ESG and Risk-Adjusted Performance : A study on equity funds under Swedish management during the COVID-19 pandemic / ESG och riskjusterade avkastning : En studie om Svenskforvaltade aktipfonder under Covid-nandemin

Mao, Clarissa, Safa, Jawid January 2022 (has links)
This research study examines the risk-adjusted performance and portfolio risk of 60 large cap equity funds - mutual funds - under Swedish management. These funds apply environmental, social and governance criteria in their investment strategies. The empirical context concerns the COVID-19 situation and the context is divided into three periods, before, during and after the COVID-19 crisis. The ESG concept, modern portfolio and stakeholder theories are used to develop a theoretical base for the study on which the hypotheses are based which are summarized in a conceptual model. Secondary data regarding ESG and risk-adjusted returns are collected for each fund based on which the sharpe ratios and standard deviations (total or portfolio risk) for each fund are calculated. While there are associations between ESG and portfolio risk, no associations are found between ESG and sharpe ratios. As a result, this confirms the fact that ESG could be characterized as a mechanism to protect against downside risk in poor economic times but no association was established that ESG could also be used as a mechanism to determine efficiency in terms of risk-adjusted performance

Karlström, P & Mårtensson, L. Sjukdomen Parkinson och livskvalitet. En kvalitativ studie utifrån Parkinsonsjuka personers upplevelser av livskvalitet. Examensarbete i omvårdnad 15 högskolepoäng. Malmö Högskola: Fakulteten för Hälsa och Samhälle, Utbildningsområde omvårdnad, 2016. Parkinsons sjukdom är en kronisk progressiv neurologiskt sjukdom. Orsaken till sjukdomen är okänd. Årligen insjuknar omkring 2000 personer i Sverige. Databasökning utfördes i tre olika databaser. Parkinson`s Disease and Quality of Life - An qualitative literature review from the perspective of the patients with Parkinson`s Disease about Quality of life. A literature review. Degree project in Nursing science, 15 Credit Points. Malmö University. Faculty of Health and Society. Department of Caring Science, 2016.Parkinson`s Disease is a progressive neurological disease. The cause of the disease is still unknown. In Sweden, there are 2000 new sufferers each year. The prevalence in Sweden is about 20 000. The average age due to the first symtoms appearing, is 55 years old. The three main symtoms are: akinesia, shakiness and muscle stifness. The disease also includes symtoms as depression, anxiety and apathy. Parkinson`s Disease has an effect on many aspects of life. The aim of the study was to examine how grown adults experienced their daily life and how they described the Quality of life changing. The method was a literature review using qualitative data. Data was gathered from three different databases. The material was then critically evaluated using a qualityprotocall. The results were gathered from ten different articles. Four main qualitative categories were found: Relations and socializing and Health and ill-health, body changes and Live on despite having Parkinson`s Disease. The main categories were later on further divided into subcategories. Conclusions that was drawn explained that Parkinson`s disease is a complicated disease envolving many aspects of the patients life which contributes to the experience of Ouality of life. Keywords: Acceptance, Future, Parkinson`s Disease and Socially wellbeing. Quality of life.

Socially aware robot navigation

Antonucci, Alessandro 03 November 2022 (has links)
A growing number of applications involving autonomous mobile robots will require their navigation across environments in which spaces are shared with humans. In those situations, the robot’s actions are socially acceptable if they reflect the behaviours that humans would generate in similar conditions. Therefore, the robot must perceive people in the environment and correctly react based on their actions and relevance to its mission. In order to give a push forward to human-robot interaction, the proposed research is focused on efficient robot motion algorithms, covering all the tasks needed in the whole process, such as obstacle detection, human motion tracking and prediction, socially aware navigation, etc. The final framework presented in this thesis is a robust and efficient solution enabling the robot to correctly understand the human intentions and consequently perform safe, legible, and socially compliant actions. The thesis retraces in its structure all the different steps of the framework through the presentation of the algorithms and models developed, and the experimental evaluations carried out both with simulations and on real robotic platforms, showing the performance obtained in real–time in complex scenarios, where the humans are present and play a prominent role in the robot decisions. The proposed implementations are all based on insightful combinations of traditional model-based techniques and machine learning algorithms, that are adequately fused to effectively solve the human-aware navigation. The specific synergy of the two methodology gives us greater flexibility and generalization than the navigation approaches proposed so far, while maintaining accuracy and reliability which are not always displayed by learning methods.

Design of a System to Investigate the Relationship Between Feedback and Delivery Medium for a Novel Motor Task

Humpal, Ashley 01 December 2022 (has links) (PDF)
Stroke is a chronic, lifelong illness, and full recovery requires continuous physical and cognitive rehabilitation. Such long-term rehabilitation is cost-prohibitive; however an approach to providing long-term therapy that has recently gained traction is the use of socially assistive agent (SAA) systems. These systems make use of non-contact communication devices and can be used to guide people through a variety of rehabilitative tasks. They have the potential supplement current rehabilitation practices by providing motivation during intense exercises, and can extend the reach of the therapist into remote and home settings. Though SAA systems have been used in a variety of rehabilitative and assistive contexts, there remain questions regarding the best design for such systems. Currently there is a lack of detail on what type of feedback optimizes user performance, and the role that the delivery medium (e.g., a human coach, a tablet, or a robot) plays in user performance. The purpose of this thesis is the design of a system to investigate the interaction between feedback and medium type when implemented for a novel motor task. The selected task is modeled on the shuffleboard game, with the delivery medium including a human coach and tablet and two types of augmented feedback. The designed system incorporates various hardware and software components. A vision system communicates with a laptop to record and analyze motor task data, with a program that also interfaces with a control circuit. The control circuit may transmit data through Bluetooth to a custom-built app on the tablet, which then provides augmented feedback with audio dialogue. Otherwise, the human coach is provided designed feedback from the laptop. An initial system evaluation was performed with this constructed system using pilot participants to validate the design. The initial system evaluation demonstrated the ability to improve participant performance; however, it also demonstrated a high level of task difficulty. Several changes may need to be incorporated to the system to ensure better learning for participants. This includes changes to the physical setup, as well as changes to the frequency of the augmented feedback. This thesis may be used as the foundation for future experimentation with different delivery media or types of augmented feedback to discover how to best optimize user performance for a novel motor task.
