Milk: From a healthy drink to aclimate threat and back again. The media story : A text analysis of how Swedish newspapers have framed aspects of milk between 2012 and 2017

Sonesson, Matilda, Thörner, Oliver January 2018 (has links)
Media is a powerful agent within society, that works as a gatekeeper for the media arena and therefore decides what topics are discussed and which are not (Pinto et al., 2016; Anderson, 2009) By setting the agenda and by framing messages, media can influence the public perception and therefor also the culture within society. However, it is said that media will reflect the most dominant culture within society, it is therefore of interest to see how the Swedish media portray and frame Swedish milk and the milk industry, that on hand is argued to be a threat towards the climate but on the other hand has a long history of being connected to the Swedish culture. When studying the four most read newspapers in Sweden published between 2012 and 2017 we found that even if the Swedish milk and the milk industry was questioned for being unhealthy or argued for being an environmental threat, the positive framing of milk was always more visible. Environmental impacts of milk and the milk industry was repeatedly downsized and even spoken for in opposite direction, that the Swedish milk and the Swedish milk industry is good for the environment. This would suggest that the strong position of milk within the Swedish society have the ability to undermine any threat, it is therefor of interest to further study the culture aspects of media framing not at least connected to products that is in many studies argued for being an environmental threat. Due to impact media may have on the society, how media frame and portray sustainability and sustainable products is of high interest for further research. More research is also needed to understand who gets to use the media arena to convey their messages, not at least within the topic of sustainability.

Åkerström, Ylva January 2006 (has links)
This research shows and analyses how pupils in ninth grade in the nine-year compulsory school look at being multilingual, at the Swedish language and at Swedish as a second language. I also want to know if language and culture knowledge are taken care of in school as it says in official documents for the Swedish school and as it also is desired in an intercultural education. For my research I do eight interviews in a suburb school south of Stockholm. My work includes a limited account for the current research about being multilingual, Swedish as a second language and about the close relationship between language and culture. The applied theory is a social constructivist theory which in short can be explained like that we construct social structures that have consequences on the individual as well as on the society. I show in my research how the view of the world around the pupils influences their view on their languages, their school and their neighbourhood. I also draw conclusions from my interviews that language knowledge is little appreciated in school and that Swedish as a second language has a low status.

The Partisan Reporter : A study of the news reporting on the American race issue by Sven Öste, 1963-71

Brundin, Oskar January 2021 (has links)
This thesis presents how the American race issue was depicted in Sweden during the 1960s until the early 1970s by studying the work of Sven Öste in Dagens Nyheter. Sven Öste was Dagens Nyheter’s Washington correspondent between 1963-1966 and 1968-1971, where he did prize winning reporting on the Vietnam war and covered the American race issue. Previous research has shown that the race issue was one of the key factors that changed Sweden’s perception of America. Despite this, there is a lack of research on how the American race issue was depicted or discussed in Sweden. This is important to remedy. Providing an understanding of how the American race issue was depicted will improve our knowledge of the Swedish image of America at this time. I will explore how Öste wrote about the Black liberation movement, the white resistance and how we are to understand his reporting. The results show that Öste contributed to a negative image of America through his reporting on the race issue. Öste supported the Black liberation movement, as shown through his emotional and moral writings. Furthermore, Öste compared the race issue to the struggles in the Third World, which contributed to the negative image of America. In doing this, Öste became a transnational actor. With these results, new insight is provided into how the American race issue was depicted in Sweden.

Karlsson, Maria January 2018 (has links)
Bakgrunden ligger i Sveriges varumärke, nation brand.

Anita: The Story of a Bad Film : The cultural life of Torgny Wickman’s 1973 sex film

Carter, Jason January 2023 (has links)
Anita  (Torgny Wickman 1973) is a typical example of a film produced as part of a wave of Swedish softcore sex films created with an eye on the substantial overseas profits to be made in market curious to witness onscreen Swedish Sin.  Following an extremely brief and limited release in Sweden the film disappeared from popular cultural perception until resurfacing in the late 1990s as an object of nostalgic cult curiosity.  Taking cues from New Cinema History disciplinary methods, cult theory and touching on theories of the dispositif, this thesis maps the manner in which Anita is popularly and academically regarded as a text throughout differently delineated eras of its lifespan. By drawing on its appearance in film listings, popular press, national press and fanzines, and through its various releases and restoration this work builds to an understanding of how uses of this text move from populist via nostalgia through cult to historical canon, and the way in which these uses offer new perspectives on Swedish film history.

Risk Management in Construction Projects : A Knowledge Management Perspective from Swedish Contractors

Petrovic, Dario January 2017 (has links)
Projects within the construction sector is characterized as fragmented, temporary and complex which inherently brings upon risk exposure. Decision makers within the industry need reliant access to information and knowledge in order to manage risks in a sufficient and systematic way. Thus, the implementation of an effective risk management in relation to managing associated project risk knowledge may facilitate successful construction project endeavors.  The purpose of this master thesis is to explore and evaluate project risk management within the Swedish construction industry, with the emphasis on the perspective of Swedish contractors. The aim is to examine the recognition and practical adoption of risk management in order to investigate how project knowledge is utilized in the process. The methodology consists of a literature review on risk management fundamentals, the diverse risk attitudes and knowledge management in relation to risk. Data collection and analysis are based on a mixed method approach in which conclusions are made in relation to theoretical groundwork. The empirical data is collected through the usage of an online survey and in-depth semi structured interviews with key professionals within the Swedish construction industry. The results from this research indicate that theoretical models and processes for risk management is fairly unknown within the industry, analogous methods are used within respective organizations but the sharing of definitions and concepts within the industry are absent and the methods are not as structured as described in risk management theory. However, findings suggest that the perception of actors within the industry regarding risk and the risk management process is one of high importance for obtaining project objectives. Furthermore, findings indicate that the interplay between knowledge- and risk management and the incorporation of these processes is underutilized among the contractors and developers.

Med idrotten in i kunskapssamhället

Enehag, Peter January 2006 (has links)
Abstract. In Sweden today, a collaboration was formed between the Swedish Sport Confederation andthe Swedish upper secondary school education. While this process was taking place, theSwedish Sport Confederation also tried to collaborate with the Swedish Academy. However,at the time the Academy did not have any involvement with the former. The purpose of the study was to research when and how the Swedish Sport Confederationcreated a collaboration with the Swedish Education Systems both on a National and Locallevel. I have also done a research on both the Knowledge Society and Elite sport talents tofind out if Elite sport will be affected in any way because of the existence of Knowledge Society, and also the reactions of the sports talents if any. My final pursuit was also to find out ifthe Knowledge Society can bring about a quick change to this silent conflict between theSwedish Sport Confederation and the Swedish Academy. For my study, I have used two different theories. One of the first sociological theories, whichwere applied with sports, was the reflection theory, and I wonder whether this theory is stillapplicable in todays society. The other theory was the reproduction theory. This theoryoriginated from the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieus key concepts. I have decided to useBourdieus key concepts in my study for understanding the battles between the Swedish SportConfederation and the Swedish Academy. The result of my study shows that sport talents on the local level in Malmoe are in agreement, that it is important to pursue further studies to the academic level, which means that the reflectiontheory can be used in todays society. Malmoe is one of the fastest growing cities, concerning the Knowledge Society, and therefore its a perfect example to this theory. With regards to the sports battle in the academic field, one can see a similar pattern, which isprevalent in the Swedish Academy, is now being followed by the upper secondary schooleducation. Through projects and agreements, elite sport has managed to position themselvesin the academic field, however they are in the periphery of the field. Prestigious universities inSweden still do not want to be involved with elite sport.

A Qualitative Study of Swedish Muslim Female Converts and Becoming 'the Other'"

Aldala, Tasneem January 2023 (has links)
In this analysis, the aim is to investigate the embodiment and transmission of identity among Swedish female converts to Islam. The examination centers on the position these women occupy in both Swedish society and the Muslim community, and whether they experience a state of “in-betweenness” due to identity conflicts. The focus is also on how Swedish female converts, who are ethnically Swedish, can become perceived as “the Other” within their own society, rooted in concepts of “Swedishness”. Assessing the position of Muslim female converts in Sweden is crucial as they frequently confront prejudiced attitudes and discrimination from both Swedish society and the Muslim community. Simultaneously, they may be considered “traitors” by Swedish society due to their conversion to Islam, resulting in a complex identity conflict where these women find themselves situated between cultures and societies. Hence, finding themselves in a position of “in-betweenness”. This essay endeavors to shed light on the difficulties and opportunities that Swedish Muslim female converts encounter, as well as to examine how they navigate their identity in a Swedish context and how they undergo a transformation from being “part of the majority” to “the Other”.

The Misleading Debate

Larsson, Mikael January 2014 (has links)
In the year of 2013, Swedish media accused the Swedish police for the implementation of discriminatory internal controls of foreigners, in Malmö, Stockholm and other places across Sweden. The controls were soon to be linked to project REVA. In this thesis, I examine how the internal controls of foreigners measure up to the Swedish Aliens act and whether or not the accusations of discriminatory controls against individuals with a perceived foreign appearance, are correct. The examination includes a legal approach, where I use practical legal method to analyze the provisions of the Aliens act, as well as an evolving conceptual approach, where I evolve the concept of discrimination in order to apply it to the controls. I found that it is possible to link project REVA to the external work with the internal controls of foreigners, despite the denial from people involved. I also found that, because of unclear regulations regarding the implementation of the internal controls of foreigners, it is not possible to assess how the controls measure up to the Swedish Aliens act. Some of the controls, most probably, can be identified as directly and indirectly discriminatory. The problem with this statement is the difficulty to measure police officers decision-making in order to confirm the discriminatory behavior. However, I argue that it is possible to claim that the Aliens act might be indirectly discriminatory. The results of this thesis indicate that the Swedish police should review their practices regarding internal controls of foreigners.

Multinational Enterprises' Implementation of Corporate Culture : A qualitative study on the challenges and strategies for Swedish MNEs implementing corporate culture into their foreign subsidiaries.

Lindh, Moa, Solberg, Karin January 2024 (has links)
Background: Businesses are increasingly expanding their businesses globally, evolving into multinational enterprises. Managers within MNEs extensively use corporate culture to maintain a unified organization and guarantee them more control over their subsidiaries. Nevertheless, MNE’s subsidiaries are also embedded in their own national culture, which might differ from the corporate and national culture of the company. Swedish corporate and national culture differs extensively from other countries, which may result in Swedish MNEs encountering several challenges when aiming to implement their corporate culture within their subsidiaries. Consequently, different strategies are employed with the aim of an effective implementation process.    Purpose: The purpose of this study is to enhance comprehension regarding Swedish multinational enterprises’ implementation process of their corporate culture within their subsidiaries abroad. It will provide a deeper understanding of strategies Swedish MNEs employ during this process and investigate how the Swedish corporate culture might hinder the process of implementation.    Method: This study is based on the relativism and social constructionism paradigm and is conducted through qualitative research with semi-structured interviews with eight different Swedish Multinational Enterprises. In addition, an inductive approach is employed, seeking to find new information and perspectives among the data, given the varied experiences among the interview subjects.    Conclusion: The empirical findings present three new challenges and seven new strategies regarding Swedish MNEs implementing their corporate culture in foreign subsidiaries. The challenges regard resistance against Swedish businesses overall, subsidiaries unwilling to change their corporate culture, as well as difficulties in understanding the Swedish corporate culture. The strategies regard trust-building initiatives, leadership education, education in cultural differences, Swedish leaders in subsidiaries, meetings to ensure alignment and understanding, physical meetings, and mobile and flexible leaders.
