The dialogicality of Dasein : conversation and encounter within Heidegger's Being and time

The project is to unfold the dialogical aspects of human subjectivity as expressed through the existential phenomenology of Heidegger's Being and Time. The investigation is divided into three parts. / Part I offers an interpretation of Heidegger's concept of subjectivity with emphasis on the movement from inauthenticity to authenticity. In order to mediate the more traditionally existentialist reading of Dasein's authenticity, I situate Being and Time within Heidegger's larger phenomenological project. This opens up the possibility of thinking about Being-in-the-world and Being-towards-death in terms of a lived intentionality in which Dasein has its own Being as its object. Although Dasein in its everydayness generally only comports toward its own Being in the manner characteristic of empty intentionality, this intention can be fulfilled. This fulfillment constitutes Dasein's authenticity. / Part II poses the question: What is dialogue? I illustrate that there are two figures of dialogue---conversation and encounter. Conversation is an exchange between participants which maintains a particular flow and thematic unity, and is based on the structure of question and response. Its possibility rests in the otherness of the participants with respect to one another and in their ability to mediate this difference through some shared basis of meaning. Encounter, on the other hand, is an event of meeting between participants in which the alterity of the other is thrown into high relief by the challenge which it poses to the self, thereby throwing into question both the self and the meaning in which it dwells. Nevertheless, both conversation and encounter can be shown to be dialogical relative to a constellation of concepts. Dialogue is an engagement with alterity marked by a simultaneous continuity and discontinuity with the other. This engagement bears a relation to meaning and is the ground of responsibility and questionability . / In Part III, this notion of dialogue is used to interpret Dasein's subjectivity and its becoming authentic. I argue that Dasein's everydayness can be understood as a conversationality in the third person which is transformed into the first-person conversationality of authentic historizing through an encounter with radical alterity in anxious Being-towards-death.

Para isto, percorre-se o desenvolvimento da questão temporal presente na obra de Heidegger em seu período de juventude, em particular as preleções Einleitung in die Phänomenologie der Religion (EPR) e Augustinus und der Neuplatonismus (AN), buscando elementos para analisar a concepção do tempo presente em Sein und Zeit (SZ). No primeiro curso analisado (EPR), Heidegger descobre, pelo estudo da vida dos cristãos descrita nas epístolas paulinas, um modo de como o presente, o passado e o futuro são vividos na experiência fática da vida através de uma decisão carregada de angústia. Em AN, é também revelada uma compreensão do tempo kairológico de Agostinho expressa no décimo livro de Confessiones, embora obscurecida pela adoção de uma concepção neoplatônica. Neste curso, o homem, que tem a particularidade de poder se colocar em questão, necessita viver em uma angustiante e ininterrupta tentação para alcançar a vera vita beata, i. é, Deus, em que é possível perder-se ou salvar-se a cada instante. Seguindo por esta via em SZ, Heidegger busca o fenômeno original da temporalidade para, a partir dele, esclarecer a necessidade e a origem da compreensão vulgar do tempo, em que o Dasein cotidiano conta o seu tempo, nivelando a temporalidade. O tempo autenticamente revela-se, assim, sempre remetido ao futuro como o desdobramento do próprio ser do Dasein em direção a sua possibilidade extrema e indeterminada de sua impossibilidade. / This work demonstrates how Heidegger reveals a new and more original conception of temporality from the studies of Paul’s Letters and Agostine’s confessions in spite of the common time understanding – which is derived from the Greek thought tradition. For that, the temporal question development present in early Heidegger’s work is adressed, in particular in the studies Einleitung in die Phänomenologie der Religion (EPR) and Augustinus und der Neuplatonismus (AN), to search for elements to analyze the concept of time present in Sein und Zeit. In the first analised curse (EPR), Heidegger discovers from the Christians lives discribed in Pauline’s Letters a way by which present, past and future are lived in fatical live experience through one decision filled with anguish. In AN, a understanding of Agostine’s kairological time – expressed in the tenth book of Confessiones – is also revealed, though this is darkened by the adoption of a Neoplatonic conception. In this course, the man – who has the particular power of put himself in question – needs to live in one anguisshand continuous temptation to reach the vera vita beata, i. e., God, where it is possible to be lost or be saved in each moment. Through this way in SZ, Heidegger searches the original phenomenon of temporality so that, from this, he could explain the need and the type of origin of common understanding of time, where the daily Dasein counts its time, levels the temporality. So, time is authentically revealed aways sent to the future the unfolding of Dasein’s Being itself towards his extreme and indetermined possibility of his impossibility.

Assim, nosso intento é perceber as razões metodológicas e filosóficas do problema do "é" em Heidegger situado em Ser e Tempo a partir na noção de que as línguas ocidentais são em geral, línguas do pensamento metafísico, e a forma com que este pensamento metafísico exposto por Heidegger se apresenta na relação entre a pergunta pelo ser e o "é". O tema de nossa investigação parte de um ponto imediatamente inserido no cerne do pensamento de Heidegger: O problema do “é“; problema que se estabelece no sentido de perceber o Horizonte que essa pequena palavra representa na ontologia fundamental e em escritos que traçam a elaboração da atmosfera de investigação que Heidegger permite a esta questão. O própósito que se pretende por em discussão realiza a sua intervenção a partir da tarefa hedeggeriana de recuperar as experiências de esquecimento presentes na metafísica, e particularmente, a significação metafísica do "é", ou seja, o ponto investigativo que estabelece a necessidade de elucidação do "é" no interior da experiência heideggeriana de desocultamento do universo metafísico. / This study intends to give continuity to the same subject addressed in a monograph of conclusion of graduation course in philosophy. Thus, our intent is to perceive the methodological and philosophical reasons for Heidegger's "is" problem in Being and Time from the notion that Western languages ​​are in general languages ​​of metaphysical thought and how this metaphysical thinking Presented by Heidegger is presented in the relationship between the question of being and the 'is'. Martin Heidegger's interpretation of ancient Greek aletheia and the philological response to it

This thesis tries to provide a critical review of Heidegger's interpretation of ancient Greek truth in the different stages of his career and it also examines the philological response that his work on this question elicited. The publication of Sein und Zeit made Heidegger's views on a ,l h&d12;q3ia available to a wide public and thereby launched a heated debate on the meaning of this word. The introduction tries to give an account of the general intellectual background to Heidegger's interpretation of ancient Greek truth. It also looks at the kind of interpretative approach favored by the philologists responding to Heidegger's views on a ,l h&d12;q3ia . The thesis first examines his arguments on ancient Greek truth and language in Sein und Zeit from the point of view of the larger philosophical project of Heidegger's seminal work. It then looks at some initial philological responses to Heidegger along with Heidegger's views on a ,l h&d12;q3ia in a few works following the publication of Sein und Zeit . As a next step, the bulk of the philological work responding to Heidegger is carefully examined with a special focus on the interpretative approaches of the various authors. Heidegger's attempt to respond to some of these philologists is also reviewed. Finally, Heidegger's retraction of his earlier views on a ,l h&d12;q3ia is examined in light of a growing critical consensus among philologists. The very latest philological responses to Heidegger are also considered. The conclusion looks at the contributions made by Heidegger and his philological respondents to our knowledge of ancient Greek truth. Some suggestions are also made for future research on this topic.
