Retain your gamblers : A study of behavioural loyalty in a market with low switching costs

Fjätström Zetterberg, Oliver, Schelin, Julia January 2017 (has links)
The iGaming industry has exploded the last decade. With more competitors on the market with low switching costs, retention of players is an issue not yet resolved. Attracting players through offers has made the iGaming industry less lucrative due to its high competition, where a “bonus war” has taken over. This survey aims to find out how iGaming companies can decrease their churn rate through CRM and loyalty programs to increase revenue and thereby creating a long-term relationship with the player. Based on theory of switching costs and loyalty programs, this thesis investigates how different factors influence customer retention. Interviews with four competing casinos were made to see how they are working progressively towards decreased churn rate. The information provided concluded that management sometimes lacked the understanding of how to utilize consumer information and way of communication to increase their revenue. Loyalty programs were used to somewhat extent and correlates partly to what Berman (2006) describes as an important strategy for customer retention in a competitive, homogenous market. Further research is recommended from a legal, ethical and marketing cost perspective.

Mutual admittance between CPW-FED slots on conductor-backed two-layer substrates

Jacobs, Jan Pieter 29 July 2008 (has links)
Slot dipole antennas fed by coplanar waveguide (CPW) on substrates consisting of a single dielectric layer exhibit various attractive qualities, including significantly wider impedance bandwidth than comparable microstrip patch antennas. For applications that call for unidirectional radiation, such as antennas on airframes, a conducting back plane is needed. A CPW on a conductor-backed single-dielectric-layer substrate will always experience power leakage into the TEM parallel-plate mode. On the other hand, it is possible to design CPW lines on conductor-backed two-layer substrates that are free from leakage into the substrate. However, once the CPW is used as feed line to a slot dipole, power leakage into the TM0 substrate mode caused by the transition between the CPW and the radiating slot, and by the radiating slot itself, may still severely compromise radiation efficiency. This study has two main contributions to offer. First, a paucity of work on CPW-fed slot antennas on conductor-backed two-layer substrates is alleviated by providing a fuller characterization of single-slot behaviour on two-layer parallel-plate substrates than is currently available, and by systematically investigating a practically feasible minimum antenna configuration, namely broadside twin slots, that is not debilitated by the problem of substrate mode leakage. Results obtained with the moment-method-based electromagnetic simulator IE3D that emphasize the trade-off between radiation efficiency and impedance bandwidth are presented; they can be used for design purposes. For instance, with respect to single slots on a substrate with an electrically thin top dielectric layer and an air bottom layer, it is shown that radiation efficiency increases and bandwidth decreases as height of the bottom substrate layer increases. For broadside twin slots, it is demonstrated that spacing close to half a wavelength of the two-layer parallel-plate TM0 mode apart can yield a large improvement in radiation efficiency over that of a single slot (a reduction in bandwidth however occurs). The second main contribution is the development of an approach for finding the mutual admittance Y12 between CPW-fed slots on conductor-backed two-layer substrates that can be more readily incorporated in an iterative array design procedure than a moment-method-based technique, yet is of comparable accuracy; it is built on a standard reciprocity-based expression. As an initial step, the mutual admittance between CPW-fed slots on a conductor-backed two-layer substrate with an air bottom layer is characterized using IE3D. This involves presenting curves for Y12 between twin slots against slot separation d along standard paths for slot half-lengths in the vicinities of the first and second resonant half-lengths of the corresponding isolated slots (such data might be used towards a first-order array design), and a study of the effect of back plane distance (i.e., bottom layer height) on mutual coupling. The bulk of the thesis however is devoted to the above reciprocity-expression approach. Simplifying assumptions are outlined that make it possible to determine Y12 against d by performing a once-only moment-method analysis of each slot in isolation, and then calculating external and internal reaction integrals at each value of d. This is significantly more economical than carrying out a full moment-method analysis of the whole twin-slot structure at every instance of d. Evaluation of the internal reaction integral requires the appropriate component of the spatial-domain Green’s function for the substrate, which is derived in a form containing Sommerfeld-type integrals; treatment of singularities is discussed. The reciprocity-expression approach is verified by comparing Y12 against d curves for twin slots and non-identical slot pairs on a variety of conductor-backed two-layer substrates to IE3D simulations. A procedure that involves judicious selection of reference planes is introduced by which agreement between the methods for the special case of twin slots with the same half-length as the corresponding isolated second-resonant slot can be even further improved. A measurement is provided that validate theoretical calculations. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering / unrestricted

Ahlgren, Wilmer, Johansson, Henrik January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study has been to investigate whether there is an interest in social interactions in video-slots and how that can be designed to give users a good user experience. Online casino is the form of gaming that has increased most in popularity in Sweden in recent years and the video-slots gametype are growing the most. Previous studies shows that there is a driving force to do things together and that strengthens and enriches experiences. Studies on social interactions in online games clearly shows that enjoyment is an important element for playing. The purpose is also to investigate if social interactions in video-slots can provide a healthier game for people who have gambling problems.  Video-slots is a hedonic motivation system (HMS) and is used to give the user pleasure and joy in a system. The theory on which the study is based on is HMSAM, which is an HMS specific model that has been used to create an understanding of perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, joy, control and curiosity, which can affect internal motivation. Internal motivation is needed for users to be able to deepen and continue to use an HMS-system. The study has a qualitative approach and qualitative semi-structured interviews have been used in the collection of empirical data. The focus has been on the users' experiences, their motivations, driving forces, control and desires regarding social interactions in the playing of video-slots.The questions in the interviews are based on HMSAM, but also on the basis of the Octalysis gamification framework. The results from the data collection were analyzed on the basis of the categories and patterns that were created. The analysis showed a great motivation to play video-slots online together and that it would enhance their gaming experience. Even though it had simplified their gaming sessions and higher community when the majority of the informants already played video-slots today together, but with their own constructed methods. The analysis also showed that the informants play primarily for the pleasure and excitement. Based on the data from the interviews, design proposals were made, in support of the gamification framework. The design proposals resulted in six graphical interface sketches with functions that were considered to create a good user experience.

Zvyšování účinnosti třífázových asynchronních motorů / The improvement of efficiency of three-phase induction motors

Vinkler, Stanislav January 2014 (has links)
This work is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness of a particular draft induction motor, which was before the change and subjected to laboratory measurements according to EN60034 - 2-1, an analytical calculation of the losses and the overall efficiency and analysis program RMxprt. The first part focuses on the analysis of measurement data, measurement of partial loss in the machine and overall efficiency. In the second chapter, losses and efficiency calculated analytically, in the first case using the links in the professional literature dealing with the design of electric motors and in the second case by a program for the rapid design of rotating electrical machines, RMxprt program. At the end of this chapter all parameters are obtained measurements and calculations are compared. The third chapter is devoted to the calculation of losses and the resulting efficiency machines in a computer program, in which I gradually adopted changes to increase the efficiency of electrical machines. It also shows the calculation of the new dimensions of the stator and rotor slots. In the fourth chapter, the preparation of documentation for the production of a new two-layer winding for the current machine, while preserving the original dimensions of stator slots. The last part is devoted to the analysis of measurement data on the supplied asynchronous motor with a newly designed stator winding. In conclusion then discussed the results of work.

An Enhanced Multi-Beacon Superframe Structure for IEEE 802.15.4 Wireless Personal Area Networks

Ho, Ping-Hsien 13 June 2012 (has links)
In an IEEE802.15.4 beacon-enabled wireless personal area network (WPAN), the PAN coordinator can allocate slots using contention free-GTSs (guaranteed the time slots) for admitted devices. However, due to fixed slot size, the bandwidth waste problem may arise. Hence, reference [6] proposed the multi-beacon superframe structure (MBS) to overcome this problem. However, in [6], the structure of sub-beacon intervals in a superframe is non-adaptive. Therefore, this thesis proposes an enhanced multi-beacon superframe structure (EMBS). In EMBS, a PAN coordinator employs the greedy SBI-allocation algorithm to adjust a superframe structure according to the traffic demand of admitted devices such that a superframe can consist of a number of different types of sub-beacon intervals (SBIs). Simulation results reveal that a WPAN using EMBS can attain higher bandwidth utilization than a WPAN using 802.15.4 or MBS.

Optimisation du brochage des alvéoles de disque de turbine / Optimization of fir-tree broaching process for turbine disc

Mandrile, Sébastien 14 November 2013 (has links)
From more than fifty years ago, the broaching process is what the aeronautic engine manufacturers use the most to machine turbine disc fir-tree slots. The aim of this thesis is to improve the understanding of the broaching process in order to optimize the efficiency of this process. This study is divided into four steps: a study of Udimet 720® machinability, the modelization of fir-tree slot broaches and of cutting forces, an experimental study of fir-tree slots broaching and finally, a proposed method of process monitoring. A study of Udimet 720® machinability is made to fill the lack of current studies about this superalloy and to develop cutting forces model for the modelization of the broaching process. Modelization allows the association of specific forces to each discretized broach tooth according to various machining parameters. Fir tree slots broaching trials were used to check the accuracy of modelization and to suggest, according to the latter, conception choices aiming at improving the efficiency of the process. Process monitoring, in the broaching field, offers a strategy which purpose is to detect various machining disturbances and to limit the risk of rejected parts with high added value.

Etude expérimentale des écoulements de Taylor-Couette-Poiseuille en entrefer encoché : Application aux machines électriques automobiles / Experimental Studies of Taylor-Couette-Poiseuille Flow in Slots Narrow Gap : Applying to Automotive Electrical Motor

Meynet, Yannick 26 January 2016 (has links)
The present work aimed to experimentally study the flow and heat transfer in a configuration corresponding to the gap of an automotive electrical motor (a thin airlayer between the rotating (rotor) and stationary (stator) parts.) Two rotor geometries are studied: one cylindrical and the other one with four slots which reproduce a synchronous motor used in automotive traction. An axial flow is superimposed to the rotation flow thanks to a ventilation system. The two most important parameters are axial Reynolds number and rotational Reynolds number. Velocity measurements are performed by PIV and heat transfer by infrared thermography coupled with heated thin foils. A complex counter rotational vortex flow has been recorded in the slots. Moreover, this slot flow seems to interact with the pole flow in the inlet region. This interaction seems to disappear rapidly after entrance area. Heat transfer rate is 3D, with great differences between the two slots faces and the pole. Classically, heat transfer rate grows with increasing axial Reynolds number. The relation between heat transfer rate and rotation Reynolds number is more complex
