Under an interdisciplinary perspective, the survey was conducted at the State Penitentiary in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná State, by obtaining data on primary sources as the identification records of prisoners and meanings of tattoos, bibliographic sources, participant observation and interviews semi-dirigidas. In this criminal unit, 64% of the prisoners who meet in closed regime have tattoo and we see that the people arrested "choose" their tattoos and their symbols conditioned by criminal involvement. In this way, the use of tattooing in this context indicates belonging to the group, identifying with the criminal activity, marginalization by the stigma, but also strengthening of the affective links with family members. Tattooed symbols differ from used out of prison, as it differs the quality of tattoo held in prison, without the materials, techniques and skills desirable. Although the tattoo is today a "cultural phenomenon", in many cases it even configures stigma, because it represents an identification code of "criminal", mainly for public safety professionals. / Esta dissertação tem como objetivo buscar a compreensão da tatuagem na prisão e os desdobramentos da tatuagem como forma de expressão, identificação e pertencimento individual e grupal neste contexto estigmatizante e marginalizante. Sob uma perspectiva interdisciplinar, a pesquisa foi realizada na Penitenciária Estadual de Foz do Iguaçu, Estado do Paraná, através da obtenção de dados em fontes primárias como consultas a prontuários de identificação dos presos e manuais de significados de tatuagens, em fontes bibliográficas, observação participante e realização de entrevistas semi-dirigidas. Nesta unidade penal, 64% dos presos que cumprem pena em regime fechado possuem tatuagem e verificamos que as pessoas presas escolhem suas tatuagens e seus símbolos condicionadas pelo envolvimento criminal. Deste modo, o uso da tatuagem nesse contexto indica pertencimento ao grupo, identificação com a atividade criminosa, marginalização pelo estigma, mas também reforço dos vínculos afetivos com familiares. Os símbolos tatuados se diferenciam dos usados fora da prisão, como difere a qualidade da tatuagem realizada na prisão, sem os materiais, técnicas e habilidades desejáveis. Embora a tatuagem seja na contemporaneidade um fenômeno cultural , em muitos casos ela ainda configura estigma, pois representa um código de identificação do criminoso , principalmente para os profissionais da segurança pública.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / A presente pesquisa em psicanálise parte da indagação sobre o que leva um jovem a se marcar intencionalmente na pele, através de tatuagens. Ao lado da inscrição cultural com suas produções de pertencimento, a pesquisa formulará uma sistematização teórica e investigativa sobre a realidade psíquica dos jovens que se tatuam. A concepção do corpo, seus significados através de alguns discursos científicos estará contemplado no estudo. No entanto, é a representação psíquica que será problematizada no âmbito da teoria psicanalítica. A escritura na pele será enfatizada também em relação à exclusividade do amor materno através de freqüentes casos de jovens que se tatuam com frases escritas na pele invocando o amor só de mãe. Cabe a indagação sobre a qualidade desta relação, tentando confrontar o caráter factual e mítico na relação do sujeito com a mãe. Através da escuta, a partir de depoimentos colhidos de forma livre, foram entrevistados 7 jovens, entre 16 e 18 anos, originados de classe social baixa e pertencentes a instituições não governamentais que desenvolvem programa de inclusão social, e governamentais destinadas a vigilância da proteção integral do jovem em conformidade com o Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente. O mecanismo psíquico subjacente ao ato de marcar o corpo revela um importante caminho para compreensão do sujeito frente a questões indissociáveis da existência humana. Entre estar em situação de risco social e produzir riscos na pele, surge uma fronteira, borda, que faz circular os discursos atestando a condição de existência do desamparo e o apelo de uma proteção / This research project, referred into psycho-analytical theory, departs from the questioning of what takes a youth to intentionally mark his/her skin with tattoos and similar signs. On the side of the culture inscription with its productions of belonging, the research project will formulate a theorical and investigative systematization about the psychic reality of the youths that have themselves tattooed. The body conception will be contemplated in the study, in meanings through the differents cientific views and its meanings. However it is the psychic representation that will be the problematic in the field of the psycho-analytical theory. Its proper to question the conception of the subject and the language, taking into consideration the languages dimension steped on the body through phrases and symbols exposed to the others eyes. The mark on the skin will be also emphasized in relation to the exclusivity of the maternal love through frequent cases of youths that have themselves tattooed with sentences written in their skin invoking that real love just the mothers. Its proper to question about the quality of this relation, trying to confront the factual and mythical character in the subjects relation with his/her mother. O corpo humano é um dos espaços primordiais utilizados para a impressão e a narração de sentido: o uso do corpo foi importante, em todos os tempos, como instrumento simbólico e narrativa cultural. Entre as muitas práticas de utilização do corpo está a tatuagem: modo de se inscrever desenhos sob a pele. Na sociedade contemporânea, o fenômeno do consumo se apresenta como poderosa instância de fornecimento de sentido e classificação, operando em todos os espaços sociais, especialmente através da comunicação de massa. Relacionar corpo, consumo e comunicação pode ser portanto uma estratégia positiva para o estudo da relação entre sociedade e sentido. O que acontece quando unimos corpo, consumo, tatuagem e publicidade? Esta dissertação investiga a prática da tatuagem de marcas de produtos e/ou empresas na pele, como forma de operação socializante e individualizante - um interessante caminho para a compreensão das relações sociais promovidas pelo consumo e pelo corpo em nossa sociedade contemporânea. / [en] The human being cannot deal with chaos - being afraid of all that cannot be controlled (either at technical or symbolic level). To ensure a sense of wellbeing, there is a need to attribute meaning to things, facts and people. The human body is one of the primary spaces used for the impression and narrative of meaning: the use of the body has been relevant, throughout time, as a symbolic instrument and cultural narrative. Tattoo - the practice of inscribing images on the skin - is among the many practices of body use. In contemporary society, the phenomenon of consumption is one of the most powerful areas of social classification and attribution of meaning: it operates in all social spaces, mainly through mass communication. A positive strategy for the study of the relationships between society and meaning may be to relate the human body, consumption and communication. What happens when we relate the body, consumption, advertising and tattoo? This dissertation investigates the practice of tattooing product and/or company brands on the skin, as a strategy for individualization and socialization - an interesting pathway towards the comprehension of the social relations provided by consumption and the body in our present society.

Partindo de uma abordagem qualitativa e descritiva em relação aos objetivos pretendidos, a pesquisa visa abordar, com uma perspectiva inter e multidisciplinar, o movimento da informação em uma sociedade totalmente dinâmica articulada com outros elementos informacionais, corroborando para a criação da tatuagem. Foi preciso ampliar o entendimento sobre a linguagem representada pela imagem tatuada ao conteúdo informacional semântico e estético. Para tanto, desvenda-se, neste estudo, o corpo humano como suporte da informação, a percepção da informação, e, a partir de então, se visa adquirir o esclarecimento necessário para alcançar a compreensão da informação social proposta por Erving Goffman. Apresenta-se histórico sobre a tatuagem, possibilidades e justificativas sobre seu uso. Utilizou-se a entrevista para a coleta de dados junto a 13 sujeitos tatuados. A análise do discurso teve o fito de averiguar as respostas e considerar a percepção que os sujeitos têm a partir das enunciações tatuadas em sua pele. A pesquisa demonstrou que a tatuagem se revela como um conjunto de informação articulado com aspectos vividos e sociais, uma obra de arte, e constatou a existência do preconceito em torno dessa “arte em pele”. Dessa forma, a pesquisa teve como intenção ampliar o estudo do objeto informação para além de suportes convencionais e assim fortalecer a consolidação da Ciência da Informação. / Abstract: This research provided an advertisement through photography from cognoscing subjects. Starting from a qualitative and descriptive approach in relation to the intended objectives, a visa research, an inter and multidisciplinary perspective, the information movement in a totally dynamic society articulated with other informational elements, corroborating for a creation of the tattoo. It was necessary to broaden the understanding of a language represented by the tattooed image to the semantic and aesthetic informational content. An interview was used to collect data from 13 tattooed subjects. An analysis of the discourse with the aim of ascertaining how responses and considerations about perception and subjects from the enunciations tattooed on their skin. One research has shown that a tattoo is revealed as a set of information articulated with living and social actions, a work of art, and found the existence of the prejudice around "art on the skin." In this way, the research had the intention to extend the study of the informative document in addition to conventional supports and to assimilate a consolidation of the Information Science.

[pt] Partindo de um olhar comunicacional e uma leitura da antropologia das emoções, a tese trata as potências de sentido dos corpos, com olhar especial voltado para aqueles ressignificados com tatuagens. A partir da investigação com sujeitos que têm marcas sobre viagens e cidades expostas em suas peles, discutimos as relações dos indivíduos com os lugares e os efeitos dessas experiências, trazendo à tona reflexões sobre trânsitos, sentimentos e representações. Exploramos as ressonâncias dos contatos com os espaços urbanos e as vivências de deslocamento, a fim de compreender a ressignificação do corpo para uma expressão do sensível, dando ênfase aos contornos da memória e entendendo que as tatuagens têm poder de representar afetos. Isso também é possível por uma transformação nos valores atribuídos aos sinais gravados nas camadas da derme. A pesquisa é qualitativa, descritiva e é alicerçada em trabalho de campo, no qual foram feitas quinze entrevistas compreensivas, todas gravadas em formato audiovisual. Os contrastes entre a revisão teórica e os materiais coletados são elaborados por meio de uma análise interpretativa do conteúdo, organizada em conjuntos e categorias. Assim, observamos os significados contemporaneamente atrelados às modificações corporais e, de modo especial, como o corpo se torna um meio para manifestação das identidades e para registro das afetividades atreladas às viagens e às cidades. / [en] From a communicational perspective and a reading of the anthropology of emotions, this thesis deals with the powers of meaning of the bodies with a special focus on those which are resignified with tattoos. Through the investigation with individuals who have marks about trips and cities exposed on their skins, we discuss their relationships with the places and the effects of these experiences, bringing up reflections on transits, feelings and representations. We explore the resonances of the contacts with urban spaces and the displacement experiences, in order to understand the resignification of the body to an expression of the sensitive, emphasizing the contours of the memory and understanding that tattoos have the power to represent affections. This is also possible through a transformation in the values, which are attributed to the engraved signs on the layers of the dermis. The research is qualitative, descriptive and is based on fieldwork, through which fifteen comprehensive interviews were conducted, all of them recorded in audiovisual format. The contrasts between the theoretical review and the collected materials are elaborated through an interpretative analysis of the content, which is organized into groups and categories. Thus, we observe the meanings currently linked to body changes and, in a special way, how the body becomes a vehicle for the manifestation of the identities and for recording of the affectivities which are linked to the trips and the cities.
