"Qué Dice Usted?": Discourses of Femininity in Nueva Trova CubanaGraper, Julianne 29 September 2014 (has links)
Following the Revolution of 1959, the Cuban government implemented policy reforms geared towards increasing women's rights. Despite these efforts, however, sexism persists in Cuban society. This difference between rhetoric and reality is reflected in the song genre, nueva trova, which foregrounds a progressive agenda for women's rights but continues to marginalize their participation. Prominent nueva trova performers Silvio Rodríguez and Pablo Milanés advocate women's rights in their songs, but their music remains couched in patriarchal structures that prevent women from speaking for themselves. Sara González, one of the first prominent female nueva trova composers, was able to integrate into government-supported trova institutions by adopting a masculine, revolutionary aesthetic, which she then adapted to feminist themes to combat the ideological disparity. Recent performers have split between a more complacent attitude, found in novísima trova, or a direct challenge to the patriarchy centered on an aesthetic of contestation in rap cubano.

Recherche d'indicateurs périphériques de l'acidose ruminale subaiguë chez la vache laitière / Rumen’s peripheral indicators of subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA) in dairy cowsVillot, Clothilde 15 December 2017 (has links)
In ruminants, subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA) is a nutritional disease that induces an abnormal acidity of the rumen compartment as well as disturbance in microbial fermentation. When the disease becomes chronic, it can lead to negative effects on production efficiency and animal health at the individual or the herd scales, with negative economic consequences for the farmer. One of the major problems of SARA is that there are no obvious clinical signs. Presently, the only benchmark to define SARA is rumen pH. However, no pH indicator is unanimous due to the important variability related both to the measurement technique itself and to the animal susceptibility. In this context, this thesis aimed to improve the individual diagnosis of SARA in dairy cows by developing a multiparametric approach that could be used on field. We propose new indicators of pH kinetics measured noninvasively with intra-ruminal boluses. These new relative indicators, calculated daily (kinetic normalised on 0, NpH), consist of the time spent under NpH < - 0.3, the NpH standard deviation and the NpH range. These indicators make it possible to overcome the strong sources of variability and have the advantage of being transposable while being more accurate to characterize SARA. At the same time, we have developed multiparametric models including a number of parameters measured simultaneously in various biological compartments (milk, faeces, saliva, blood, urine) or on animal behaviour. The models ability to predict SARA has been evaluated on field. Some models including rumen peripheral parameters (concentration of urea in milk, of bicarbonate in blood, salivary pH) have a proficient sensitivity while others have a proficient specificity (number of drinking acts, faecal pH, and urea concentration in milk). However, no model developed is both sensitive and specific enough. The diagnostic strategy we propose is based on 4 steps: 1) analysis of the SARA diagnostic context, 2) assessment of risk factors, 3) evaluation of multiparametric models and (4) determination of ruminal NpH indicators for individuals presenting a high risk of SARA.

Vem är hon? : Flickskapets konstruktion i två samtida svenska ungdomsromanerEliasson, Sofie January 2018 (has links)

Abstract: To search the characteristics of gypsy culture is always an ambitious task since it brings a variety of meaning and possibilities for interpretation for it is considered exotic, artistic, religious, among other. This research, initially, sought to focus only one of its aspects: the gypsy body as a social construction which by expressing itself brings out memories. However, as poetry teaches us, there are no pre-paths... The path is to walk. Gypsies, a complex unit, ethnic mosaic. Rhythms and images. Materiality and meaning. Thus, the body-memory was addressed in the complex gypsy universe. The chapters of this work flourished and grew in the light of such complexity of the gypsy people that is completely impossible to be fragmented. In this context, the central object of analysis, along the route of study and research, went beyond the body-memory, making it necessary deepening the gipsy ethos [1}, their stories, memories, beliefs and in particular their greatest belief: Sara Kali. In order to achieve this, a harmonious constellation was blended in presenting the Gypsies - free of stereotypes (First Chapter). Gypsies pilgrims who gather their voices, even belonging to different tribes: many voices in one only voice, many worlds within the same world - the myth of Kali Sara (Second Chapter). At last, what was once the beginning: gypsies who write and rewrite the text of their own existence through the ritual of poetry and dance (Third Chapter). Incorporated into the area of Visual Anthropology and driven by the intention of making photographic images and reports of some social actors, the subject of reflection and point of departure and arrival of the whole process of formation of Roma identity, this study aimed to demonstrate not only the cultural elements of Roma, that can be nearer or farther from its own predominant culture, but we care to verify how they organize their memoirs printed in their bodies because, even around the world, they present themselves as a group with marked identity.

Evaluation of pulmonary complications in dogs with severe sepsis submitted to intensive therapyMarcelo Kitsis 18 February 2011 (has links)
The advances in intensive care has allowed to offer better support to animals with severe sepsis. This is a clinical syndrome characterized by systemic inflammatory response associated with organic dysfunction, such as acute pulmonary injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). In humans, this syndrome results in significant mortality, but, in veterinary medicine there are not many studies about this. The aim of this study was to evaluate the development the pulmonary complications in animals submitted to intensive care. In this study were included 14 animals with severe sepsis secondary to pyometra. During the period of intensive care the animals were evaluated: heart and respiratory rates, systolic blood pression, urine output, central venous pression lactate, lactate, central venous saturation, arterial hemogasometric and thoracic x-ray. All animals (100%) had abnormal breathing, three of these dogs eventually died (21.42%) and 11 (78.57%) out of intensive care. Animals with severe sepse secondary to pyometra underwent intensive therapy, requiring a chest radiographic daily in order to establish adequate respiratory support, and thus achieve lower mortality rates.
