Model-based approaches to support process improvement in complex product developmentWynn, David Charles January 2007 (has links)
The performance of product development processes is important to the commercial success of new products. The improvement of these processes is thus a strategic imperative for many engineering companies - the aero-engine is one example of a complex product for which market pressures necessitate ever-shorter development times. This thesis argues that process modelling and simulation can support the improvement of complex product development processes. A literature review identified that design process modelling is a well-establishedresearch area encompassing a diverse range of approaches. However, most existing tools and methods are not widely applied in industry. An extended case study was therefore conducted to explore the pragmatic utility of process modelling and simulation. It is argued that iteration is a key driver of design process behaviour which cannot be fully reflected in a mechanistic model. Understanding iteration can help select an appropriate representation for a given process domain and modelling objective. A model-based approach to improve the management of iterative design processes was developed. This approach shows that design process simulation models can support practice despite their limited fidelity. The modelling and simulation framework resulting from this work was enhanced for application to a wider range of process improvement activities. A robust and extensible software platform was also developed. The framework and software tool have made significant contribution to research projects investigating process redesign, process robustness and process optimisation. These projects are discussed to validate the framework and tool and to highlight their applicability beyond the original approach. The research results were disseminated in academia and industry - 72 copies of the software were distributed following requests in the first three months of its release.

Submitted by Marcelo Teixeira (mvteixeira@ucs.br) on 2014-05-20T17:13:49Z

It deals with aspects of civil responsibility and the concession of highways with toll systems. It is a brief study of concession granting, giving rise to the complex of relationships established between the State, the private concession holder, users and third parties, analyzing the concession contract, its characteristics, and the obligations of the parties. This study spans civil responsibility and the responsibility of the State, focusing on objective responsibility and norm § 6° of art. 37 of the Federal Constitution. Special attention is given to environmental damage, its characteristics, civil responsibility and the responsibility of the State for environmental damage, objective responsibility and the theories that inform them, focusing on individual harm caused by environmental damage and its reparation examining the provisions in Brazilian law. It deals with the responsibility of the highway concession holders focused on application of art. 37, § 6° of the Fede ral Constitution, which extended the responsibility of the State to highway concession holders. It examines the law that has resulted in the civil responsibility of concession holders for damages caused by accidents resulting from improper construction, maintenance or signposting of highways and that relative to civil responsibility for individual harm caused by environmental damage.

Lipůvka – spirálová okružní křižovatka silnic I/43 a II/379 / Lipůvka – turbo roundabout of roads I/43 and II/379Patočka, Miroslav January 2014 (has links)
This thesis builds on previous work on an Institute of Roads FAST VUT dealing with modifications of road I/43 Brno – Svitavy. A conversion of the existing temporary three leg single lane roundabout to egg turbo roundabout with four legs, is proposed there, in accordance with local plan of Lipůvka. The intersection of road I/43 and II/379 can be characterized by large congestions in the morning peak hours during weekdays and afternoon peak hours on Saturday and Sunday. That is the reason for implementation of capacity assessment of designed turbo roundabout and comparison with current situation. Construction of fourth leg is motivated by the planned expansion of residential area and the development of industrial zone on the south-western outskirts of the village and rerouting of the county road II/379 out of built-up area as well. Road I/43 is an important thoroughfare north of Brno, so it is obvious effort to eliminate the bottlenecks on the route. The thesis also includes a theoretical introduction dealing with the design of turbo roundabouts abroad.
