Educators' understanding of their roles at a school of skillsEksteen, Truter 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MEd (Specialised Education))--University of Stellenbosch, 2009. / The site for the study is a Western Cape school for industry that became a school of skills in 1999. According to the S.A. National Association for Specialised Education (SANASE) (2001:1), a school of skills, also referred to as a special school, caters for intellectually mildly disabled learners (IMD learners) who are characterised by their poor scholastic abilities in reading, writing and arithmetic skills, low self-esteem, poor self-concept, lack of motivation to study and their inability to cope with academically orientated work. These would be learners who were previously in mainstream schools but whose learning difficulties resulted in their being placed at special schools.
These learners pose particular challenges to their school environments, and teachers who work with such special needs learners require specialised training to equip them for their tasks. Teachers at schools of skills, however, generally have no additional training. This study had as focus teachers' understanding of their roles at a school of skills. This study uses an ecosystemic approach within an interpretive research framework to obtain in-depth data on teachers' understanding of the learners' learning needs and the concomitant challenges to classroom learning and their teaching. It also explored teachers' interpretations of their professional positioning amidst the demands posed by an outcomes-based curriculum.
The study found that, despite ongoing in-service training initiatives, teachers insist that they need learner-specific guidance as they were incapable of providing suitable learning to their learners. They believe that their learners will need life-long learning support. Such beliefs create barriers to successful learning and can also marginalize learners, preventing them from being part of the mainstream of community life. The study found that the successful implementation of inclusive classroom learning is left largely to teachers' personal initiative. Although some teachers achieved positive results, the majority of teachers at the site failed to provide successful learning. It seems that learning success at schools of skill is dependent on positive teacher expectations of learners learning.

Sexualité et handicap mental : enquête sur le traitement social de la sexualité des personnes désignées comme « handicapées mentales » en France et en Suisse / Sexuality and Intellectual Disability : the Social Construction of the Sexuality of People Labelled as « Intellectually Disabled » in France and SwitzerlandNayak, Lucie 01 July 2014 (has links)
The subject of this dissertation is to study the social construction of the sexuality of people labelled as « intellectually disabled » in Switzerland and in France by means of a qualitative survey realized through interviews with persons considered as « intellectually disabled », parents, specialized educators and sexual assistants.A first part deals with the analysis of the representations of persons labelled as « intellectually disabled » regarding sexuality and with bringing to light the forms of their sexual life, often commented but still unexplored. The second part aims at analyzing the institutional and parental representations and practices towards the sexuality of people considered as « intellectually disabled » in the current context of « sexual health ». Finally, the third part of this dissertation studies the recent activity of sexual assistance in Switzerland.By mobilizing intellectual disability and sexuality together, this research aims at analyzing how the different categories of actors implied in accompanying « intellectually disabled» people in their sexuality co-build the norms that govern their sexual life. It aims at proposing a complete study of the social treatment of their sexuality and the logics that underlie them.

L'enseignement de mal voyants en France et en Tunisie : de la défiance visuelle au déficit pédagogique : le cas de l'enseignement des mathématiques à l'école / Education for the partially sighted in France and in Tunisia : from visual impairment to pedagogical shortcomings : the case of teaching Math in elementary schoolBen Tourkia, Slim 28 February 2018 (has links)
Teaching the BVI (Blind and Visually Impaired) is the foundation of their learning and integration in both school and society, and is based on policies implemented in various countries. In France and in other countries, integration policies, in an open and specialized setting, are formed for the BVI. Field studies in France and in Tunisia show that with specific media and materials, the BVI were able to learn Math, thus concretizing these integration policies.

Previous issue date: 2007-09-18 / This document analyzes the possibilities and limits of the specialized educational support service in order to build an inclusive school . Currently, when it is mentioned school Inclusion, it is possible to evaluate in the theorist studies and also in the national and international laws, two differ tendencies: whole inclusion and on-going services. The specialized educational support service is included in both proposals but there are different nuances. The research has looked to establish a parallel between the concepts that basis those proposals and the specialized educational support service in the city of São Bernardo. It is about a Case Study of ethnographic kind. The research procedures adopted were the participant observation, document analyzes, forms filled and interviews with itinerant teachers invited. That Study was developed at São Bernardo do Campo municipal schools that have resources room and those teachers are habilitated in the mental deficiency special education. Those teachers work for the first four years (fundamental education) of the São Bernardo municipal schools. It was concluded that the specialized support service in São Bernardo do Campo is offered from the perspective of on-going services. In this case, the students from common classrooms, in general, are able to adapt for what have been offered, and do not require structural curricular changes. Itinerant teachers should contribute in order to help the student adaptation for what have been established. Even in this case, it is possible to consider as possibilities for those teachers, their contribution for the access and permanency of students that were historically excluded from the regular education.(AU) / Este trabalho investiga as possibilidades e os limites do serviço de apoio educacional especializado na construção de uma escola inclusiva. Previous issue date: 2013-12-12 / Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos / The work developed by specialized teachers, in Multifunctional Resource Rooms with students of special education is still unknown. The Multifunctional Resource Rooms are being implemented in public schools throughout Brazil. In order to produce knowledge about this topic, we investigated what specialized teachers who work at Multifunctional Resource Rooms publish on their blogs about the work performed in these rooms, and the experiences related to this service. Blogs were chosen as the data source, as blogs allow the common citizen to be a participative witness, in other words, people can publish texts without an editor. In this perspective, the problem of this study is configured from the following questions: Considering the Public Policies are recent, what have the specialized teachers published about specialized educational service on the internet? What is their perception considering this service? Is it possible to find out the practices of these teachers through blogs? This research aimed to describe and analyze through Text Semiotics what teachers who work with special education publish on their personal blogs and how they construct images of themselves and of the multifunctional resource rooms. The specific objectives were (a) identify on the teacher‟s discourse the experiences which have been evidenced in the educational specialized services; (b) analyze how are the practices directed to the issue of inclusive education in Brazilian education, in multifunctional resource rooms. Tem texts written by Brazilian specialized teachers were analyzed from the discursive level of Text Semiotics. The following categories were analyzed: space described in the text; actors and actants , time of enunciation; figures (concrete elements on the text ) and themes (abstract elements inferred from the figures). It was concluded that the image constructed by these teachers is hero and agents of change of multifunctional resource rooms, as this service depends on their actions to work. From the signs which are on the teacher‟s discourse, it is observed that they have internalized the policies discourse, and the teaching work in multifunctional resource rooms is predominantly focused on the student.

AVALIAÇÃO EM EDUCAÇÃO ESPECIAL: TECNOLOGIA DE GOVERNAMENTO NO ATENDIMENTO EDUCACIONAL ESPECIALIZADO / ASSESSMENT IN SPECIAL EDUCATION: TECHNOLOGY OF GOVERNMENT OF EDUCATIONAL SERVICE SPECIALISTRios, Grasiela Maria Silva 26 April 2013 (has links)
This study is part of the Research Line Special Education Program Graduate Education. Its guiding question to understand what effects the discourse on assessment are brought into service by Care Specialized Education - AEE, in the conduct of conduct of teachers AEE in Florianópolis - SC. This undertaking investigative inserts into a post-structuralism approach, in which I use the lens Foucault, specifically addressing the concept of governmentality tool. The corpus of empirical research is composed of two groups of materials: documents related to legislation and evaluation reports of students served and followed the AEE, prepared by the teachers care. After the analysis of the laws, I could understand that the evaluation is produced as a possibility for identification, investigation and diagnostic categorization of the subjects of the deviation and as a mechanism of control and regulation of the conduct of the student by the teacher AEE, making students and ways of teaching performance. Then to understand how the assessment is operating driving conduct faculty, through the analysis of 194 evaluation reports produced by the teachers of the AEE in Florianopolis. Recurrences discursive found, indicate three analytical categories: "Need to diagnose / schedule and meet: Strategy driven to lead as a teacher of the AEE", "Need to standardize: teaching practices in front of the student AEE" and "Need convincing: The search for the family as a partner for the state government and learner control deviation in inclusive schools ". It was possible to show that the search for the diagnosis turns on the need for standardization as a strategy to regulate the discipline and control of risk on these subjects deviating from the norm. Finally, we have the embodiment of a relationship 'more government under government' for everyone to be and remain in school, in an order consistent with the neoliberal rationality and security policies related to education, brokered with the discourses of human rights in order to convince everyone in mobilizing for inclusion to happen.

Dynamique d'évolution de graphes de cooccurrences lexicales : application à l'analyse de comptes rendus en prévention spécialisée entre 1972 et 2010 / Dynamic changes of lexical coocurrences graphs : application to the analysis of reports in specialized prevention between 1972 and 2010Dion, Dominique 19 December 2012 (has links)
These last ten years, the study of small-world networks indicated a great stability of certain metrics from the theory of informal graphs. It is about the analysis of networks illustrating man's activities : networks of phone conversations, air connections, web browsing, linguistic vocabularies structure, but also epidemics' spreading or social relations networks. However, few studies focused on the analysis of these graphs' dynamics and their evolution over time. It is this approach that we develop in this document. We will take an interest in graphs obtained from professional reports of social workers. These graphs model the cooccurrences of words within sentences. Our analysis focuses on a professional vocabulary and on the evolution of its use in a period of time of almost 40 years. After our material was produced out of written texts (around 1500 typewritten pages), this corpus of studies has been quantified, checked, homogenized and orthographically dealt with on a semi-automatic mode. Then, this normalized corpus led to the formation of a global graph for the entire period, and of around forty graphs for each of the subperiod under study. Thus the analysis of graphs dynamics changes focuses on a professional vocabulary. Finally, our work enables us to highlight the existing paradox, on one hand, between the writing obligation linked to an object which only changes a tiny bit in the nature of its mission (the work of a street educator), and on the other hand, the permissiveness of oral language that keeps evolving/changing (the professional language). Besides, our approach suggests a certain automation to release the crux of a “ professional saying” in a report's corpus.
