The impact of data source on the ranking of computer scientists based on citation indicators: a comparison of web of science and Scopus

Zhang, Li January 2014 (has links)
Conference proceedings represent a large part of the literature in computer science. Two Conference Proceedings Citation Index databases were merged with Web of Science in 2008, but very few studies have been conducted to evaluate the effect of that merger of databases on citation indicators in computer science in comparison to other databases. This study explores whether or not the addition of the Conference Proceedings Citation Indexes to Web of Science has changed the citation analysis results when compared to Scopus. It compares the citation data of 25 randomly selected computer science faculty in Canadian universities in Web of Science (with Conference Proceedings Citation Indexes) and Scopus. The results show that Scopus retrieved considerably more publications including conference proceedings and journal articles. Scopus also generated higher citation counts and h-index than Web of Science in this field, though relative citation rankings from the two databases were similar. It is suggested that either database could be used if a relative ranking is sought. If the purpose is to find a more complete or higher value of citation counting or h-index, Scopus is preferable. It should be noted that no matter which source is used, citation analysis as a tool for research performance assessment must be constructed and applied with caution because of its technological and methodological limitations

Impacto de las revistas de salud colombianas: comparación de Publindex versus Google Scholar Metrics, SciELO y SCOPUS / Impact of Colombian health journals: comparing Publindex versus Google Scholar Metrics, SciELO and SCOPUS

Rodríguez Morales, Alfonso J., Ochoa Orozco, Sergio Andrés, Mayta-Tristan, Percy 30 April 2014 (has links)
The citation based indicators are recognized by the scientific community to assess the quality of scientific journals. Colombia has a rating system called the National Journal magazines Index (IBN) / Publindex. The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of the Colombian health journals according to Google ScholarMetrics (GSM), SciELO, and SCOPUS, compared with the IBN classification for 2007-2011. In analyzing journals by GSM H index, we find that among the worst journals classified "C" by Publindex, there are publications with higher H5 index and H5 median than those top-ranked journals by IBN as "B" and "A2". There are journals such as The Colombian Anesthesiology that without being in IBN, has SciELO higher impact factor than several IBN "A1" journals. There are indexed journals in Scopus which despite being quartile 3 (Q3) are rated "A2" by IBN but they are Q4 journals classified as "A1" by IBN. This shows that Publindex classification is not consistent with journal impact indicators in three systems: GSM, Scopus, and SciELO, as it has been previously suggested by other authors. It is required to improve the Publindex classification and such classification should take into account citation and impact parameters so that the quality reflected in international indicators would be consistent with the national classification. / Revisión por pares

Tecnologias emergentes na indústria 4.0 : uma análise bibliométrica /

Lima, Faíque Ribeiro January 2020 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The general objective of this work is to evaluate the resources of international scientific production in technologies related to industry 4.0. Furthermore, the objectives are: to characterize a theory of innovation, used as the theoretical basis of the present work and to carry out a brief demonstration of industrial revolutions; to characterize a methodology used for the elaboration of the dissertation, addressing a bibliometric analysis and aspects of the Scopus database; present the concepts, resources and technologies of industry 4.0; characterize and analyze the bibliometric data obtained at Scopus. The work is justified due to the importance of the use of cutting-edge technologies and processes by nations and companies in international competitiveness. The methodology used was the descriptive analysis of the frequency of the terms selected in titles, abstracts and keywords of the scientific publications attached to the Scopus database. Considering the relationship between basic science and innovations, the type of analysis is justified because the technologies used are still under development. Thus, through scientific publications, characteristics of current scientific efforts that tend to facilitate the generation of future innovations can be traced. The problem that the dissertation proposed to discuss is: what is industry 4.0 and what are the characteristics of world scientific production in the area? The hypothesis adopted was that, as industry 4.0 is still an ongo... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre

Convergent validity of bibliometric Google Scholar data in the field of chemistry: Citation counts for papers that were accepted by Angewandte Chemie International Edition or rejected but published elsewhere, using Google Scholar, Science Citation Index, Scopus, and Chemical Abstracts

Bornmann, Lutz, Marx, Werner, Schier, Hermann, Rahm, Erhard, Thor, Andreas, Daniel, Hans-Dieter 05 December 2018 (has links)
Examining a comprehensive set of papers (n = 1837) that were accepted for publication by the journal Angewandte Chemie International Edition (one of the prime chemistry journals in the world) or rejected by the journal but then published elsewhere, this study tested the extent to which the use of the freely available database Google Scholar (GS) can be expected to yield valid citation counts in the field of chemistry. Analyses of citations for the set of papers returned by three fee-based databases – Science Citation Index, Scopus, and Chemical Abstracts – were compared to the analysis of citations found using GS data. Whereas the analyses using citations returned by the three fee-based databases show very similar results, the results of the analysis using GS citation data differed greatly from the findings using citations from the fee-based databases. Our study therefore supports, on the one hand, the convergent validity of citation analyses based on data from the fee-based databases and, on the other hand, the lack of convergent validity of the citation analysis based on the GS data.

Intelligent Systems Research in the Construction Industry

Irani, Zahir, Kamal, M.M. 19 July 2013 (has links)
Yes / With the increasing complexity of problems in the construction industry, researchers are investigating computationally rigorous intelligent systems with the aim of seeking intelligent solutions. The purpose of this paper is therefore to analyse the research published on ‘intelligent systems in the construction industry’ over the past two decades. This is achieved to observe and understand the historical trends and current patterns in the use of different types of intelligent systems and to exhibit potential directions of further research. Thus, to trace the applications of intelligent systems to research in the construction industry, a profiling approach is employed to analyse 514 publications extracted from the Scopus database. The prime value and uniqueness of this paper lies in analysing and compiling the existing published material by examining variables (such as yearly publications, geographic location of each publication, etc.). This has been achieved by synthesising existing publications using 14 keywords2 ‘Intelligent Systems’, ‘Artificial Intelligence’, ‘Expert Systems’, ‘Fuzzy Systems’, ‘Genetic Algorithms’, ‘Knowledge-Based Systems’, ‘Neural Networks’, ‘Context Aware Applications’, ‘Embedded Systems’, ‘Human–Machine Interface’, ‘Sensing and Multiple Sensor Fusion’, ‘Ubiquitous and Physical Computing’, ‘Case-based Reasoning’ and ‘Construction Industry’. The prime contributions of this research are identified by associating (a) yearly publication and geographic location, (b) yearly publication and the type of intelligent systems employed/discussed, (c) geographic location and the type of research methods employed, and (d) geographic location and the types of intelligent systems employed. These contributions provide a comparison between the two decades and offer insights into the trends in using different intelligent systems types in the construction industry. The analysis presented in this paper has identified intelligent systems studies that have contributed to the development and accumulation of intellectual wealth to the intelligent systems area in the construction industry. This research has implications for researchers, journal editors, practitioners, universities and research institutions. Moreover, it is likely to form the basis and motivation for profiling other database resources and specific types of intelligent systems journals in this area.

Využití bibliometrických metod na příkladě analýzy časopisu Československá psychologie / Using bibliometric methods for the analysis of Czechoslovak Psychology journal

Matička, Petr January 2018 (has links)
This thesis describes bibliometric indicators and bibliometric methods and presents their potential practical application on the analysis of the Czech scientific journal Czechoslovak Psychology. The introduction provides a historical development of bibliometry, a scientific classification of bibliometry and presents some of the main thinkers in the field. The thesis then continues with the exploration of bibliographic methods and laws and sets them into wider context with the issue of current evaluation of scientific journals and the issue of the scientific work itself. The research deals with the scientific journal Czechoslovak Psychology and the subject of psychology is briefly presented to the reader. The practical part of the research focuses on the use of bibliometric methods in the qualitative analysis of data from Web of Science and Scopus citation databases, these registers are compared with each other. The conclusion presents the results from this bibliometric analysis and suggests recommendations for further bibliometric research.

Transformativt Ledarskap - en bibliometrisk kartläggning

Göransson, Kim, Collin, Claudia January 2014 (has links)

Citation index databases have been explored and made impact on academic research for several decades. The Web of Science (WOS) of Thomson Reuters ISI is one of the most well-known citation databases in the world, and the Scopus of Elsevier is also a famous citation databases. In addition, the Mainland China has also developed Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI) database and Chinese Citation Database (CCD) since recent twenty years. Under the sponsorship of the National Science Council in Taiwan, the Taiwan Social Science Research Center established the Taiwan Social Sciences Citation Index (TSSCI) database in 1996 and the Center for Humanities Research built up Taiwan Humanities Citation Index (THCI) database in 1999. On the other hand, Airiti Incorporation has developed Academic Citation Index (ACI). However, the application of TSSCI, THCI and ACI reveals many design flaws and use limitations for both databases, some search functions are different and not available, and it is therefore difficult for users to get information through the same search interface. It is truly important to construct an integrate citation index database for Taiwan humanity and social science researchers. Working with an information service company, the purpose of the present study is to propose a design plan to establish a Taiwan humanity and social science citation database. The following issues will be investigated in this study: 1. Collecting source literature and citation literature from humanity and social science journals publishing by Taiwan academic institutes. 2. Designing the structure of citation index system, types and contents of the database. 3. Setting up the standards for description on database fields. 4. Developing the basic, advanced and other information retrieval functions. 5. Seeking for the integration with WoS to fulfill the goal of information resources sharing and the promotion of global visualization. 6. Building the quantitative indicator for evaluating the humanity and social science research.
