In this thesis I have examined how inner and outer preparations associated with a live experience can affect both the audience and the musicians on stage during a concert. What happens when we change the placement of the stage and the distribution of the musicians on it? By challenging conventional setups and methods of a live performance, is it possible to amplify the musicians and thereby creating a better end result for the audience as well? The testing of my thesis was carried out through a concert consisting of three acts with different concepts: “Focus inwards”, “Focus that way” and “Focus energy”. During the project I composed and arranged music in a way that would give the ensemble the optimal conditions for focusing on the music itself and the communication on stage during the concert. I also hoped to enhance communication by placing the stage in the middle of the room with the audience surrounding it.  Afterwards surveys were distributed to the musicians and the audience. The result was among other things that the ensemble shared a sense of excitement and felt like the concert lasted longer than concerts usually do. Syftet med denna självstudie är att erhålla kunskap om hur ögonblickets interpretation, dvs. känslan av varande i nuet uppnås inför och under sceniska framträdanden. Studiens frågeställningar är: Vilka tillvägagångssätt används för att uppnå det mentala tillstånd som gör att en känsla varande i nuet infinner sig? Vilka insikter behövs för att en sådan känsla ska infinna sig? Studien utgår från ett hermeneutiskt perspektiv och metod är observation med hjälp av videoinspelning och loggbok. Resultatet presenteras utifrån tre teman: Strävan efter innehållslig förståelse, Insikter av betydelse och Ökad medvetenhet. I diskussionskapitlet vägs resultatet mot den litteratur och tidigare forskning som presenteras i bakgrundskapitlet. / The purpose of this study is to obtain knowledge about how the present moment in music, i.e., the feeling of being in the present moment is achieved before and during musical performances. The study is based on a hermeneutic perspective and the method of choice is video recording and logbook. The results are presented according to three themes: The quest for contextual understanding, insights of importance and increased awareness. In the discussion the result is measured to the literature and previous research presented in the background chapter.

Den här uppsatsen är ett försök att ringa in och samla ihop tankar kring vad det är att vara närvarande på scen samt hur man kan lära ut det. Arbetet innehåller citat och referat från intervjuer med sju personer: En skådespelare, en koreograf, en jazzsaxofonist och improvisatör, två sångerskor och sångpedagoger, en sångerska och låtskrivare samt en klassisk altviolininst. Här finns också citat och referat ur relevant litteratur. Arbetet ska ses som en ingång till ämnet snarare än en djupdykning.
