Esta dissertação dedica-se à análise das séries televisivas brasileiras Cidade dos Homens (2002-2005) e Antonia (2006-2007), tomadas aqui como obras privilegiadas para se debater o lugar simbólico que a periferia adquire no universo audiovisual e na dinâmica social atual. Interessa particularmente compreender como tais programas se colocam perante as assimetrias de poder, a dominação e a desigualdade social, abordando as implicações éticas, estéticas e políticas da representação. Destaca-se padrões e divergências entre os projetos, localizando-os num repertório cinematográfico e televisivo e interpretando-os dentro do campo de tensões sociais contemporâneas. / The following dissertation analyses the Brazilian television shows Cidade dos Homens (2002-2005) and Antonia (2006-2007). Such productions are in a privileged position to discuss the simbolic place that poverty in urban outskirts develops in the audiovisual environment and nowadays social dynamics. This study is particularly interested in understanding how these programmes portrait power asymmetries, social domination and inequity, at the same time they confront ethical, esthetic and political implications of such representation. I highlight patterns and differences, as I look upon them in the light of a broader movie and television production spectrum, interpreting each object minding the paradigms of contemporary social tension.

Diante da supremacia das imagens idealizadas, a sociedade classifica as pessoas de acordo com sua forma física, estigmatizando e excluindo aqueles que não se inserem no modelo hegemônico de beleza. Para inserir o sujeito nos valores hegemônicos, a indústria da beleza e a mídia oferecem uma diversidade de mecanismos, sendo um deles o quadro Arruma meu marido, do programa Hora do Faro, apresentado por Rodrigo Faro, na Rede Record, que tem como pressuposto a “transformação” do participante. Para transformar uma pessoa “feia” e “infeliz” em uma pessoa “bonita” e “realizada”, o quadro conta com uma equipe multiprofissional do ramo da beleza, habilitada para fazer tratamentos nos dentes, no cabelo, na pele, além de mudanças no vestir e no comportamento. Dessa forma, a pesquisa, de natureza qualitativa e descritiva, teve como objetivo analisar os enunciados produzidos pelo quadro da mídia televisiva Arruma meu marido, atendo-se aos discursos que recaem sobre o corpo e a aparência do participante, promovendo sua exclusão e inclusão social, buscando responder as seguintes questões: Quais discursos recaem sobre os participantes do quadro antes e após a transformação? Como se dá a participação da família no processo de mudança da corporalidade dos participantes? A coleta e análise de dados se deu pelo método documental, cujos arquivos foram compostos por três vídeos relativos às edições do programa, buscando-se descobrir, interpretar e compreender os sentidos e significados presentes nas imagens e discursos que recaem sobre os sujeitos os seus corpos. Os resultados revelam que a aparência torna-se um valor imprescindível para o reconhecimento do indivíduo dentro de um contexto social e familiar, sendo que alguns signos corpóreos (flacidez, sedentarismo, gordura, falta dos dentes, cabelos grandes e “mal cuidados”, dentre outros) simbolizam uma indisciplina ou um descaso com o corpo, sendo os indivíduos apontados pelo “fracasso” de sua própria corporalidade. Por outro lado, o programa cumpre a missão de arrumar o participante, promovendo sua inclusão familiar e social. / Corporal idealization in contemporary society, subsidized by the media sector and the trade in corolla, promotes significant changes in the (re) construction of bodies, significantly affecting the dynamics of social interaction of the subjects. How does the family participate in the process of changing the participants' physicality? The data collection and analysis was done by the documentary method, whose files were composed of three videos related to the editions of the program, seeking to discover, interpret and understand the meanings and meanings present in the images and discourses that fall on the subjects and their bodies . The results reveal that the appearance becomes an indispensable value for the recognition of the individual within a social and familiar context, with some corporeal signs (sagging, sedentary lifestyle, fatness, lack of teeth, large hair and "poor care", among others) symbolize an indiscipline or a disregard for the body, and individuals are pointed out by the failure" of their own corporeality. On the other hand, the program fulfills the mission of arranging the participant, promoting their family and social inclusion.

Au cours des dernières années, de nouveaux challenges ont émergé avec la transformation très significative du paysage audiovisuel due à l'émergence de la télévision sur Internet. La décision de ce qui est regardé et dans quel ordre n'appartient en effet plus à la chaîne TV concernée mais à l'utilisateur. De nouveaux moyens facilitant l'accès précis et rapide à l'information souhaitée au sein des quantités toujours croissantes de contenus audiovisuels doivent donc être proposés aux utilisateurs : par exemple, pour repérer un événement spécifique, un fragment d'émission contenant une certaine personnalité ou abordant un sujet particulier, voire pour naviguer successivement entre tous les segments de vidéos abordant ce sujet. Ces fonctionnalités nouvelles et variées impliquent le développement de méthodes novatrices de structuration et d'exploitation des contenus audiovisuels, sujet abordé dans cette thèse. Nous proposons d'une part des techniques automatiques de structuration thématique des données audiovisuelles permettant de révéler l'organisation interne de chaque programme. Nous étudions également les implications de la structure produite sur diverses tâches telles que la création d'hyperliens entre vidéos (afin de permettre une navigation entre fragments d'émissions thématiquement proches) ou la création de résumés automatiques. L'ensemble des travaux menés est effectué sur les transcriptions automatiques de la parole prononcée dans les émissions, afin d'obtenir des solutions génériques, non dédiées à un type de programme particulier. / New challenges emerged in the past years as the audiovisual landscape significantly transformed with the emergence of Internet-based TV. The decision of what to watch and in what order no longer belongs to the TV station but the user. New solutions must be offered to users in order to facilitate precise and quick access to the desired information contained in the ever increasing amounts of audiovisual content: for example, to identify a specific event, a TV show fragment containing a certain public person or addressing a particular topic, or to browse sequentially across all segments of videos addressing this topic. These new and varied features imply the development of innovative methods for structuring and exploiting the audiovisual content, which represent the focus of this thesis. We offer automatic topic structuring techniques of audiovisual data to reveal the internal organization of each program. We also study the implications of the structure produced on various tasks such as creating hyperlinks between videos (to allow navigation between TV show fragments that are thematically related) or creating automatic summaries. All the work is carried out on automatic transcripts of the speech pronounced in TV shows, to achieve generic solutions, not dedicated to a particular kind of show.

Sustainability in Cooking Shows: A qualitative content analysis on framing of sustainability in the cooking show MasterChef Germany and MasterChef US

Many environmental organisations are trying to counter the negative effects of climate change. The film- and television industry are increasingly becoming the focus of attention, because, although it repeatedly advocates sustainability, it often gets lost in its own productions. The presentation of sustainability is often not visible or clearly recognizable by the viewer. Cooking shows are often criticised by the public for being environmentally friendly in terms of food waste.The goal of this research is to determine how sustainability is presented in cooking shows in Germany and the USA. For this purpose, the following research question is asked: How is sustainability framed in the television cooking series MasterChef US and Germany? And is there a difference between those two countries?The theoretical framework is presented by the framing theory of Erving Goffmann (1974), with the use of this approach sustainability was framed in TV shows and used for the analysis and its results. To answer the research question, a qualitative content analysis was carried out, which analyses both the German and the American version of MasterChef in 2018/2019. The research was divided into indirect and direct events. The results of the study show that the German MasterChef included significantly more sustainable topics than the American one. This confirms that there is a significant difference in the cooking shows between the two countries.

El presente trabajo de investigación se realiza el desarrollo de negocio que busca ofrecer una alternativa de diversión a un nicho de mercado en Lima Metropolitana, específicamente, en Lima Moderna que comprende distritos como Barranco, La Molina, Miraflores, San Borja, San Isidro, Surco, Surquillo entre otros; a personas entre 21 y 40 años, propuesta enmarcada dentro de las ferias o festivales que vienen desarrollándose en los parques y al aire libre durante los fines de semana, como son los food trucks donde se expende comidas, y además ofrece algunas alternativas de recreación pero orientado a los niños. Esta propuesta consiste en una plataforma de baile y canto (karaoke) dentro de estas ferias al aire libre, proyectados en una pantalla ecran y usando equipos de última generación, presentando diversas canciones de moda y clásicas, así como diferentes formatos de baile; todo ello permitirá a todos los asistentes, disfrutar un momento sano de diversión. Implementation of Evidenced-Based Practices to Improve Follow-up Care Following Inpatient Mental Health Hospitalizations. Jacqlyne W Bowman, Dr. Judy Rice, Dr. Beth Schreiner, Dr. Ernie Maupin, College of Nursing, East Tennessee State University Persons hospitalized for mental health conditions are frequently lost to follow up after discharge. The aim of this quality improvement project is to increase the rate of attendance at follow up appointments after hospital discharge back to the community. The focus of this project is the development and implementation of a discharge questionnaire for both clients and case management to better understand the needs of the clients during the discharge process. Behavioral health technicians employed by the agency are including the discharge questionnaire in the admission packet for a 12-week trial period. This discharge questionnaire asks clients their preferred location for follow up appointments, if they are active in their care, if transportation is needed for follow up appointments and verifies the patient’s phone number. Clients complete the discharge questionnaire and return it to the behavioral health technicians with their admission packet. The discharge questionnaire is then given to case managers to assess and address concerns outlined on the questionnaire. Data will be gathered over 12-weeks to determine if the rate of non-attendance decreases with the integration of the questionnaire. The project is in the implementation phase. The anticipated outcome is there will be an increase in the rate of attendance at follow-up appointments post discharge with the use of the discharge questionnaire. By utilizing the discharge questionnaire, case managers will be better able to determine barriers that lead to non-attendance to follow up appointments. With the barriers identified and addressed, individuals will be more likely to attend their follow-up appointments and medication compliance and rates of re-hospitalizations will improve.

Nonattendance Rates and Barriers to Health Care in Outpatient Clinic Settings

Lower socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and race are associated with reduced health care use in the United States. Patients who continually miss their appointments suffer significant negative results, including a disruption in continuity of care, complications with their chronic illnesses, and an increase in hospital readmissions. The health belief model was used as the theoretical support for this project that investigated the underlying causes of no-shows at an urban hospital-based outpatient clinic in the United States. It used a quantitative, descriptive design and examined a minority, underserved, and underinsured population that was receiving care at the research site and had a fairly consistent 30% no-show rate. Data was collected by anonymous survey from 151 patients and 22 health care providers and analyzed via means, t tests, and an ANOVA. Female patients were significantly more likely than male patients to approve of the current scheduling system at the site, in which patients simply call the clinic for an appointment (p = 0.040). White (non-Hispanic) patients in general had a statistically lower interest in receiving appointment reminders via text compared to the rest of the population (p=0.024). Patients who were 29 years old and younger were significantly less likely than patients who were 30 years old and over to indicate that they did not show up to appointments due to a lack of insurance (p '? 0.001). This project promoted positive social change by increasing patient, staff, and stakeholder awareness of the reasons patients miss their appointments. The findings of this project can be used to improve appointment scheduling, reduce patient wait times, increase patient satisfaction, and increase cost savings to the clinic.

Características del género épico en el reality show a través de su puesta en escena : el caso del programa de televisión Esto es Guerra

El reality show se ha convertido en uno de los formatos más exitosos de la televisión. En el Perú dicha tendencia se ve reflejada por la gran audiencia que el reality convoca y porque su contenido se convierte en tema de conversación, debate y noticia. Las características híbridas de este formato televisivo permiten acercarse al tema desde distintas perspectivas. En este caso el siguiente trabajo busca identificar y analizar cómo el género épico participa en el reality show peruano Esto es Guerra. Se plantea como hipótesis que el género épico participa en la premisa del programa al presentar de manera mítica la competencia y que el escenario del programa exhibe a los participantes al proclamarlos como “guerreros” en los que el reality destaca su atractivo y fortaleza física. Para esta tesis se realizará una metodología cualitativa en la que se observará y analizará los capítulos de las finales de la quinta, décima y décimo tercera temporada del reality show Esto es Guerra y se asociará las características del reality show con las del género épico en el programa y cómo estas se presentan en su puesta en escena. Luego del análisis se ha podido concluir que el género épico presenta la premisa del programa como una aventura para los participantes que resalta la rivalidad de los equipos Cobras y Leones, a la final de temporada como una hazaña en la que ambos equipos compiten por ser el ganador y muestra a sus participantes como guerreros los cuales por medio del esfuerzo físico se convierten en los héroes de sus equipos.
