Factors Associated with and Differences in Job Satisfaction between Community, Institutional, and Specialty Pharmacists

Farber, Charles D., Rice, Michael H. January 2008 (has links)
Class of 2008 Abstract / Objectives: To determine whether community, institutional, or specialty pharmacists have greater job satisfaction and what factors were most positively associated with job satisfaction. Methods: A prospective study was performed by distributing a 47-item online questionnaire to a listserv of 6,700 pharmacists’ email addresses. Respondents completed the questionnaire by following the instructions provided in an invitation email. Results: Questionnaires were completed by 273 participants (mean age [SD] = 42.85 [11.90]). Ninety- seven (35.5%) participants classified themselves as community pharmacists, 90 (33.0%) classified themselves as institutional pharmacists, and 86 (31.5%) classified themselves as specialty pharmacists. All pharmacists reported mean satisfaction scores above 2.5, indicating they were satisfied in their jobs. However, specialty pharmacists were more optimistic than community pharmacists about the prospect of remaining in their current practice setting for the rest of their working lives (p < .05). Perceived utilization of skills was the factor most associated with job satisfaction (p < .001). Conclusions: Job satisfaction was directly related to pharmacists’ perceived utilization of skills. Community, institutional, and specialty pharmacists had comparable job satisfaction, with specialty pharmacists having a higher level of agreement that they would enjoy spending the rest of their careers in their current job compared to those in community practice.

Wheying up the Options: How do Geographical Indications used in the European Union Influence New Zealand Speciality Cheese?

Schmutsch, Kirsty R January 2012 (has links)
Global food production, supply chains, and food quality are coming under increasing scrutiny by consumers, environmentalists and governments. Particularly in developed countries, there is growing awareness among consumers about food origins and environmental practices. There are increasing concerns over animal welfare and protection and due to food scares in the late 1990’s, and more recently contamination issues from additives within supply chains and food borne illness outbreaks in Europe. It is no surprise then that food safety and traceability matters have become an issue of public and governmental concern. There is much debate currently about globalisation of the international trade of food commodities. There is also a growing awareness about and changing attitudes towards the provenance of consumers’ food sources. This dichotomy provides the background argument to this thesis. Europe has long been considered the home of finely crafted cheeses and this thesis aims to examine how the use of Geographical Indications (GI’s) by the European Union (EU) can influence New Zealand made speciality cheeses. The EU system of GI’s and the protection of specialised food and agricultural products has enabled companies to build strong reputations in the global marketplace and also within the internal market in order to charge premium prices for these protected products. The vast majority of the world’s GI foods are located in Europe. This thesis aims to argue that while there is not an official system for the control of labels of origin for the names of speciality cheeses in New Zealand, they are used nonetheless. These labels of location are used to denote certain qualities, production methods or guarantee and differ from standardised, commoditised cheeses. This thesis discusses the use of GI’s in the cheese industry as a way for New Zealand cheese producers to create product differentiation and as a means of communicating product quality through provenance branding. This thesis uses qualitative research methods to gauge industry opinion regarding the nature of the speciality cheese industry in New Zealand in order to better understand the reasons for naming speciality cheese products and how European cheeses have influenced them. Findings indicate that naming and influences for these products are varied and complex, but have been ultimately influenced by European cheeses. For New Zealand cheese companies GI’s are used as a means to differentiate products from competitors.

Forensiese maatskaplike werk as spesialiteitsrigting : 'n verkennende studie / C.J. Jacobs

Jacobs, Catharina Jacoba January 2007 (has links)
This study explored the question whether forensic social work meets the requirements set by the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) for registration as a specialist field. The requirements are as follows: • It should be an identifiable and definable field in social work. • It should not be a form of intervention. • It should include a distinctive field of social work and not be shared with other professions. • It requires specialized knowledge, skills and experience from the social worker. It has been concluded that forensic social work does indeed meet the requirements for registration and it is recommended that it be registered as such. / Thesis (M.A. (MW Forensic))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2009.

Abstract: Introduction: This study involves the physiotherapeutic treatment of the knee osteoarthritis (OA) one of the most prevalent diseases of the elderly, although it could be present in people of any age, mainly women with more than 45 years. Osteoarthritis is a disease that involves the joint structures, mainly the articular cartilage from the synovial joints, such as knee, hip, column, hands and feet. The patients complain of pain, stiffness and edema. The sprouting of this disease can be influenced by some factors including race, genetics, hormones, deformities, traumas and many others. The physiotherapy has some therapeutic modalities to diminish the symptoms of the OA of knee, among them the transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation, the ultrasound, flexibility and the isometrics exercises, which had been used in this study. The objective of this study was to determine which of these physiotherapeutic treatments was more efficient for pain, articular stiffness and range of movement (ROM) in the treatment of the OA of knees. Material and Methods: Sixty female patients were selected, with age above of 45 years with diagnosis of OA of the knee. They were randomized in three groups of twenty people for each modality of treatment. Pain was assessed using the visual analogical scale (VAS). We also analyzed the resistance test "six minute walking and the questionnaire "Womac Osteoarthritis Index" was used in order to verify the patients quality of life Results: All the treatments used were efficacious and the patients with OA of the knees presented reduction of pain, improvement of the articular stiffness, of the ROM, reduction of the weight, improvement in the six minute walking and better quality of life for their daily activities. Discussion: There was no statistical difference among groups, except that group EX revealed better performance in the WOMAC questionnaire, in the all domain, suggesting that the inclusion of US or TENS in the treatment of OA of the knees was not necessary. / Mestrado / Mestre em Clinica Medica
