Siva's Dance: A Choreographic Thesis

Smith, Kathleen L 01 January 1982 (has links) (PDF)
Siva's Dance was a project which had been in various developmental stages for many years. The work symbolized movement in the universe through the cycles of creation and destruction; where life and death give birth to one another. Siva represented the continuing thread which weaves the years and cycles together. My choreographic intention was to thread small segments together to create an ongoing and evolutionary process. None of these segments vas meant as a complete statement, rather each was a compacted and cryptic piece to be seen as a color, or word added to the whole. The wide chronological spans are intended to portray the creative and destructive cycles as an ongoing process and the chosen subject matter for each piece was purely subjective.

Iorio-Morin, Christian January 2013 (has links)

Vztah proteinu SIVA a signálních drah Hedgehog/GLI a mTOR ke vzniku a progresi nemalobuněčného karcinomu plic. / Relationship of protein SIVA and signaling pathways Hedgehog/GLI and mTOR to the origin and progression of non-small cell lung cancer.

Vachtenheim, Jiří January 2021 (has links)
Non-small cell lung cancer belongs to most frequent malignant tumours at all worldwide. Despite significant progress in knowledge about etiopathogenesis and targeted anticancer therapy, basic scientific research in this particular field and development of more effective treatment remains challenging. In case of its inadequate activation, the Hedgehog signaling pathway is involved in non-small cell cancer development. P53 is well known tumour suppressor gene, that serves as anticancer barrier. Its activity is mostly determined by the transcriptional activation of many pro-apoptotic genes, one of which is SIVA-1. Recently, it has been surprisingly shown, that SIVA-1 has also pro-oncogenic properties in a mouse model of non-small cell lung cancer. The aim of this study was to clarify the importance of Hedgehog signaling pathway and protein SIVA-1 and their potential relationship in development and progression of human non-small cell lung cancer. In selected cell lines of human non-small cell lung cancer, expression of each single component of Hedgehog signalign pathway was detected. In the tissue samples of tumour obtained from 39 patients that underwent surgery for non-small cell lung cancer and selected cell lines of the same tumour, expression of SIVA-1 protein was revealed. These findings indicate...

Age of Scripture: Divine Words and Human Authors in Premodern India

St Amant, Guy January 2022 (has links)
"Age of Scripture" charts the first-millennium emergence of new bodies of scripture within three major South Asian religious communities and considers intellectual responses to their rapid proliferation. This period witnessed an explosion in the production of textualized teachings attributed to the Buddha, Śiva, and Viṣṇu. These new corpora resemble one another in important ways, and their rise to prominence contributed to a shared sense of what it meant for a text to be "scripture." This study examines how these texts were conceptualized and analyzes them with reference to the actual practices employed in their production. In other words, it considers what it meant for these communities to attribute a definite text to a divine or awakened figure — whether the Buddha, Śiva, or Viṣṇu — and seeks to uncover how the notion of divine authorship, broadly defined, relates to the ways in which human beings actually produced and transmitted sacred texts. It shows that a similar set of presuppositions governed the creation of divine words across different communities, enabling comparable outcomes among Buddhists, Śaivas, and Vaiṣṇavas. After setting out the text-historical shape of this period, "Age of Scripture" considers the intellectual-historical reaction to these corpora. It analyzes, first of all, Mīmāṃsā attempts to deny the validity of these new texts through an anti-pluralistic philosophy that establishes, at least in theory, the Veda as the sole source of scriptural authority. And, second, it reviews various attempts to contend with Mīmāṃsā’s challenge, especially through rationalized defenses of pluralism.

Sri Lankan Discourses of Ethno-Nationalism and Religious Fundamentalism

Sivaloganathan, Myra January 2017 (has links)
In this thesis, I argue that discourses of victimhood, victory, and xenophobia underpin both Sinhalese and Tamil nationalist and religious fundamentalist movements. Ethnic discourse has allowed citizens to affirm collective ideals in the face of disparate experiences, reclaim power and autonomy in contexts of fundamental instability, but has also deepened ethnic divides in the post-war era. In the first chapter, I argue that mutually exclusive narratives of victimhood lie at the root of ethnic solitudes, and provide barriers to mechanisms of transitional justice and memorialization. The second chapter includes an analysis of the politicization of mythic figures and events from the Rāmāyaṇa and Mahāvaṃsa in nationalist discourses of victory, supremacy, and legacy. Finally, in the third chapter, I explore the Liberation Tiger of Tamil Eelam’s (LTTE) rhetoric and symbolism, and contend that a xenophobic discourse of terrorism has been imposed and transferred from Tamil to Muslim minorities. Ultimately, these discourses prevent Sri Lankans from embracing a multi-ethnic and multi-religious nationality, and hinder efforts at transitional justice. By shedding light on the discourses underlying popular nationalist movements, I hope to promote understanding and further post-war reconciliation between ethnic groups in Sri Lanka. / Thesis / Master of Arts (MA)
