Subsidizing criteria and its impact on cultural and sports organizations in Stockholm

Martinez, Carlos, Skersyte, Vaiva January 2016 (has links)
In this study we are going to analyse the criteria, on which Stockholm’s Municipality distribute public grants to cultural and sport organizations. Public funding is very importantfor many organisations, and even it is necessary for survival for some of the organisations. Although previous studies give some criticism for the criteria of the public funding. It is claimed that these criteria are not clear enough, or might have an impact on the activities in organisations. In order to achieve most objective results, we have used a qualitative research method, by interviewing representatives from cultural and sports sector. Study reviews the existing criteria of the local administrations in Stockholm for concession of financial support to the different organizations active in the field of culture and sports. Using as an argument the testimonies of the same actors involved in these areas, the study tries to find out the effects of those criteria on both social activities. During this study, new institutional theories, concerning legitimacy, decoupling and isomorphism, were used. The results of this study shows that the criteria are quite different for different types of organisations. They affect one organization and the other in a very different way. For cultural organizations the criteria havea direct effect, determining their future activities and projects. Although, for sportsorganizations the influence of the criteria is more an administrative routine that must becarried out, according to established standards.

Redovisning i ideella idrottsföreningar : Hur ser de ekonomiansvariga på sitt arbete? / Accounting in non-profit sports organizations

Borgstrand Blixt, Malin, Wiklund, Sofia January 2019 (has links)
The Swedish sports movement has developed from sporting among common folks and amateurs to a more commercial and professional movement. The work of improving nonprofit accounting has been focused on since there are rising concerns about the quality of the accounting. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the bookkeepers experience working with the accounting, and on this basis, discuss possible causes as to why non-profit sports organizations’ accounting varies in quality. The study has been conducted through eight qualitative interviews. The participants were six representatives from non-profit sports organizations and two representatives of a District Federation from the Swedish Sport Confederation. Our study indicates that the bookkeepers find the accounting time consuming. This could be a sign that the scope of this kind of accounting has grown. This growth might further affect the quality of the accounting due to an increasing lack of time, which in turn could possibly lead to the accounting produced by a non-profit sports association not fulfilling the qualitative characteristics.

Managing Stakeholders’ Expectations of CSR : A qualitative interview study of Allsvenskan

Andersson, Albin, Chau, Tobias January 2023 (has links)
Abstract Background: The increasing professionalization of sports clubs has led to a shift in their objectives to include social responsibility in addition to sporting success. The change is due to the demand from society for organizations to contribute back to society and the need for clubs to maintain authentic relationships within their communities. Swedish elite football clubs are no exception, as they engage in socially responsible activities contributing to Swedish society. The clubs' shared practices can be explained by institutional isomorphism, a core concept within institutional theory. Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to explore how stakeholders' expectations concerning CSR are managed within Swedish elite football clubs and what incentivizes the clubs to conduct CSR. The thesis will provide an understanding of how CSR is conducted and illuminate current management practices between organizations and stakeholders. Method: A qualitative interview study has been conducted with the support of secondary sources such as websites and documents. Purposive and snowball sampling has been applied to acquire relevant interview participants. The thesis utilized thematic analysis to arrive at meaningful and rich conclusions. Conclusion: The conclusion states that managing stakeholder expectations in CSR requires involving them in the process and considering their feedback and demands. The incentives for CSR include stakeholder pressures and a desire to contribute to society. Communication, information sharing, and collaboration are crucial in managing relationships between organizations and stakeholders.

Legrand, Claude 03 November 2010 (has links)
The thesis aims at studying the strategy of sports clubs through their evolution in the competitive hierarchy. It is based in part on discussion of the contributions of the stakeholder theory, leadership and theory of conventions to propose an analytical model of the strategic dynamics of a club and a typology of strategic configurations. In second part, the thesis confronts this model to a longitudinal study of three basketball clubs on forty years. The three cases allow to analyze four types of strategic configurations : growth, consolidation, redeployment, safeguard. The results of the thesis reveal four types of trajectory corresponding to the succession of different strategic configurations. The inflection points occur when strategy does not achieve the desired effects. The strategic trajectory, sports result oriented, characterizes the strategic dynamics of a club by the sequence of configurations over time.

It suggests a governance pattern model for sports entities that can increase their effectiveness in a context which the sport is relevant to the State and society. The making of this thesis is a result of wide data collection, gathered from several sources. By means of a qualitative approach, the author seeked the best possible information as well as a growing awareness on the theme. This was facilitated by the his involvement with the subject, as he has managed the direction of a Sports Federation since 2005 – Vice President of Rio de Janeiro Sailing Federation during 2005-2010, and President of the same organization during 2011-2012. Here, the key Stakeholders in sport are identified and then the parameters for good governance are presented in the following areas: regulation, results, professionalism, transparency and participation. The solution proposed helps to offer more transparency and control over sports organizations, by creating an instrumental rationality which best meets the objective interests of all Stakeholders.

"We cannot shy away from a defeat" - Examining How Sports Organizations and Fans Communicate After a Defeat on Social Media in the Swedish Hockey League

Pynnönen, Teemu January 2018 (has links)
This dissertation explored how sports organizations approach the communication of a defeat on social media from the perspective of organizational image management. Furthermore, this study sought to identify how sports fans react to a defeat on social media and what kind of implications fan reactions have on the organizational image management process. The sports industry has some unique characteristics compared to other commercial industries. The overall success of sports organizations is to a great extent dependent on the on-field performances of the team and the coherence of the fan community. The image of sports organizations is likewise dependent on the combination of on-field performances and how the fan community perceives the organization. Sports fans have a strong psychological connection to their favorite team. The strong attachment to a sports organization results commonly in biased evaluations of their favorite team. This dissertation examines how this dynamic unfolds in an online media environment using a customized theoretical framework that combines organizational image management theory and social identity theory. The research strategy in this dissertation consisted of a case study of six sports organizations in the Swedish Hockey League and their fans. Empirical data was collected through six interviews with communication specialists employed by the teams and by sampling comments written by fans on the teams’ Facebook pages on posts about defeats. The findings show that sports organizations in the SHL have a desire to appear honest in their approach to communicating a defeat on social media. This desire encompasses a straightforward approach to communicating a defeat on social media to their fans, making the organization to resemble a credible disseminator of information to key stakeholders in online environments. Furthermore, through the strong psychological connection to their favorite team, fans were found to have a role in the image maintenance process on social media after a defeat. Fans took mainly two different stances on social media after a defeat and were found to both hinder and aid the image management process after a defeat.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Leonardo Souza Santana.pdf: 1684678 bytes, checksum: 0be5c8bc0a4e8a8d4d542ef79ce58693 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-04-28 / This study described the characteristics of the formation and evolution of the shared vision of management teams of four third sector sports organizations. Shared vision is understood as the mental image shared by a group of individuals facing a desired future condition to be achieved. The theoretical framework of this study covered concepts related to shared vision and managerial conversation of management teams in the context of the management of small sports organizations in the Third Sector. The methodological approach was descriptive and based on qualitative research methods and the multicaso study (Yin, 2015; Eisenhardt, 1989b; Lima, 2010). The data were collected through in-depth interviews. This analysis included steps of intracause and intercaso analysis, according to the recommendations of Miles and Huberman (1994) and Lima (2010), in order to present the relationship between variables through schemas and representative tables to organize and provide greater clarity to the data of the search. For better analysis of the data, the Atlas-ti software was used in order to obtain a greater depth and level of detail of the study. The analyzes reveal that the formation and evolution of the common vision of the steering teams are fed by shared NEV (new elements of vision). These are generated in the subjectivity of the steering team members under the influence of FI (influence factors). The "strategic conversation", the "way of being", the "individual images", the "shared magens" and "the individual vision" are the most important FI to explain the phenomenon studied in all POETS cases.
