[en] THE TRAVEL AND WRITING: REFLECTION ABOUT THE TRAVELS IMPORTANCE IN THE INTELLECTUAL GRADUATION AND PRODUCTION WRITER-TRAVELLERS / [pt] A VIAGEM E A ESCRITA: UMA REFLEXÃO SOBRE A IMPORTÂNCIA DA VIAGEM NA FORMAÇÃO E PRODUÇÃO INTELECTUAL DE ESCRITORES-VIAJANTES BRASILEIROS

CLAUDETE DAFLON DOS SANTOS 27 February 2003 (has links)
[en] This work discusses how the study of the relation between writing and travelling can be a privileged viewpoint to analyse the upbringing and the intellectual production of some Brazilian traveller-writers, who travelled in the late nineteenth-century and early twentieth. Taking into consideration the existence of different ways of travelling, this work deals with the theoretical proposition of two separate traveller-lineages, whose ideas about travelling, different from one another, were to achieve momentous repercussion in writing. These are Nabucos lineage and the modernists. In the former, the explicit preference for European culture would take their adepts both as intellectuals and travellers to cross the Atlantic in order to verify the cultural supremacy of the Old World; in the latter, they would break away from the subservient cultural model prevalent at that time; thus verification led to discovery. The path leading from verifying to discovering was subordinated to the purpose of creating a Brazilian cultural tradition that would justify the definitive inclusion of Brazil in the map of traveller- writers.

[en] THE NOMAD DICTIONARY: A CARTOGRAPHY OF INTERMEZZO / [pt] DICIONÁRIO NÔMADE: UMA CARTOGRAFIA DO INTERMEZZO

CARLOS ANDREAS DE ARAUJO SHELLARD 16 June 2015 (has links)
[en] This work aims to elaborate reflections about the various aspects and modulations of the concept and practice of nomadism, relating them to travel in the contemporary world. An eight months trip, undertaken by the author in 2011 in some countries in Africa and Asia, serves as a foundation to the work. Impressions, personal experiences and events will be discussed and contrasted with quotes by travelers, explorers, novelists, historians and poets. Interspersing these, there will be theoretical formulations of authors such as Deleuze and Guattari, in Treatise on Nomadology, Michel Onfray in Theory of Travel , and Maffesoli in About Nomadism.

[en] A GUIDED TOUR THROUGH MURILO MENDES GEOGRAPHICAL LETTERS / [pt] VISITA GUIADA PELAS CARTAS GEOGRÁFICAS DE MURILO MENDES

ANDRÉ LUIZ DE FREITAS DIAS 30 May 2017 (has links)
[en] From the perspective of travel writing, we propose to investigate the procedures used by Murilo Mendes in Carta Geográfica (Geographic Letter), and along with this, study the strategies of the poet, his drawings of maps and letters, regarding the displacement of texts and their relations with the body of the work. Amongst other issues, when dealing with Carta Geográfica, we have to deal with its incompleteness and imperfections - in the Portuguese sense of inacabado/unfinished, as observed by Luciana Stegagno Picchio, in a comment to the notes and variants of the edition of his complete poetry and prose. Picchio also says that Carta geográfica will remain as a scrapbook, a book of notes and leftovers. An immediate effect of this is to renew interest for this book, because it indicates that collage and scripts were used as strategies, procedures so dear to Murilo Mendes. A significant interest for his work in prose can be explained by the memorialist character of these texts. Many readings have been made based on archive theories and self writings; however, our intention is to read Carta Geográfica as a cartography of desires, using navigation strategies that should, in a way, function as intertextual messages in bottles which are thrown out to the sea during the dynamics of guided tours.

[en] FROM THE VOYAGE TO THE MUSEUMS AND ITS JOURNAL ENTRIES: IMAGES OF BRAZIL IN THE NARRATIVE OF CARL VON KOSERITZ (1883-1885) / [pt] DA VIAGEM AOS MUSEUS E SEUS RELATOS: IMAGENS DO BRASIL NA NARRATIVA DE CARL VON KOSERITZ (1883-1885)

MARIA DE SIMONE FERREIRA 26 January 2010 (has links)
[en] This dissertation aims to analyze the travel narrative in Images of Brazil, a book by Carl von Koseritz, a German citizen who acquired Brazilian nationality, starting from his visits to the civilizing institutions located in the Brazilian Imperial Court in the year 1883. The work sets an analogy between the traveler as a collector and between his book as an exhibition in a way that, when selecting and collecting the images of the Empire in the city of Rio de Janeiro, von Koseritz would form a fragmented collection of impressions of Brazil that would lately be shared and exposed to his reading public through the organization of these journal entries in a narrative similar to that of an exhibition. The dissertation focuses mainly on the journal entries regarding the visits to museums, specifically to the Imperial and National Museum and to the Pedagogical Exhibition, which will allow us to investigate how the voyage and the writing of von Koseritz create an identity for the author and his readers by means of these exemplary institutions that synthesize and radiate to the rest of the country the political project of construction of the Imperial State based on the ideals of civilization, progress, and order.

[en] AQUI O MAR ACABA E A TERRA PRINCIPIA: THE PLACE ANNOUNCES ITSELF IN A JANGADA DE PEDRA / [pt] AQUI O MAR ACABA E A TERRA PRINCIPIA: O LUGAR QUE SE REVELA EM A JANGADA DE PEDRA

MARIA CRISTINA CHAVES DE CARVALHO 07 August 2006 (has links)
Neste cantar épico, José Saramago busca premiar, numa ilha imaginária, heróis anônimos - personagens sensíveis que, vogando no Oceano Atlântico, encontram o amor, possível mediante o conhecimento do próprio corpo e do espaço ibérico. / [en] In the present thesis, an analytic reading of the novel A Jangada de Pedra is included so as to provide a deep study on the aesthetics of a fictional story which, regarding the tradition of Iberian navigators creates a magic voyage in which the land itself wanders on the seas: a land which floats with its walking heroes. In this utopian space, the hope on this unpredictable future is renewed. Promoting a dialogue between fiction and history, the author presents an ideological project, including the uneasiness the Iberian culture and the political and social context from that age bring him, according to the approval or the refusal of the Peninsula in the European Union. José Saramago threw himself into this epic mood in order to honour, in an imaginary island, anonymous heroes - sensitive characters who, drifting in the Atlantic Ocean, find love, just possible by means of acknowledgement of their own bodies and the Iberian environment.

[en] IN THE COUNTRY OF FICTION: TRAVEL AND NARRATIVE IN BRAZILIAN AND ARGENTINE CONTEMPORARY LITERATURE. / [pt] NO PAÍS DA FICÇÃO: NARRATIVA E VIAGEM NA LITERATURA BRASILEIRA E ARGENTINA CONTEMPORÂNEAS.

RENATA FERNANDES MAGDALENO 12 July 2011 (has links)
[en] The travel texts are a mark for the history of Latin America, and, consequently, the literature and the writers from there. This work analyses if the travel still a recurring theme in contemporary latin america literature. In this narratives the displacement and the mobility are relevant characteristics, that some thinkers consider as a brand of the contemporanity. The latin american writers feel it in a diferent way? It is still possible to detected remnants and legacies of the tradition of travel accounts in contemporary production? To think about that, four fictionalized travel diaries were analyses, from brazilian and argentine writers: Una luna, from Martín Caparrós; Nove noites, from Bernardo Carvalho; Mis dos mundos, from Sergio Chejfec, and Lorde, from João Gilberto Noll. In all of them the character seems like the author of the book, and go to other countries in a work travel. Like many travel texts that marks the latin america, there is an other that estimulate the displacement. The construction of a writer figure, the place of the latin america writer in the contemporary world are some recurring themes of those narratives.

[pt] O DIÁRIO DO QUARUP: ANTONIO CALLADO E O XINGU / [en] THE QUARUP DIARIES: ANTONIO CALLADO AND XINGU

GUILHERME CORREA DE FREITAS 08 August 2022 (has links)
[en] The central object of this thesis is the diary of Antonio Callado s trip to the Xingu region in July 1956, a document discovered during research in the writer s archives at Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa. On that occasion, at the service of the Correio da Manhã newspaper, Callado witnessed for the first time the quarup, a Xingu ritual to honor the dead that, in the following decade, would appear as one of the central images of his novel Quarup (1967). Based on the diary, the thesis reconstructs the 1956 trip, placing it within the broader framework of the relationship that Callado maintained for decades with the Xingu, and investigates his role in the campaign for the Xingu Indigenous Park, created in 1961, a highlight of his lifelong militancy in defense of indigenous rights. In addition, it compares the diary with the article he published on the ritual and with the novel Quarup, analyzing central aspects of his work, such as the relationship between travel and writing and the productive transit between journalism and fiction. Finally, in a diary kept by the author of the thesis during a trip to the Xingu, it discusses the impasses in the representation of indigenous peoples and cultures by non-indigenous intellectuals.

[pt] AS VIAGENS E AS CIDADES NO CORPO: UM ESTUDO SOBRE TATUAGENS, REPRESENTAÇÕES E AFETOS / [en] TRIPS AND CITIES ON THE BODY: A STUDY ON TATTOOS, REPRESENTATIONS AND AFFECTIONS

LUCAS GAMONAL BARRA DE ALMEIDA 14 September 2020 (has links)
[en] From a communicational perspective and a reading of the anthropology of emotions, this thesis deals with the powers of meaning of the bodies with a special focus on those which are resignified with tattoos. Through the investigation with individuals who have marks about trips and cities exposed on their skins, we discuss their relationships with the places and the effects of these experiences, bringing up reflections on transits, feelings and representations. We explore the resonances of the contacts with urban spaces and the displacement experiences, in order to understand the resignification of the body to an expression of the sensitive, emphasizing the contours of the memory and understanding that tattoos have the power to represent affections. This is also possible through a transformation in the values, which are attributed to the engraved signs on the layers of the dermis. The research is qualitative, descriptive and is based on fieldwork, through which fifteen comprehensive interviews were conducted, all of them recorded in audiovisual format. The contrasts between the theoretical review and the collected materials are elaborated through an interpretative analysis of the content, which is organized into groups and categories. Thus, we observe the meanings currently linked to body changes and, in a special way, how the body becomes a vehicle for the manifestation of the identities and for recording of the affectivities which are linked to the trips and the cities.

[pt] FILOSOFIA E LITERATURA NO SERTÃO: A TRAVESSIA NO GRANDE SERTÃO: VEREDAS / [en] PHILOSOPHY AND LITERATURE IN THE BACKLANDS: ON TRAVELLING IN THE DEVIL TO PAY IN THE BACKLANDS

NINA TEIXEIRA RODRIGUES LIMA 21 November 2023 (has links)
[en] In the work The Devil to Pay in the Backlands written by Guimarães Rosa, the narration of a journey through the backlands hints at the privileged place that the notion of travelling occupies in this romance. From the relationship between philosophy and literature, this literary journey unfolds into a problem to be philosophically examined, because if, on the one hand, the Backlands of Rosa are not restricted to the regional reality of a deep Brazil, on the other hand, the journey also gains other proportions beyond a simple spatial displacement. Thus, the life of a Backlands man takes on universal proportions in this novel, demonstrating that travelling through the sertão is travelling the world and that the crossing narrated by the protagonist Riobaldo unfolds in a human journey.

ADRIANO FERREIRA ENNES 26 June 2015 (has links)
[en] This dissertation aims to investigate and define, taking into consideration the outbreak of the Eighteenth century Elinghtenment Subject crisis and the serious blow in the Western Reason, suffered in the postwar period, the concept of contemporary dystopia, since this can take various hues and tints. It also attempts to analyze how possible phenomena said dystopian : wandering, fragmentation, lack of universal values, gloom, inadequacy or maladjustment compared to pre-established standards, while triggering different modes of literary construction, appear registered in the narratives of Brazilian contemporary fiction, in particular, in two significant works of literature, namely : Solidão continental, by João Gilberto Noll, and Mongólia, by Bernardo Carvalho.
