An Indexation and Discovery Architecture for Semantic Web Services and its Application in Bioinformatics

Yu, Liyang 09 June 2006 (has links)
Recently much research effort has been devoted to the discovery of relevant Web services. It is widely recognized that adding semantics to service description is the solution to this challenge. Web services with explicit semantic annotation are called Semantic Web Services (SWS). This research proposes an indexation and discovery architecture for SWS, together with a prototype application in the area of bioinformatics. In this approach, a SWS repository is created and maintained by crawling both ontology-oriented UDDI registries and Web sites that hosting SWS. For a given service request, the proposed system invokes the matching algorithm and a candidate set is returned with different degree of matching considered. This approach can add more flexibility to the current industry standards by offering more choices to both the service requesters and publishers. Also, the prototype developed in this research shows the value can be added by using SWS in application areas such as bioinformatics.

Web Service Testing For Domain Specific Web Service Discovery Framework

Utku, Selma 01 February 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The reliability of web services is important for both users and other service providers, with which they are in interaction. Thus, to guarantee reliability of the web services that are invoked and integrated at runtime, automatic testing of web services is needed. In web service testing, different test cases for web services are generated. The most important issue is to generate the most appropriate value for input parameters of web services at runtime. In this thesis, we developed a method for automatic web service testing that uses semantics dependency-based and data mutation-based techniques to analyze web services and generate different test cases. Thus, we both check whether the services function correctly by generating appropriate input values from different data sources and check robustness of web services by generating random and error-prone data inputs. With respect to the behaviors of web services, the test values are calculated and saved to the database for each web service.

Service composition in converged service environment

HUANG, Cuiting 02 May 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The goal of this thesis is to provide enhanced mechanisms to deploy competitive services in a rapid and cost-effective manner. To achieve this goal, we first propose an automatic service composition model relying on an IMS/Web converged environment. This service composition model is intended to be one in which even non-professional users can easily reuse existing services to create new services. To further improve the automatic service composition feature, three strategies including passive update, active update and hybrid update are proposed and analyzed. We then propose a centralized service exposure framework for a variey of services, including Telecom / Web / Device / user-generated services. This framework aims at enhancing the user-centric and convergence features, and providing the unified access to diverse services.Subsequently, two P2P based service information sharing models are designed to complement the centralized service exposure model : i) A hierarchical P2P based model, which reuses Chord for guaranteeing the service discovery efficiency, meanwhile adopts the concept of abstract service publication and discovery for enabling the ambiguous services searching. ii) A triplex P2P overlay based model, which mainly targets the devices offered services. In this model, we use the gateways to delegate the devices residing in them for the global service exposure, and use a triplex overlay based architecture, which includes an underlying unstructured P2P layer, a Semantic Overlay Network (SON) based overlay and a service dependency overlay, for the service information sharing and discovery

Um Middleware adaptável para descoberta, composição e invocação automática de serviços web semânticos / An adaptable Middleware for automatic Discovery, composition and invocation of semantic web services

Barros, Heitor José dos Santos 25 March 2011 (has links)
Semantic Web Services domain has gained special attention in academia and industry. It has been adopted as a promise to enable automation of all aspects of Web services provision and use, such as service creation, selection, discovery, composition, invocation. For that, the Semantic Web Services community has been devoted to creating tools and techniques that explore the semantic information of these services. However, the state of the art shows that the aplications based on Semantic Services have their own characteristics, interests and priorities. This diversity directly influences the choice of techniques and technologies for handling services, ie, a single tool can have satisfactory results in a particular application and is not appropriate for others. Moreover, these applications can evolve, which implies the need of changing these tools. Aiming to solve this problem, this work proposes an adaptive middleware for managing discovery and invocation of services capable of integrating different tools and techniques according to application needs. In order to validate the work, a case study with Semantic Web Services of education domain is presented, with this, it was noted that the proposed Middleware is efficient for performing the processes of discovery, composition and invocation of services in an adaptable manner.

The envisioned communications would occur in a P2P fashion, as each device could simultaneously provide and consume services. A mechanism for dynamically discovering nearby devices and the available services would be necessary. Although a few existing applications already provide the direct interaction among devices they are purpose-specific and rely on pre-configured information for identifying other devices. A service-oriented architecture (SOA), based on HTTP requests and the REST or SOAP protocols, is commonly used in this type of communication. However, automatically finding available known services is still challenging. Service discovery is usually based exclusively on service name, which is not very flexible. This work proposes a new model for the direct interaction between computing devices. In an attempt to facilitate service discovery and selection we propose a content centric model in which interactions are defined according to an object’s type and the action to be applied to it. The proposed approach can workatop of existing discovery protocols, based on extensible metadata fields and on existing service data. Our proposal is evaluated according to i) the viability of direct communication between nearby devices, even when carried by users or associated to vehicles; ii) the proposed service discovery and matching using the content centric approach; iii) the effectiveness of a middleware to support the development of generic applications for direct device communication. Simulation results show our proposed model is viable. A preliminary implementation of the middleware was also evaluated and the results show that spontaneous, opportunistic, service-based interactions among devices can be achieved for different types of services.

Device and Service Discovery in Bluetooth Networks

Persson, Albin, Karlsson, Jimi January 2002 (has links)
In view of Bluetooth?s growing popularity a lot of research is being done to improve the performance of Bluetooth. Most of the research being performed prerequisites that a connection has already been made. Due to the frequency hopping spread spectrum used by Bluetooth the connection establishment is not as easy as it seams. Two processes have been derived to bridge the frequency discrepancies between devices, inquiry and page. In this thesis, we study the inquiry and page processes and the time it takes to complete a connection with no, one or two voice channels present at the initiating device. We have found the times to complete the processes to be lengthy at best, unreasonably long if there is voice traffic present. Through optimisation, we have decreased the mean time to connect. We propose some changes to the default values of a few time outs and variables, which yields a substantial improvement in performance, especially in the case when there is voice traffic present. The changes are in the software only, no changes in hardware are necessary. After a connection is made a client may want to start using the services of the device it is connected to. This is another topic of this thesis. Bluetooth does not provide means of accessing a service, only discovering it. Thus, there is the need for higher-level protocols for accessing services. We have investigated some of the service discovery protocols currently available.

[en] CONTINUOUS SERVICE DISCOVERY IN IOT / [pt] DESCOBERTA CONTÍNUA DE SERVIÇOS EM IOT

FELIPE OLIVEIRA CARVALHO 28 July 2017 (has links)
[en] The popularization of the Internet of Things sparked a growing opportunity for the creation of applications in various areas, by combining the use of sensors and/or actuators. A crucial factor for the construction of large-scale applications is to allow the use of IoT devices in a transparent manner, in a service-oriented paradigm, where details of communication and configuration are handled by the gateways. In service model, applications must discover the high-level interfaces of the devices and do not have to deal with underlying details that are handled by gateways. In scenarios of high dynamism and mobility (with connections and disconnections of devices occuring all the time), this discovery and configuration must occur continuously. Traditional service discovery protocols, such as Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) or Service Location Protocol (SLP), have not been developed taking into consideration the high dinamicity of IoT environments. Aggregated Search of Data and Services / Recherche agrégée de données et services

Mouhoub, Mohamed Lamine 11 December 2017 (has links)
The last years witnessed the success of the Linked Open Data (LOD) project as well as a significantly growing amount of semantic data sources available on the web. However, there are still a lot of data not being published as fully materialized knowledge bases like as sensor data, dynamic data, data with limited access patterns, etc. Such data is in general available through web APIs or web services. Integrating such data to the LOD or in mashups would have a significant added value. However, discovering such services requires a lot of efforts from developers and a good knowledge of the existing service repositories that the current service discovery systems do not efficiently overcome. In this thesis, we propose novel approaches and frameworks to search for semantic web services from a data integration perspective. Firstly, we introduce LIDSEARCH, a SPARQL-driven framework to search for linked data and semantic web services. Moreover, we propose an approach to enrich semantic service descriptions with Input-Output relations from ontologies to facilitate the automation of service discovery and composition. To achieve such a purpose, we apply natural language processing techniques and deep-learning-based text similarity techniques to leverage I/O relations from text to ontologies. We validate our work with proof-of-concept frameworks and use OWLS-TC as a dataset for conducting our experiments on service search and enrichment.

Secure and Privacy-Preserving Decentralized Wi-Fi Aware Service Discovery Architecture / En Wi-Fi Aware -Decentraliserad säker serviceupptäcktsarkitektur i mobilt ad-hoc-nätverk

Wang, Jiahao January 2022 (has links)
In modern Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs), service discovery is a major component for mobile devices to exchange data and find available services. However, service discovery architectures developed and adopted by the industry either are not appropriate for MANETs or cannot provide security and privacy protection to clients. Service discovery architectures could be either directory-based or directory-less. Both of the two types of architectures suffer from certain security or privacy issues: The directory-based architecture requires a directory server to facilitate communication between service providers and users, which makes the directory server a single point of failure and may harm users’ privacy if the directory server is honestbut- curious; the directory-less architecture solves these two problems but without a trusted directory, the Denial of Service (DoS) attacks can be easily performed on all entities in the system since the mutual authentication between entities consumes significant computational resource. Wi-Fi Aware, a recently introduced Wi-Fi-based connectivity, allows MANETs nodes to discover and connect directly to each other without any infrastructure. Moreover, the size of the message transmitted in this process is large enough (around 255 bytes) for security and privacy protection. So in this thesis, we implemented a Wi-Fi Aware-based decentralized secure service discovery system that allows the clients to directly discover nearby service providers and provide mutual authentication between them without a directory server. In our system we leverage several schemes, including bloom filter, Timed Efficient Stream Loss- Tolerant Authentication (TESLA), and client puzzle. A set of experiments are carried out for the evaluation of the implemented system. The evaluation results show that our system meets most of the security requirements of service discovery architectures with acceptable processing delays.

Design and Evaluation of Service Selection in Mobile Edge Cloud / Design och utvärdering av tjänsteval i mobilt kantmoln

Wu, Erfan January 2021 (has links)
With the development of 5G technology and edge computing, more and more network application services have been migrated to the cloud network in order to improve the performance, availability and ensure Quality of Service. Edge computing has essentially changed the service deployment model and reduce the latency further for better customer experience, which is realized by deploying network service replicas in geographically distributed edge sites. However, how to discover edge application servers and select a proper instance to serve the edge users becomes an important research topic. This master thesis project addresses the problem by leveraging DNS based service selection mechanism, designing and implementing stable match based service selection algorithms with the aim of minimizing latency between edge users and services and balance the load among edge sites, and integrating the solutions by RESTful APIs. To evaluate the performance of the service selection algorithms, a set of experiments are carried on different simulated topologies with different traffic pattern. The experimental results show that the stable match algorithm and its variants can significantly reduce the average latency by up to 50% compared to traditional approaches, while the enhanced stable match based algorithms are able to have the same load balancing effect with the widely used Round Robin algorithm.
