Den uteblivna kommunikationen : - Som knäcker dig / The lack of communication : - That breaks you in half

Wallenius Fehrman, Sanna, Anja, Johansson January 2012 (has links)
Our study illustrates health communication in order to find out how widespread the knowledge is about osteoporosis and how to reach out with health information to the public.   Our essay was conducted through quantitative surveys, which included 402 respondents. This in order to highlight the prevailing uncertainty about the public disorder osteoporosis, which is common in Sweden. We wish to examine trough which channels our respondents choose to collect their health information. The thesis framework includes theories such as McGuire’s ProcessingTheory, Agenda setting, Two-step hypothesis and Diffusion of innovation. Through these theories, we analyzed our empirical data that emerged.   The results showed that our respondents had very low knowledge of osteoporosis, although theyshowed interest for health information. The results also showed that respondents were consistent intheir actions regarding which channels they came to turn to. They prefered their health informationfrom news papers and family, friends and work colleagues. When asked where they got their information from, the respondents answered mostly from family, friends and work colleagues, followed closely by newspapers. This shows that respondents are more receptive to informationfrom the channels of their own choice. The results also showed that the propensity to change behavior increases with the age of the respondents.

Pupils' interaction with a Science Centre: Communication perspective analysis

Islam, Md. Khademul January 2005 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate pupils’ knowledge about science and what role science center is playing as a medium of communication to increase knowledge among students. This study also tried to find out pupils’ interaction: how they use science center as a source of scientific information, what they learn from their visit to a science center, their pattern of communication with it. This project also measured attraction, holding and learning power of exhibits of the science center at Dalarna University in Borlänge and learning power of planetarium program and slide show of Stella Nova Planetarium at Dalarna University. The subjects of this study consisted of students of class seven and eight and teachers of an urban school in Borlänge, Sweden. To find out students’ learning in a science center a pre and post visit test were conducted through questionnaires. Interview method by questionnaires was also used to explore pupils’ interaction with science center. The results of this study show that students learn by their visit to a science center but learning was not statistically significant (0.05).Girls learnt better than boys. School classes that have better pre-knowledge about science before a visit to a science center learnt worse than other classes having less pre-knowledge. Girls and boys interact with a science center in different ways. Science center is playing important role as a science communicator.

Mokslo žurnalistika: prielaidos, patirtys bei iššūkiai Lietuvoje ir Suomijoje / Science journalism: assumptions, experiences and challenges in Lithuania and Finland

Birbilaitė, Inesa 18 June 2008 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Transmission of scientific news through media channels involves three main communication members: scientists, journalists and society. If all three participants are active and interested in communication, effective process of science journalism or even interactive dialogue between communication members can be realized. Interaction peculiarities in communication between journalists and scientists, between scientists and society or between journalists and society are significant while describing consistency of scientific news in media channels or evaluating science journalism professionalism in the country. Mokslo komunikacijos strategijų transformacijos: profesinių mokyklų atvejis / Science communication transformations: case of the vocational training

Lukšaitė, Asta 30 January 2014 (has links)
Some of the most important social and economic objectives, especially within the context of the aftermath of the recent financial crisis in the European Union and Lithuania, are the expansion of popular interest and engagement in scientific and technological developments, closer cooperation between science and business and augmentation of prestige of scientific and research based professions. Scientific communication is a very important tool, one that allows to achieve the aforementioned objectives. This is illustrated by the fact that countries leading in innovation have clear official policies of scientific communication and the society is heavily involved in shaping them. Conversely, countries that lag in innovative activity do not generally have an official policy of scientific communication. Scientific communication, as a phenomenon and a tool, is being researched and discussed within the academic and political discourse, but there is a certain subjectivity in Lithuanian scientific communication policy. The target audience of youth is one of the most important audiences and actions aimed at increasing its interest in scientific endeavours and scientific and research based professions would result in the increase in the number of scientists and researchers, which is one of the most important strategic aims of the European Union. The aim of this study – to analyse the demand and possibilities of scientific communication in professional schools.

Trilhas de comunicação científica : links de postagens de pesquisadores brasileiros nos blogs de ciência / Trails of scientific communication: links of posts of Brazilian researchers in science blogs

Sousa, Rodrigo Silva Caxias de January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this study is to interpret the use of links on the blog postings by Brazilian researchers. The investigation begins by examining the links of blogs included in the Anel de Blogs Científicos (Ring of Science Blogs). Its effectiveness is based on the combination of clusters of link networks coming from the blogrolls restricted to the Anel de Blogs Científicos. Afterwards the 640 links included in the content of the posts were classified according to categories of functions and motivations obtained from previous studies and from categories that emerged from the phenomenon studied. Finally, understanding of motivations for the insertion of links on the composition of the blog posts and the functions that such links fulfill were inferred by Content Analysis of the contexts to which the links were inserted, considering the locations to which the reader is referred from its activation. Results indicate that the concept of personal journals, in which the messages have a limited number of characters and are presented in reverse chronological order, is only confirmed through this latter feature, as a result of the software used for composing the posts. The low incidence of links in relation to blogs of researchers allows us to state that there is low connectivity by blogs composed by different authors who form the sample relative to the Anel and the areas which they belong to, reinforced by the low availability of links between posts and comments. What reinforces this point is the absence of trackbak links among comments of the selected posts. The first hypothesis guiding the study was refuted, in that the posts do not indicate rearticulations through its links of dialogues among researchers, lay people and science journalists, not allowing rearrangements and higher amplitude of these dialogues with society. The second hypothesis was confirmed by relying on the fact that the links give evidence that the documents and related sources of information from those devices (links) are a hybrid of using and sharing of information – this information being limited to the sources and scientific documents as much as to sources and documents that are not traditionally characterized as part of the cycle of scientific production. The third hypothesis that guides this study was refuted because the data analyzed indicate that the use of links by Brazilian researchers is not based on functions and motivations that aim at streamlining production processes and communication of research results through blogs.

Baptista, Vanise January 2015 (has links)
This case study aims to analyze the Program "Science in Society Science in School" trajectory along the period 2009-2013. This Program was born from the incentive given by Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) in the Department of Popularization and Dissemination of Science (DDP) – 2004-2007 Action Plan, which presented action guidelines towards popularization of science in Brazil, demonstrating intention of aggregating this theme to the governmental policy. Under the perspective of participating in scientific divulgation aligned with needs identified by MCTI and by several researchers, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), via Pro-Rectory of Research, has created the program "Science in Society Science in School ", which is the object of this work. It is presented under a quantitative approach, in document analysis of data records related to the Program, and qualitative approach from content analysis of interviews carried out with five faculty advisors of projects linked to the Program. Results have demonstrated that this Program has consolidated maintaining continuous growth, but with some imbalance between areas and approaches. It was also noticed that professors are interested in bringing scientific knowledge to society, interacting with quality and consistency despite some resistance among their peers. The University, by its initiative generated 212 actions for dissemination of science between 2009 and 2013 which link research, education and extension in a “spiral sight” into science communication, where topics relevant to society, which are widely studied in the university, could be brought out to spaces beyond the walls, in a continuous exercise between universities, science and society.
