A representação da Educação Física na mídia televisiva / The representation of physical education in the television media

Cássia Marques Cândido 10 August 2015 (has links)
This research focuses on the professional image of the physical education teacher, considering the notoriety that this profession has acquired on television in the last years. The purpose is to clarify some of the meanings related to the approach of physical education in the context of two programs aired by television channel Rede Globo. The first was based on the eighteenth season of the television series/soap opera "Malhação" and the second on TV frame Medida Certa Measure right / 90 days to reset the body", displayed by the program Fantástico in 2011. The data had taken through access to the TV channel website, which provides for a certain period, the chapters of the mentioned soap opera, as well as editions of that TV show. The method used to guide the analysis of the production process of the senses was the theoretical referential of Discourse Analysis from the perspective of Orlandi. This method allows us to tread ways able to show the explicit and implicit senses coexisting in the speech. So were trodden paths to specific understanding of each phenomenon, that is, for data taken from Malhação were used transcription of dialogues, scenes of presentation and consideration of the camera plans used in their production. For the data from the TV frame Medida Certa were used transcription lines and construction of categories analyzed from an existing grid, considering the title, the speaker, what is said, the intermediary and the strategies used for publication of speech. The results became clear that the senses concerning the physical education present in the eighteenth season of Malhação were inspired by the competitive paradigm area. The outdated stereotypes about the professional and profession were also preserved because the sense for the elderly professor of physical education has been reduced to augmentation of features related to academic outdated. In addition, the results obtained from the analysis of the second phenomenon could clarify that physical education has been dealt with the use of scientific discourse from strategies ruled by examples tested by journalists and offered to viewers. The proposal contained in the TV frame Medida Certa contributed to the representation of physical education as a profession based on biological perspective that is established against the imposition of a risk to the subject, rising as a source of salvation and being separated from cultural and social issues. Besides highlighting meanings that allude to physical education represented in the media in the current moment, the study provided reflections about some principles that regulate the establishment of bodily practices in physical education.

Listening to radio theatre in Argentina in the 1950s : “The town became a ghost town when it was radio theatre time”

Milutinovic Villarraza, Maria Milagro January 2018 (has links)
This thesis aims to analyse Argentinean radio broadcasting in the 1950s and especially how this medium issued the so-called radio theatre that the audience received in their everyday life. More precisely it is investigated how radio theatre in the 1950s is remembered today, both by listeners who took part in these broadcasts and how it is remembered in the media. Of special interest is what is articulated as specific about its form and how radio theatre was integrated in and changed everyday life. The audience was not only able to receive radio theatre but was also able to contribute with their own stories. Argentina was one of the pioneering countries in the field of broadcasting, performing its first radio broadcast on August 27, 1920, in the city of Buenos Aires. The Argentinian radio broadcasting was a place of entertainment, information, social and political discussions. One of the main changes in Argentina radio broadcasting happened in 1929 in Buenos Aires. This change was influenced by the first broadcast of radio theatre. In the beginning, radio plays were about stories of “gauchos” (in English cowboys) and folklore, provoking enthusiasm amongst the audience. Argentina radio theatre continues to develop with the introduction of gender-oriented goals which became significant successful. The radio play began to cover the whole family`s interest. Argentina radio theatre caused a significantly change in its audiences’ customs throughout the country. This thesis research has adopted the Media Memory studies theories and is based on Bertolt Brecht’s theory of radio as well as McQuail`s audience theory. Additionally, this study is situated and looked at in a wider framework of previous research conducted by Barfiel, Hilmes & Loviglio, Brandt and Crook. To reach the objective of this study, 17 semi- structured qualitative interviews have been conducted with Argentinians who lived in different cities and listened to radio plays during the 1950s. The results of this research project demonstrate that nowadays, radio theatre audiences from the 50s reflect on and feel nostalgic about the way they used to listen to radio dramas in those days. More specifically, about waiting for the broadcast to start, gathering with the family around the radio set, or talking to friends or relatives about the episode of the day. In addition, radio play audiences reflect positively on the opportunity to meet in person the actors of the radio plays when they were on tour in Argentina. Moreover, this study illustrates that nowadays, Argentinian media also remember radio theatres through publishing articles that refer to them.

South African and Flemish soap opera : a critical whiteness studies perspective

Knoetze, Hannelie Marx 11 1900 (has links)
The main goal of this thesis was an investigation into the ways in which whiteness is constructed and positioned in the South African soap opera, 7de Laan, and the Flemish soap opera, Thuis, with the emphasis on the possible implications of these constructions for local as well as global discourses on whiteness in the media. In conjunction with the above, this thesis endeavoured to answer a number of subquestions relating to the origin and history of the construct of “whiteness” and Critical Whiteness Studies (CWS) as a theoretical approach and its relevance in the South African and Flemish contexts, specifically as it pertains to the analysis of mass media texts like 7de Laan and Thuis. It, moreover, sought to explore if and how whiteness functions as an organising principle in the narratives and representations of these soap operas with the emphasis on potential similarities, differences and the kinds of whiteness constructed in these texts. Finally, the goal was to draw conclusions on the possible implications of these differences and similarities in the wider context of the way in which whiteness functions in the media. To that end I conducted a controlled case comparison of a sample from these two community soap opera texts, which was informed by a literature review and deep description of each context as part of the qualitative approach I chose to take. Despite a number of similarities between the two contexts, they still differ significantly, and this afforded me an opportunity to highlight both the consistencies and particularities in the ideological patterning of representations of whiteness, across seemingly unrelated domains, to illustrate its pervasiveness. Added to the emergence of three shared rhetorical devices perpetuating whiteness in both texts, I was also able to draw conclusions about the unique way in which whiteness functions in 7de Laan in particular, since South Africa remains the primary context of the study. / Communication Science / D.
