Analyse spatio-temporelle d'un mouvement scientifique : l'exemple de la géographie théorique et quantitative européenne francophone / Spatio-temporal analysis of a scientific movement : the case of theoretical and quantitative geographyCuyala, Sylvain 20 October 2014 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to implement a spatio-temporal analysis of a scientific movement based on a sociological theory (Frickel, Gross, 2005), combined with spatial analysis. This combination constitutes the major contribution of the present work. For this analysis, the author has chosen as a subject the European French-speaking theoretical and quantitative geography, whose temporal evolution and spatial configuration remained largely unknown until now. The thesis uses two main kinds of materials: archival (Répertoire des géographes, journals, lists of communications of TQG colloquium) and memorial with 58 semi-structured interviews collected from a sample of actors of the movement. The analysis of the corpus combines quantitative methods (from graph theory to the analysis of geographical units’ specialization), and qualitative ones (thematic and semantic analysis of the corpus and interviews of actors). This investigation has allowed us to propose a periodization of the movement since its beginnings in the 1960’s organized around three main periods: 1. the emergence, from 1971-72 to 1984, involving a small number of actors and locations, and while individual researchers interact in order to give themselves a self training, 2. the Golden Age, from 1985 to the end of the 1990’s, marked by the formation of organized groups based on many interactions between French-speaking places in Europe, self reproducing and spreading. 3. The generalization of the knowledge core which is accompanied by a decline in identification with the movement, from the 2000’s to the present, according to many reconfigurations including the disappearance of certain historical centres.

Spacio-temporal analysis from air quality in urbvan streets by wireless sensor networks with node hosted on public transport buses.Santos, Alessandro Santiago dos 08 December 2017 (has links)
The vehicles in urban traffic are considered as the main cause of urban pollution with a direct impact on air quality, being a challenge to have monitoring tools that enable an overview of the environmental conditions influenced by vehicle emissions. One option is to instrument the entire city with low-cost fixed sensors to collect environmental data; however, to provide a comprehensive view would require a large number of sensors, and a constant increase to follow the growth of the city. In this scenario, arises the opportunity for urban bus instrumentation with sensors that measure the environmental pollution, to take advantage of the mobility characteristics of public transport, which moves in populated areas, with dynamic attitude of growth, adapting in a coherent way to population and geographic variability of the city. This PhD Thesis proposes the monitoring of air quality inside urban roads by Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), hosted on city buses. Thus, new ways of performing spatiotemporal analyzes of the air quality of urban regions are possible with the cartographic models created by this thesis. These allow to analyze mapped regions using spatial and temporal perspectives with information obtained from mobile sensor kits, for analyzes every 100 meters, promoting a resolution higher than the traditional monitoring models (kilometer scale), which still do not offer this possibility. This higher resolution allows a new perspective of analyzes of micro regions and, in this way, allows specialists or urban managers to have a better understanding of the urban scenario. Sensor kits are created to be hosted by bus, which has been validated and tested for its efficiency in measurement. This was integrated into a computational platform built to extract and process information with mathematical algorithms. All the components of the platform were validated with experiments that confirmed the hypotheses originally formulated for validation. Finally, mappings with more than 70,000 points were used in the creation of spatiotemporal models for the study of the case of regions of the city of São Paulo, which denoted the potentials constructed by this thesis.

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) as a tool for analysis and communications of multidimensional dataSivertun, Åke January 1993 (has links)
An integrating approach, including knowledge about whole systems of processes, is essential in order to reach both development and environmental protection goals. In this thesis Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are suggested as a tool to realise such integrated models. The main hypothesis in this work is that several natural technical and social systems that share a time-space can be compared and analysed in a GIS. My first objective was to analyze how GIS can support research, planning, and, more specifically, bring a broad scattering of competence together in an interdisciplinary process. In this process GIS was ivestigated as a tool to achieve models that give us a better overview of a problem, a better understanding for the processes involved, aid in foreseeing conflicts between interests, find ecological limits and assist in choosing countermeasures and monitor the result of different programs. The second objective concerns the requirement that models should be comparable and possible to include in other models and that they can be communicated to planners, politicians and the public. For this reason the possibilities to communicate the result and model components of multidimensional and multi-temporal data are investigated. Four examples on the possibilities and problems when using GIS in interdisciplinary studies are presented. In the examples, water plays a central role as a component in questions about development, management and environmental impact. The first articles focus on non-point source pollutants as a problem under growing attention when the big industrial and municipal point sources are brought under control. To manage non-point source pollutants, detailed knowledge about local conditions is required to facilitate precise advices on land use. To estimate the flow of metals and N(itrogen) in an area it is important to identify the soil moisture. Soil moisture changes over time but also significantly in the landscape according to several factors. Here a method is presented that calculate soil moisture over large areas. Man as a hydrologie factor has to be assessed to also understand the relative importance of anthropogen processes. To offer a supplement to direct measurements and add anthropogen factors, a GIS model is presented that takes soil-type, topography, vegetation, land-use, agricultural drainage and relative position in the watershed into account. A method to analyse and visualise development over time and space in the same model is presented in the last empirical study. The development of agricultural drainage can be discussed as a product of several forces here analyzed together and visualized with help of colour coded "Hyper pixels" and maps. Finally a discussion concerning the physiological and psychological possibilities to communicate multidimensional phenomena with the help of pictures and maps is held. The main conclusions in this theses are that GIS offer the possibilities to develop distributed models, e.g., models that calculate effects from a vide range of factors in larger areas and with a much higher spatial resolution than has been possible earlier. GIS also offer a possibility to integrate and communicate information from different disciplines to scientists, decision makers and the public. / <p>Diss. Marbled murrelet foraging ecology: spatial and temporal characteristics of habitat use in Clayoquot Sound, British Columbia.Muirhead, Kyle Andrew 17 December 2010 (has links)
The marbled murrelet (Brachyramphus marmoratus) is listed as threatened in both Canada and the United States due to logging of old-growth forest stands, their primary nesting habitat. Existing research is primarily focused on this terrestrial aspect of the species’ ecology. Our understanding of their at-sea foraging ecology, however, is limited to broad-scale studies of population abundance and dynamics. In order to further understand the spatial and temporal variations of marbled murrelet at-sea foraging behaviour and habitat use, bi-weekly surveys of marbled murrelets were conducted in Clayoquot Sound, BC, between May 1 and September 1, 2007 and 2008. Data were first analysed using a Getis-Ord Gi* spatial analysis to identify high-use foraging areas. Total marbled murrelet presence was consistent between years, but spatial distribution varied significantly in both years. A subsequent analysis of oceanic environmental variables found that temperature, salinity and phytoplankton densities (measured as chl a) were spatially ubiquitous, with no significant variation in measures across the study area. Chl a levels showed significant temporal variation, though similar trends in marbled murrelet abundance over time in both seasons suggest that phytoplankton levels do not directly affect murrelet presence. Marbled murrelets were also observed foraging within several metres of gray whales (Eschrictius robustus) feeding on epibenthic zooplankton in 2006 and 2008, a previously undocumented relationship. Join count statistics identified significant clustering of murrelets up to 300m from 39 feeding gray whales in 2006, and no association with 5 gray whales in 2008, marking a foraging association conditional on the abundance of both gray whales and their prey, but potentially significant to marbled murrelet survival and fecundity.

Previous issue date: 2013-03-12 / The analysis of the plant covering behavior on a temporal scale addresses practices that make forest remnant sustainability possible. The present study seeks to analyze the dynamics of the forest fragments in the hydrographic subbasin of the Alegre river, Espirito Santo state, based on the alterations of the plant covering and the structure of the forest landscape on a space-time scale, through two chapters. The first is based on the hypothesis that vegetation indexes can express similar vegetative or differentiated vigor of canopies of a specific area. To test the hypothesis, the objective was to to compare three vegetation indexes: TVI (Transformed Vegetation Index), CTVI (Corrected Transformed Vegetation Index) and RATIO (Ratio Vegetation Index), in relation to the behavior of NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), regarding the discrimination of the vegetative vigor, as well as the alterations in the forest cover between 1987 and 2010. Through the obtained results, it was verified that the vegetation indexes allowed to estimate the vegetative vigor of the plant covering. A 4.90% (NDVI) increase and one of 7.78% (TVI) of forest covering, a pasture reduction of 3.34% (NDVI) and 5.53% (TVI) and a reduction of nonvegetated areas of 5.93% (NDVI) and 3.35% (TVI), in the period between 1987 and 2010 were evidenced. The natural regeneration process might have been the decisive factor for the area increrease and the changes in the forest vegetation of the area. The second chapter was based on the hypotheses that:1) In the forest landscape the predominance of fragments of small area occured during the years studied (1975, 2002 and 2007); 2) there is a predominance of forest fragments with complex forms and with smaller central area; 3) The forest remnants are isolated and with a larger border area. Based on the above, the aim was to characterize the space and temporal evolution of the forest fragment structures using landscape ecology metrics applied in the years of 1975, 2002 and 2007; the structural analysis of the forest fragments was conducted contemplating area parameters, form, nucleus, border and proximity by size classes. Based on the obtained results, a 7% increase was verified in the total area of the forest covering with the appearance of 645 new fragments. The number of fragments increased and the area of contribution small, which implied in the high border/area ratio. The smallest fragments (< 1 ha.) presented simple geometric form in relation to the others. The largest forest fragments (> 20 ha.) were shown proximate, presenting a tendency towards reduction of the proximity measure values / A análise do comportamento da cobertura vegetal numa escala temporal direciona práticas que viabilizam a sustentabilidade dos remanescentes florestais.

ANÁLISE MULTITEMPORAL DO USO DA TERRA E COBERTURA FLORESTAL COM DADOS DOS SATÉLITES LANDSAT E ALOS / MULTITEMPORAL ANALYSIS OF LAND USE AND FOREST COVERAGE WITH DATA FROM LANDSAT AND ALOS SATELLITESTorres, Daniela Ricalde 29 July 2011 (has links)
Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / The monitoring of the use and coverage is very important when studying determined
regions, just because it helps knowing the environmental reality and contributes to
solve problems that can probably appear. This research was done from the images
of ALOS and LANDSAT satellites. Its main objective was to have a multi-temporal
analysis of Arroio Grande micro watershed, central region of Rio Grande do Sul. The
specific purposes were to identify and to quantify the different classes of land use
found in this micro watershed along the 1987, 1998, 2002, 2005, 2007 and 2009
periods, as well as cross the land use information to show the forest coverage
changes during the 22 years of analysis. The software SPRING 5.1.7 was employed
to classify the supervised images through Bhattacharya, a sorter algorithm, and the
map spatial analysis was done through the Spatial Language of Algebraic
Geoprocessing program with the same computational application. The classes of
land use as forest, field, agriculture, irrigated agriculture, exposed soil and water
layer were observed in the images of each year in this analysis. These classes were
utilized in the spatial analysis of the forest coverage in which forest monitoring
parameters have been defined (forest maintenance and regeneration, deforestation).
In this research the principal results that have been noticed were the increase of
17,98% on the distributed forest coverage, mainly in the areas of bigger declination,
and the reduction of 16,32% on the field area. The analysis of the spatial forest
coverage has presented stability with the landscape, in a gradual progression,
because the area of forest maintenance, found in these 22 years, was 12.252,60ha,
the forest regeneration was 4.389,12ha and only 1.853,82ha of deforested area.
A partir do

SIMULAÇÃO DINÂMICA DA SOJA, MILHO E FEIJÃO, CULTIVADO SOB DIFERENTES REGIMES HÍDRICOS / DYNAMIC SIMULATION OF SOYBEANS, CORN AND BEAN, GROWN UNDER DIFFERENT WATER REGIMESVivan, Gisele Aparecida 15 January 2014 (has links)
Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / Agribusiness has high importance in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, with the incorporation of fundamental importance to maintain its competitiveness and attractiveness factor technologies. Irrigation has become among the leading technologies available, featuring as main advantages to increase productivity and reduce risks associated with droughts. The determination of productive crop responses via simulation models has elevated in recent years, combining the agricultural sector the possibility of predictions about various scenarios, among these, water availability, reducing time and costs. In the same way, performing historical analyzes of production and profitability are essential for decision making related to incorporeal technologies in agricultural practice. This study aims to determine, via simulation models, productive responses of soybean, maize and beans, grown under different water regimes by performing temporal and risk analysis of the results obtained for the region of Santiago, RS. The study was conducted in the municipality of Santiago (29° 09 'S and 54 ° 51 ' O), with crops of soybeans, corn and beans, calibration and validation of models for these cultures in the DSSat system being performed, and subsequent evaluation and compared to the available models for soybean and beans in RSAP system. In the models considered fit after evaluation, sequences of climatic data (1961-2010) and certain productive responses related to growing conditions in rainfed and under great water conditions being held temporal and annual profitability analysis were included. The Cropgro - Soybean, Ceres-Maize - and Cropgro Drybean, framed models obtained performance as very good, very good and good for simulation of the production of grain (PG) of soybean, corn and beans, respectively, and great for simulation maximum production of dry matter (MSM) for all cultures. In comparison to the productive field responses versus models available in the DSSat system and RSAP, it was observed that for soybean and bean, the simulations obtained with the DSSat minor variations for soybeans, and RSAP for beans, however, both systems showed variations considered satisfactory. For historical simulations, the upland, the three studied crops (soybean, maize and beans), showed significant reductions in production and consequent income due to the drought. In both conditions of crops (dryland and irrigated) the higher costs, income and income were associated with maize, followed by soy beans. Comparing irrigated with dryland, the bean crop showed the greatest increases in profit complementation function of water, followed by corn and soybeans. Conclude that the simulation models were presented as useful tools for determining the yield response of crops under study, and compared with rainfed crops irrigated, the last were more interesting technically and economically.

Previous issue date: 2016-08-01 / FACEPE / CAPES / In Brazil, since 2000, approximately 50,000 people are murdered every year. In a span of 30
years (1980 – 2010), more than 1 million homicides were registered. In 2012, the homicide rate
in Brazil was 29 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants. All Brazilian states exceed the threshold
of epidemic established by World Health Organization. In this context, the present study has
the objective of to investigate homicides in Recife, taking into account temporal, spatial,
environmental, and multicriteria analysis. The temporal analysis shows that the difference of
homicides between seasons and months is not statistically significant. However, there is a
significant increase in homicides during the weekends (42 percent of all homicides) and
evenings (62 percent). Moreover, the spatial results show that the spatial patterns are different
within the temporal dimensions in many cases. The findings from spatial analysis reveal that
homicides are very concentrated in the city of Recife and in a time span of five years (20092013)
all the homicides occurred in less than 10 percent of the street segments. In addition, our
test showed that the spatial pattern was not stable over the years. However, when we consider
the temporal dimensions (as suggested by temporal analysis), the patterns were stable along the
years – except for weekdays and night/dawn. Furthermore, through the environmental analysis,
we found that inequality, rented houses, and number of residents have a positive relationship
with homicide. On the other hand, income, education, public illumination, population density,
and street network density have a negative relationship. The findings of these analyses indicate
that homicide in Recife can be understood by the perspective of social disorganization theory
and routine activity theory. Finally, multicriteria approach was applied to highlight vulnerable
areas to homicide in Recife. We considered six variables to evaluate vulnerability and the areas
were identified by PROMETHEE II method and local Moran’s I. Other application was made
in Boa Viagem neighborhood, so we were able to perform a more detailed analysis. Three
different approaches were tested for Boa Viagem and we suggested some actions in order to
reduce criminality in long term.
A análise

In the context of changing agricultural policy, the development of agricultural production systems, increasing concern for agricultural sustainability and shifts in agricultural land management practice-related land-use change, the main objective of this thesis was to mine crop sequence patterns (CSP) and the relationships between CSP and the biophysical and socio-technical-economic conditions in mainland France from historical census data (e.g. land-cover survey, agricultural censuses, population census). Our study period 1992-2003 covers the implementation period of the 1992 European Union Common Agricultural Policy reform and Agenda 2000 in France. Both the classical statistical and data mining technique were applied in alone or combined ways in this thesis. First, we proposed an innovative approach to representing CSP within a given area and period at a large regional scale in a stationary way. The 2549 3-year crop sequences (CSs) were first identified as major CSs within all 430 agricultural districts (ADs) in mainland France during this period. Next, 21 clusters of ADs , four types of cropping systems, 90 representative ADs and three principal planting zones of cereals, oilseeds, and protein crops belonging to five clusters identified previously were further defined. We then explored CSP in a dynamic way by investigating CSP after grassland-to-cropland conversion, the temporal variability of CSP, and the evolution of the relationships between CSP and the external conditions over the study period. We conclude that the approaches developed here permit the representation of CSP at the large regional scale in both stationary and dynamic ways using time series land-cover data denoting specific agricultural cover types. The findings of this thesis contribute to improving the understanding of the process and pattern of human land management practices by agriculture affecting the terrestrial biosphere
