Development of an automated capacitor discharge welding system

Patnaik, Srinivas M. 09 September 1996 (has links)
Automation of Capacitor Discharge Welding (CDW) has not been investigated in industry due to the limited understanding of the process. The US Department of Energy's Albany Research Center (ALRC) has done an extensive study of the process and reported applications of welds in the manufacture of electro-mechanical products such as relays and circuit-breakers. The main purpose of this work was to investigate automation of the load/unload cycle of CDW. An automatic CDW machine was built with real-time quality monitoring capabilities. Tooling and fixtures were fabricated for joining silver to brass components used in a circuit breaker assembly. A machine controller was used to automatically sequence the process and the actuators. Computer-based instrumentation was developed for on-line data acquisition and quality monitoring of the weld. This demonstrational setup shows that the equipment can be compact and the process can be easily automated for high production rates. The automation architecture developed can be used as a general model for automating CDW operations in other environments. The automated CDW system was tested by welding silver contacts to brass brackets at different parameter settings. Metallographic examination of the resultant capacitor discharge (CD) welds (made by the automated CDW system) revealed the formation of continuous metallurgical bonds between silver and brass. A comparison of CD welds made by the manual and the automated system was performed to determine the effect of CDW automation on weld quality. The welds were also found to be superior to resistance welds. / Graduation date: 1997

EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF BEHAVIOUR AND STRENGTH OF SHEAR STUDS IN COMPOSITE BRIDGE DECK CONSTRUCTION

Alkhatib, Ammar 30 November 2012 (has links)
Cast-in-place concrete in composite with steel sections is commonly used in bridge deck constructions. The shear transfer between the concrete and steel section is achieved by shear connectors and the strength calculation of conventional shear connectors, i.e. shear studs, is provided in various design codes in North America. Due to the fact that the strength equation is largely based on experimental results, the applicability of the equation is only warranted where the design matches the experimental configuration of the test specimens. Thus, the codes specify detailing requirement for the stud height and the elevation of the reinforcement mesh in relation to the stud height. However, these requirements, in particular, the elevation of the reinforcement mesh, may be difficult to meet accurately in construction practice. The implications of not meeting the mesh requirement to the strength of the shear stud and the remedy solutions are examined in this study. An experimental program involving the test of thirty-three push-out specimens was designed and conducted with a focus on the shear studs' performance. Testing parameters included reinforcement mesh position, shear stud height, presence of stud head, shear stud spacing, and steel flange surface treatment. In addition, the performance of a new type of shear studs, referred to as adjustable studs, was also studied experimentally. The ultimate load and load vs. slip curves were presented and discussed in the forms of tables and graphs. The failure modes were noted and the relationship between the failure modes and the ultimate capacity was discussed. Ultimate loads obtained from specimens were then used to assess the efficacy of code suggested values. Results showed that depending on the elevation of reinforcement mesh, three failure modes were observed including concrete related failure, combined concrete failure and bent studs and stud shear-off from the steel flange. The elevation of the reinforcement mesh had a significant effect on the ultimate load of the specimen. As the mesh elevation increased from intercepting the stud to being in flush with the top of the stud to above the stud, the ultimate load decreased. Specimens with unheaded shear studs had lower ultimate load than specimens with headed shear studs. Flange treatment had an impact on the ultimate load, where the coating on flanges resulted in a decrease in the ultimate load. Test results also showed that the close placement of the shear studs result in a reduction on the ultimate load when the other parameters were kept the same. In the comparison between conventional and adjustable shear studs, specimens with adjustable studs shared similar failure mode to those with conventional studs, but attained on average lower load capacity. The comparison with the code suggested values showed that the code suggested value is only ensured when double-layer reinforcement mesh is used and placed at code specified elevation. A single layer mesh intercepting the studs resulted in the ultimate load slightly lower than the code value. The code values for adjustable studs are markedly higher than the experimental value, which raises the question whether the code equation for conventional studs is directly transferrable to adjustable studs.

Soucit k sobě a stud u pacientů s úzkostnou poruchou / Self-compassion and shame in patients with anxiety disorder

Dvořáková, Marika January 2019 (has links)
Many researches deal with a wide range of cause of anxiety disorders, which may include various untreated traumas, physiological causes, cognitive distortion or learned reactions. Anxiety disorders tend to create so-called the vicious circle of stress and anxiety that closes the patients, leads them to social isolation and gradual loss of life certainty. Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental illness. Major types are introduced in the thesis and they are connected with the concepts of self- compassion, shame-proneness and guilt-proneness, which have been studied abroad in recent years. The research part then brings the results of the role of self-compassion, shame- proneness and guilt-proneness in experiencing clinical anxiety, confirming the assumption that patients suffering from anxiety show a significantly lower level of self- compassion, a higher shame-proneness and internalized shame. Guilt-proneness does not show a relation with self-compassion. Details are discoussed. Key words: anxiety self-compassion shame internalized shame guilt

Kompozitinių plienbetoninių sijų su plieniniais plaušais armuotu betonu elgsenos tyrimas / Analysis of behaviour of composite steel and steel fiber reinforced concrete beams

Timinskas, Edgaras 09 July 2009 (has links)
In the world composite steel-concrete structures are widely used, and their features are complex and not fully investigated. VÝZNAMNÉ RODINY ČESKÉHO TEPLOKREVNÍKA NETOLICKÉHO CHOVU / APLICATION OF MARES FROM NETOLICE STUD IN THE CZECH WARMBLOOD BREEDING

KONVALINKOVÁ, Veronika January 2011 (has links)
This thesis presents with analysis of significant blood-lines from Czech Warm-blooded horse Netolice breed. The purpose of this thesis is to identity the Netolice breed from the population of the Czech warm-blooded horses, analyze the breeding structure of the population of mares and present an overview of the exterior features, sport performance and present an evaluation of broodmares fertility. The data was taken from the Breeding documentation of the Czech Warm-blooded horse Union and from surviving records of breeding kept in stud Netolice. Data and results were processed in MS Excel. Indicators of 799 mares were observed and classified intro thirty families of Netolice. From the total number of listed mares in the statistical ensemble, only 401 are still alive. It is evident from results that The Netolice families still exist in the Czech Warm-blooded horse breeding as its important part. Between the mares born in Netolice stud and the mares born outside of it, statistically significant differences in the formation of the exterior were found, mainly in the index of cardinality and boniness.
