This study discusses how the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, which adopts an open source model, affects its readers¡¦ trust and related behaviors. The open editing format that every internet users can be an editor on the Wikipeidia arouse contiguous criticism for the knowledge accuracy and authority. The purpose of this research is to study the attitudes and usage intention of general Internet users for an online encyclopedia such as Wikipedia. We integrate trust, technology acceptance model (TAM), and content rating as the theory framework. It is of interest to approach why people would adopt Wikipedia as a knowledge resource and how they trust in it. In addition, we add the content rating as a moderator in the research model in order to verify whether the rating system on the Wikipedia would enhance trust or usage intention for readers.
This study proposes a quasi-experiment with college students as the subjects. Those students have to complete a task before they answer a questionnaire that is to reflect their attitudes and usage intention for the Wikipedia. After the statistic analysis and research discussion, we are able to verify the proposed theory framework and provide the interpretation for the results. The results show that there are relationships between trust and TAM. Among the constructs, the Perceved Usefulness has more direct influence toward use intention. This appears people would consider the Perceved Usefulness for first important element judging for adopting Wikipedia or not. The content rating of Wikipedia would effectively moderate the relatonships between trust and use intention. When the content rating situation exists, readers of Wikipedia would increase their intention through trust of Wikipedia.
For the managerial implication, the research findings can provide a reason why internet users trust the web site and how they will use it. The web site designers or operators should emphasize on enhancing features that would improve its accountability and credibility.

Local to Mobile Devices for Nuclear OperationsLee, Gladys 26 June 2014 (has links)
The AECL National Research Universal (NRU) reactor has implemented a new mobile device to help Operators collect instrument data. Instruments display readings through various analog and digital devices. Before the change, Operators collected readings via a paper and pen method. With the implementation of the mobile device, Operators scan a barcode and input the instrument’s reading using a mobile device. To understand the factors that influence Operator acceptance of the new technology, the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was used to identify determinants that have the biggest impact on the Operators’ intention to use the mobile device. The TAM results identified the determinants that were most influential and the mobile interface was redesigned, based on the TAM results. Once the interfaces were redesigned they were evaluated through a usability study that compared the original interface with the newly designed screens. The results did not show statistically significant differences between the screens.

RFID integrated systems in libraries: extending TAM model for empirically examining the useKapoor, K., Dwivedi, Y.K., Piercy, N.C., Lal, B., Weerakkody, Vishanth J.P. January 2014 (has links)
No / The available literature suggest that the research on radio frequency identification (RFID)-related issues is largely concentrated on technical, organizational and implementation aspects, and comparatively lesser attention has been invested in understanding the use aspect of such library management systems. The purpose of this paper is to gain an understanding into the factors that influence the use of RFID systems in the library context by empirically testing the relevant constructs from the extended technology acceptance model (TAM). A questionnaire-based survey approach was employed for collecting the relevant data from 197 respondents. The respondents were the active users of a RFID-based library system. Findings from this study suggested that perceived usefulness and system quality positively influence the user attitude, and user attitude and system quality significantly influence the use of the RFID services. The paper concludes with outlining the salient points, limitations, and future research directions. The paper evaluates the role of a set of innovation attributes on the acceptance of RFID integrated systems in libraries. Owing to the scant literature availability in empirical investigations on adoption of RFID systems in libraries, the findings from this paper add value to the existing literature in this field, and also to the literature on the TAM model, with the empirical findings being of use to the aspirant libraries looking toward integrating RFID enabled systems.

Perceptions and attitudes with regard to teleworking among public sector officials in Pretoria: applying the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM)Langa, GZ, Conradie, DP 01 January 2003 (has links)
Abstract
The research described in this article can be described as an explorative study that focused on
obtaining and analysing perceptions and attitudes of public sector officials in Pretoria regarding the
possible introduction of teleworking in their working environment. The term teleworking was understood
in the sense of using computers to work from home or working at a distance away from the
office. The research question that was posed was: What perceptions and attitudes exist among
public sector officials in Pretoria that could contribute to, or impede, the acceptance of teleworking
in South African government departments? Specific attention was given to perceptions of possible
benefits or other impacts of teleworking, indications of public sector officials' ability to use computers
for teleworking purposes, attitudes toward computers and teleworking, and the behavioural
intention to use teleworking in future. The questionnaire and results were structured along the lines of
the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) of Davis. It was found that there was firm support among
the officials for public sector teieworking - especially in terms of those views and perceptions that
served as indicators for relevant TAM constructs such as 'perceived ease of use regarding teleworking',
'perceived usefulness of teleworking', 'attitude toward teleworking' and 'intention to use
teleworking'.

Employee¡¦s Acceptance of Intranet Implementation ¡ÐA Case StudyChang, Hong-chang 21 May 2004 (has links)
The development of information technology (IT) has made a very different prospect in business administration. Today, more and more companies introduce intranet system to establish internal network. Since the intranet system is really costly, companies should make assessment prudently before and after the investment, but the approaches are extremely limited. This study is to assess system success through employee¡¦s acceptance by exploring the components influence his attitude and behavior.
This study uses ¡¦the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology¡¦ (known as UTAUT) with some measures modified from the viewpoint of large size manufacturing company and concerning models (TAM and TAM2). 436 samples were taken from more than 8600 employees by stratified random sampling. The major findings are (1) there are 5 key components extracted: Usefulness, Ease of Use, Enjoyment, Social Influence, and Facilitating Condition, (2) the Usefulness and Facilitating Condition influence employee¡¦s behavior intention significantly while Ease of Use enhances the Usage directly, (3) Usefulness is the most important factor of all for employee¡¦s acceptance.

Examining adoption of mobile internet in Saudi Arabia: Extending TAM with perceived enjoyment, innovativeness and trustAlalwan, A.A., Baabdullah, A.M., Rana, Nripendra P., Tamilmani, Kuttimani, Dwivedi, Y.K. 11 February 2020 (has links)
Yes / Mobile internet represents a breakthrough technology that has derived much attention from mobile organizations and services providers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).1 However, the level of acceptance of mobile internet in the KSA is still below the level of ambition. This is in addition to the fact that there is a considerable need to discover the main factors shaping Saudi customers' intention and adoption of such a mobile system. For this reason, this study is conducted in the hope of providing further understanding about the adoption of mobile internet in the KSA. The extension version of Technology Acceptance Model TAM2 with perceived enjoyment was adopted as a theoretical foundation of the current study model. This was expanded by considering two additional factors: innovativeness and trust. The main empirical data collected through questionnaires was analysed using structural equation modelling (SEM).3 Perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment, trust, and innovativeness are statistically supported to have a significant impact on the Saudi customer intention to adopt mobile internet. Further discussion regarding the main contribution as well as research limitations and future directions are presented at the end of this paper.
