January 2010 (has links)
This study investigates, in a comparative perspective, the process of rereading history and reviving the forgotten memory of Francoist Spain by the fictional discourse. Based on the novels Galíndez (1990) and Autobiografía del general Franco (1992) by Manuel Vázquez Montalbán, this research highlights the study of the historiographic metafiction and the role played by these works as aesthetic models for other narratives which would later arise in the Spanish literature, and which would also address the subject of the Spanish Civil War and the Francoism. This study investigates how these historical narratives arise in the context of an aesthetics of Postmodernity, without, however, letting the relativization of history fade the horrors of violence, repression and abuse of power seen in Trujillo‟s and Franco‟s dictatorial governments. Therefore, although these narratives by Manuel Vázquez Montalbán incorporate the typical aesthetic resources of historiographic metafiction, such as metafiction, parody, pastiche, irony, intertextuality and self-reflexivity, they do not abandon the characteristic of claiming for an aesthetics of ethics and an unofficial history of the dictatorships / Doutor

Cervantes e a nova arte de novelar em \'Rinconete y Cortadillo\' / Cervantes and the new art of writing novels in \'Rinconete y Cortadillo\'

Paula Renata de Araújo 26 March 2010 (has links)
The objective of this work is to contextualize Rinconete y Cortadillo exemplary novel within the works of Miguel de Cervantes and analyze it by establishing a dialogue with some of the literary genres of its time, namely the picaresque novel and drama. This current dissertation examines how the text evolves since it was first mentioned in Don Quixote (1605) until its publication among the Exemplary Novels in 1613. I will analyze the several forms of speech pervading the novel in light of Cervantes propinquity to the picaresque literature .By incorporating into the narrative drama-related elements, the author brings his work to deal more closely with everyday topics, as comedy has been used to. Thereby one can notice how Rinconete y Cortadillo displays, both comically and satirically, certain vices and blemishes present in the 16th- and 17thcentury Sevillan society.

Morale, religion et exemplarité dans la littérature fantastique espagnole (1830-1890) : Poétique d’un genre non canonique / Morality, religion and exemplarity in Spanish fantastic literature (1830-1890) : Poetics of a non-canonical genre

Pédeflous, Justine 24 October 2015 (has links)
Almost unknown in France, Spanish fantastic literature is frequently considered as nonexistent or minor, in comparison with other traditions from Europe or Latin America. A strong presence of moral and religious thematics in the nineteenth century can contribute to explain the fact that she is placed out of the fantastic canon. First, the relationship between Spanish fantastic and morality and religion must be considered through a study of the socio-cultural context, which seems reluctant to the development of the genre. In a second time, we will concentrate on the different manifestations of the hispanization of the genre: the reception of foreign texts, and the national production, as the legend, will be studied in order to show how the fantastic changes in Spain, in particular how it becomes more moral. A comparative perspective will permit to understand the complex phenomenon of hybridization, characteristic of the corpus between 1830 and 1890. Finally, the consequences of cohabitation of fantastic and exemplar poetics will be analyzed. The study of edifying strategies and of illustrations will be completed by psychoanalytical theory in a search of sense, beyond the conscious mechanisms of exemplarity.

Mutations contemporaines du roman espagnol : Agustín Fernández Mallo et Vincente Luis Mora / Contemporary mutations of the spanish novel : Agustín Fernández Mallo and Vicente Luis Mora

Pantel, Alice 04 December 2012 (has links)
Since 2007, the Spanish literary panorama has been shaken up by a mutant trend led by writers Agustín Fernández Mallo and Vicente Luis Mora. The two writers claim they have conveyed an aesthetic paradigm into Spanish fiction which is bringing it into line with the social, economic and technological mutations that are changing the way people relate with reality. By analysing a corpus of seven different texts, the aim of this study is a better understanding as to how a literature may claim its style has adapted narrative limits to the complexity of the contemporary world. The approach, which is largely literary, though adapts narratology tools to the porous borders of the study’s corpus, explores the formal features of the texts with the aim of throwing light on the manner in which these works relate to reality. The mutant novel evokes, quotes and uses the language of visual arts, music, architecture or science. The pregnance of this on literary works is discussed in the second part of this study. The third part focuses on the impact of these mutations on novels’ socio-cultural environment (writer, book, reader). With the view of offering an up-to-date understanding of contemporary literature, we question the Spanish mutations of the “telling tool” by pondering on the pertinence of notions such as plastic style, rhizomatic stories, the aesthetics of quotes or augmented books.

Doppelgänger ve španělské povídkové tvorbě / Doppelgänger in spanish short stories

Kroupová, Alžběta January 2017 (has links)
(in English) The topic of this master thesis is a character of the double in Spanish short stories focused on 20th century. Firstly, we describe the historical context of this literary theme and we observe its changing through the time, its transition from a tragic tone to absurdity or a comic tone. The aim of this work is to observe Freud's concept of "unheimlich" feeling applied to the topic of the double and to investigate what literary tools can intensify this feeling in the reader. After this, we focus on repeating motives in selected short stories and we contemplate constituent aspects of this topic in the context of humanities.

Samota v díle Juana José Milláse / Loneliness in the work of Juan José Millás

Pěknicová, Veronika January 2016 (has links)
This thesis deals with the analysis of two novels by Juan José Millás (El desorden de tu nombre and La soledad era esto), in which it concentrates on the characters in difficult life situations and their feeling of loneliness. The first part of work examines Spanish postmodern literature after 1975 and its characteristics which can be found in the work of Millás. The second and principal part is dedicated both to the typology of characters and also to the topic of loneliness, its cause and outcome. The aim of this work is an attempt to define main events which have influence on the evolution and current condition of the characters that these have in common or, on the contrary, different. There will be also taken into consideration whether the protagonist is a man or a woman. The work will be also focused on protagonists' characters, their inner world, existential questions which the persons ask themselves and their search of lost identity.

Hispanic Orientalism: The Literary Development of a Cultural Paradigm, from Medieval Spain to Modern Latin America

Tyutina, Svetlana V. 06 November 2014 (has links)
This dissertation offers a novel approach to Hispanic Orientalism, developing a dynamic paradigm from its origins in medieval and Renaissance Iberia during the process of the Christian Reconquest, to its transatlantic migration and establishment in the early years of the Colony, from where it changed in late colonial and post-Independence Latin America, and onto modernity. The study argues that Hispanic Orientalism does not necessarily imply a negative depiction of the Other, a quality associated with the traditional critique of Saidian Orientalism. Neither, does it entirely comply with the positivist approach suggested in the theoretical research of Said’s opponents, like Julia Kushigian. This dissertation also argues that sociopolitical changes and the shift in the discourse of powers, from imperial to non-imperial, had a significant impact of the development of Hispanic Orientalism, shaping the relationship with the Other. The methodology involves close reading of representative texts depicting the interactions of the dominant and dominated societies from each of the four historic periods that coincided with significant sociopolitical transformations in Hispanic society. Through an intercultural approach to literary studies, social history, and religious studies, this project develops an original paradigm of Hispanic Orientalism, derived from the image of the reinvented Semitic Other portrayed in the literary works depicting the relationship between the hegemonic and the subaltern cultures during the Reconquest period in Spain. Then, it traces the turn of the original paradigm towards reinterpretation during its transatlantic migration to Latin America through the analysis of the chronicles and travelogs of the first colonizers and explorers. During the transitional late colonial and early Independence periods Latin America sees a significant change in the discourse of powers, and Hispanic Orientalism reflects this oscillation between the past and the present therough the works of the Latin American authors from the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries. Finally, once the non-imperial discourse of power established itself in the former Colony, a new modern stage in the development of Hispanic Orientalist paradigm takes place. It is marked by the desire to differentiate itself from the O(o)thers, as manifested in the works of the representatives of Modernism and the Boom.

Spanish Migration in Contemporary Spanish Literature and Film

Arzac, Sergio 08 1900 (has links)
Spain underwent drastic social and political changes in the last decades of the twentieth century which also affected the nation’s patterns of emigration. Contemporary Spanish literature and film that portray these decades reflect the country’s fluctuating characteristics of migration. ¡Vente a Alemania, Pepe! (1971) by Pedro Lazaga, Coto vedado (1985) by Juan Goytisolo, El hijo del acordeonista (2003) by Bernardo Atxaga, and Yoyes (2000) by Helena Taberna demonstrate Spain’s migration trends during the last years of Franco’s dictatorship and the transition to democracy. The nation’s highly increased socioeconomic development in the 1970s and 1980s which eventually led to a first-world status also affected emigration, which can be seen in Carlota Fainberg (1999) by Antonio Muñoz Molina, Kasbah (2000) by Mariano Barroso, Restos de carmine (1999) by Juan Madrid, and Map of the Sounds of Tokyo (2009) by Isabel Coixet.

Elena Jordi y el Mito de Thais

Mele Ballesteros, Irene 01 January 2013 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis studies the impact of the work of Elena Jordi during the first Spanish avant-garde period (1890-1920) and the relationship between the myth of Thaïs and her homonymous film released in 1918. Here I track the trajectory of her career from its beginnings to culmination, when she directed Thaïs while leading an innovative vaudeville theatre company. The first chapter discusses the activity of Jordi as a Catalan actress, and woman entrepreneur in vaudeville. It analyzes the effect of the introduction of foreign vaudevilles on the reception of her work by critics through the theorization of Herni Gidel´s on vaudeville as genre. The second chapter reviews the cinematographic work of Jordi and situates it within the context of Catalan cinema´s early development as Spain´s first woman film director. After reflecting about the possible cultural influences that informed Jordi’s Thaïs, I explore the literary origins of the Legend of the Saint, an hagiography of Greek origins, and review relevant literary, operatic, and cinematic productions that incorporated this myth during the early Spanish avant-garde period. My conclusion highlights the original and similar features of Elena Jordi and Thaïs in their respective fields and different manifestations, simultaneously placing Jordi’s Thaïs in dialogue with the myth´s resurrection and its impact on the avant-garde feminist milieu. This demonstrates the formative influence of both Jordi as a pioneering artist and the enduring cultural influence of the myth of Thais on twentieth-century cultural production.
