The analysis considered the parameters temperature and relative humidity of the maximum and minimum air; Morphometric aspects, such as slope, hypsometry, orientation of the slopes; The different patterns of land use and occupation; The regional circulation. The morphometric information was obtained from the digital cartographic base model of the Urban Basic Digital Map of Goiânia (MUBDG, version 23) using ArcGis 10.1 software. The soil use and occupation pattern was obtained from the orthophoto image. The theoretical and methodological proposal was structured in the S.C.U (Urban Climate System), based on the Monteiro thermodynamic perception channel (1976). Air temperature and humidity data were obtained in situ and by means of secondary data provided by INMET (National Institute of Meteorology) from May to December 2016. In situ data were obtained from thermocouples (Datalogger) installed in (Sezarino and Monteiro, 1990b), with records every 15 minutes, distributed in densely urbanized sites and parks (Areião and Vaca Brava). The study area is located in the southern portion of Goiânia, due to the peculiar characteristics of a metropolis city. This research allowed to understand the spatial and temporal variation of the temperature and relative humidity of the air, being that the aspect of the seasonality is strongly identified. Among the analyzed factors, the morphometry, in this scale of analysis, had little influence on the spatial variation of the data. The pattern of land use and occupation was what, together with the regional dynamics, established influences in the analysis of data behavior. Specifically, points P3 and P4 (Field Headquarters of Goiás Esporte Clube and State College Pedro Xavier Teixeira) presented higher values of maximum air temperature (38.8 and 39.8 ° C) and the lowest relative humidity Air, of 18%. The importance of points P1 and P2 (Areião and Vaca Brava parks) is emphasized for cooling the temperature and increasing the humidity of the air in the place. They presented during the period considered hotter and drier in the study area, contribution of up to 5,5ºC in the cooling of the air temperature and, of up to 7%, in the higher humidity, thus improving the environmental quality. It is considered that due to the strong climatic seasonality of Goiânia, it is necessary to expand green areas as corridors integrated with the city parks in order to make it possible to cool the effects of the heat island.

Dinâmica da vegetação arbórea na borda de remanescentes florestais e sua relação com características da paisagem no norte do Estado do Paraná / Arboreal vegetation dynamics at forest edges and its relations with landscape features in the northern Paraná State

Bruno Rodrigues Ginciene 20 October 2014 (has links)
Edge effects and landscape structure alterations are among the negative consequences of forest fragmentation responsible for ecological process alterations on the earths surface. Originated from the disordered expansion of anthropogenic activities these alterations may endanger the remaining forest patches future and the maintenance of natural resources. This dissertation was pledged to analyze the vegetation dynamics at forest edges and its relations with landscape features. The vegetation dynamics was examined through eight perpendicular-to-edge transects within six forest patches and the alterations on the arboreal community distribution and composition were assessed between 1996 and 2012. The surrounding landscapes of the analyzed transects were characterized from 1995 and 2011 orbital images and its land use changes were evaluated. Landscape structure and physical parameters influence were analyzed over species recruitment and mortality. The results indicated that the distance of edge influence increased over time while its magnitude was attenuated. The average distance from the edge of pioneer/earlysuccessional species, wind-dispersed and canopy species in 2012 became significantly larger than in 1996. Over time lower similarities in species composition were found to be closer to the edges. Although the observed land use changes in the surrounding landscapes of the edge transects landscape structure and physical parameters proportionality was maintained between 1995 and 2011. Overall the arboreal community dynamics were poorly associated with landscape features. A strong relation of the variables was only found between the exotic and pioneer/early-successional species mortality and recruitment and the size and the amount of forest patches within the landscapes. These results indicate that to be effective conservation planning must tackled edge effects and incorporate the landscape context otherwise they will fail for the maintenance of the future of forest patches.

Geometry (shape) and texture (tissue) measurements analyzed over time can be used to search the nodule malignancy. Among geometric measures commonly used, the nodule growth rate is one of the most accurate noninvasive methods to evaluate malignancy. Followed by other texture measures achieved over time, it is possible to get valuable information about nodules behavior, so that the doctor can use them to take related decisions. For these reasons, it is important to compare the nodule in exams applied at different moments. A key step for the comparison is to verify the correspondence between nodules of different exams. This correspondence is used to determine if a nodule X in the exam A is the same nodule Y in an exam B. Due to a number of anatomical and physiological factors and image acquisition, the same nodule cannot be in exactly the same location on different exams. To correct this problem, rigid and deformable image registration show up to be efficient. Once established this correspondence, it is possible to analyze the nodule texture changes through similarity indexes. In this sense, the aim of this work is to present methods for quantitative analysis of texture changes in lung nodules. For this analysis, it is used CT scans obtained at different moments from the same patient. Furthermore, it is presented a method to verify nodules found in different exams correspond to the same nodule by applying image registration.

Avaliação da violência urbana utilizando dados de morbimortalidade hospitalar: uma abordagem temporal e espacial / Urban violence evaluation based on hospital records: a temporal and spatial approach

Liliam Pereira de Lima 22 September 2005 (has links)
We analyze the data chronologically (number of events along time) and spatially (geographical location). The statistical modelling is based on point processes and wavelet techniques to estimate both temporal and spatial intensities, that is, the expected numbers of events by unit time or unit area. The results indicate that the expected number of events is greater for men than for women along the whole observation period. The same is true for the expected number of accidents and that of aggressions, the former being consistently greater than the latter. The expected numbers of events for different age groups (0 to 14, 15 to 29, 30 to 59 and 60 or more) are significantly different. A neighborhood of Saboya Hospital was considered for spatial analysis, according to which it is possible to identify regions where occurrences are most frequent. The spatial distribution of the number of events is non homogeneous with high concentration mostly on Jabaquara and Cidade Ademar districts and along some big avenues (Bandeirantes, Jabaquara and Cupec^e avenues). Spatial non homogeneity of intensities is also observed for both aggressions to men and to women. The regions with the highest risks of aggression to women seam to be located away from the big avenues. When considering traffic and transport accidents separately by each day of the week, the analysis has shown both time and spatial non homogeneous distributions of events with highest estimated intensities during weekends and lowest ones on Monday and Tuesday

Exploring Hidden Coherent Feature Groups and Temporal Semantics for Multimedia Big Data Analysis

Yang, Yimin 31 August 2015 (has links)
Thanks to the advanced technologies and social networks that allow the data to be widely shared among the Internet, there is an explosion of pervasive multimedia data, generating high demands of multimedia services and applications in various areas for people to easily access and manage multimedia data. Towards such demands, multimedia big data analysis has become an emerging hot topic in both industry and academia, which ranges from basic infrastructure, management, search, and mining to security, privacy, and applications. Within the scope of this dissertation, a multimedia big data analysis framework is proposed for semantic information management and retrieval with a focus on rare event detection in videos. The proposed framework is able to explore hidden semantic feature groups in multimedia data and incorporate temporal semantics, especially for video event detection. First, a hierarchical semantic data representation is presented to alleviate the semantic gap issue, and the Hidden Coherent Feature Group (HCFG) analysis method is proposed to capture the correlation between features and separate the original feature set into semantic groups, seamlessly integrating multimedia data in multiple modalities. Next, an Importance Factor based Temporal Multiple Correspondence Analysis (i.e., IF-TMCA) approach is presented for effective event detection. Specifically, the HCFG algorithm is integrated with the Hierarchical Information Gain Analysis (HIGA) method to generate the Importance Factor (IF) for producing the initial detection results. Then, the TMCA algorithm is proposed to efficiently incorporate temporal semantics for re-ranking and improving the final performance. At last, a sampling-based ensemble learning mechanism is applied to further accommodate the imbalanced datasets. In addition to the multimedia semantic representation and class imbalance problems, lack of organization is another critical issue for multimedia big data analysis. In this framework, an affinity propagation-based summarization method is also proposed to transform the unorganized data into a better structure with clean and well-organized information. The whole framework has been thoroughly evaluated across multiple domains, such as soccer goal event detection and disaster information management.

Multitemporal SAR images denoising and change detection : applications to Sentinel-1 data / Débruitage et détection de changements pour les séries temporelles d'images SAR : applications aux données Sentinel-1

Zhao, Weiying 21 January 2019 (has links)
The inherent speckle which is attached to any coherent imaging system affects the analysis and interpretation of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. To take advantage of well-registered multi-temporal SAR images, we improve the adaptive nonlocal temporal filter with state-of-the-art adaptive denoising methods and propose a patch based adaptive temporal filter. To address the bias problem of the denoising results, we propose a fast and efficient multitemporal despeckling method. The key idea of the proposed approach is the use of the ratio image, provided by the ratio between an image and the temporal mean of the stack. This ratio image is easier to denoise than a single image thanks to its improved stationarity. Besides, temporally stable thin structures are well-preserved thanks to the multi-temporal mean. Without reference image, we propose to use a patch-based auto-covariance residual evaluation method to examine the residual image and look for possible remaining structural contents. With speckle reduction images, we propose to use simplified generalized likelihood ratio method to detect the change area, change magnitude and change times in long series of well-registered images. Based on spectral clustering, we apply the simplified generalized likelihood ratio to detect the time series change types. Then, jet colormap and HSV colorization may be used to vividly visualize the detection results. These methods have been successfully applied to monitor farmland area, urban area, harbor region, and flooding area changes.

Geographic Analysis of Tornadogenesis from Landfalling and Nearby Tropical Cyclones in the State of Florida

Roop, Charles Eugene 17 August 2013 (has links)
Tropical cyclone (TC)-spawned tornadoes in Florida were analyzed to determine patterns of occurrence based on storm and geographic features. Tornadoes were determined to be associated with a landfalling or nearby TC if a tornado occurred within 800 km of the TC’s center of circulation. TC-tornadoes were analyzed for patterns based on distance and angle from TC’s center, topographic influences, population biases, and influence based on time of landfall. Most TC-Tornadoes tend to occur more often before landfall than after. It was discovered that tornadoes have occurred in different areas with respect to the bearing from the center depending on the landfall location and time of landfall. It was also discovered that land use type, and elevation had little to do with TC-Tornado occurrence. The results do suggest some population bias. The findings will be a guide for operational meteorologists to aid in forecasting likely tornadogenesis from TCs.

Bayesian Analysis of Temporal and Spatio-temporal Multivariate Environmental Data

El Khouly, Mohamed Ibrahim 09 May 2019 (has links)
High dimensional space-time datasets are available nowadays in various aspects of life such as economy, agriculture, health, environment, etc. Meanwhile, it is challenging to reveal possible connections between climate change and weather extreme events such as hurricanes or tornadoes. In particular, the relationship between tornado occurrence and climate change has remained elusive. Moreover, modeling multivariate spatio-temporal data is computationally expensive. There is great need to computationally feasible models that account for temporal, spatial, and inter-variables dependence. Our research focuses on those areas in two ways. First, we investigate connections between changes in tornado risk and the increase in atmospheric instability over Oklahoma. Second, we propose two multiscale spatio-temporal models, one for multivariate Gaussian data, and the other for matrix-variate Gaussian data. Those frameworks are novel additions to the existing literature on Bayesian multiscale models. In addition, we have proposed parallelizable MCMC algorithms to sample from the posterior distributions of the model parameters with enhanced computations. / Doctor of Philosophy / Over 1000 tornadoes are reported every year in the United States causing massive losses in lives and possessions according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Therefore, it is worthy to investigate possible connections between climate change and tornado occurrence. However, there are massive environmental datasets in three or four dimensions (2 or 3 dimensional space, and time), and the relationship between tornado occurrence and climate change has remained elusive. Moreover, it is computationally expensive to analyze those high dimensional space-time datasets. In part of our research, we have found a significant relationship between occurrence of strong tornadoes over Oklahoma and meteorological variables. Some of those meteorological variables have been affected by ozone depletion and emissions of greenhouse gases. Additionally, we propose two Bayesian frameworks to analyze multivariate space-time datasets with fast and feasible computations. Finally, our analyses indicate different patterns of temperatures at atmospheric altitudes with distinctive rates over the United States.

Analyse spatio-temporelle d'un mouvement scientifique : l'exemple de la géographie théorique et quantitative européenne francophone / Spatio-temporal analysis of a scientific movement : the case of theoretical and quantitative geography

Cuyala, Sylvain 20 October 2014 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to implement a spatio-temporal analysis of a scientific movement based on a sociological theory (Frickel, Gross, 2005), combined with spatial analysis. This combination constitutes the major contribution of the present work. For this analysis, the author has chosen as a subject the European French-speaking theoretical and quantitative geography, whose temporal evolution and spatial configuration remained largely unknown until now. The thesis uses two main kinds of materials: archival (Répertoire des géographes, journals, lists of communications of TQG colloquium) and memorial with 58 semi-structured interviews collected from a sample of actors of the movement. The analysis of the corpus combines quantitative methods (from graph theory to the analysis of geographical units’ specialization), and qualitative ones (thematic and semantic analysis of the corpus and interviews of actors). This investigation has allowed us to propose a periodization of the movement since its beginnings in the 1960’s organized around three main periods: 1. the emergence, from 1971-72 to 1984, involving a small number of actors and locations, and while individual researchers interact in order to give themselves a self training, 2. the Golden Age, from 1985 to the end of the 1990’s, marked by the formation of organized groups based on many interactions between French-speaking places in Europe, self reproducing and spreading. 3. The generalization of the knowledge core which is accompanied by a decline in identification with the movement, from the 2000’s to the present, according to many reconfigurations including the disappearance of certain historical centres.
