes to Europe as well as their attempts to externalise means of protection of refugees in Africa. Based on a theoretical framework consisting of political science border studies, postcolonial studies and the method of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) together with the study of narratives in politics, this thesis analyses two critical events in this field, the 2015 Valletta Summit on migration where European and African leaders discussed the terms of migration cooperation and the 2018 debate on disembarkation platforms. The focus in this work lies especially on neocolonial elements in the power relations between Europe and Africa and how these are expressed in the narratives that were used to justify and explain the action taken. For this purpose, official documents, speeches, interviews and additional utterances from European heads of states and European politicians as well as from African heads of states and African Union (AU) representatives are analysed. Eventually, the thesis comes to the conclusion that a form of neocolonial exists that is here named implicit or indirect neocolonialism.

Karlsson, Jenny, Kull, Ida January 2012 (has links)
