Thesis (MBA.) -- University of Limpopo, 2015 / This report focused on investigating the awareness and utilisation of government programme for development and support of SMMEs. The study acknowledges the fact that youth participation in entrepreneurial activities can reduce the high number of unemployment in the country and can contribute in the economy of especially rural areas. This was a qualitative study conducted in Mankweng area in Limpopo and the focus group was the youth who have post-matric qualifications. The sample consisted of fifteen graduates, of ages 25 to 35, who were not working and actively looking for employment. Male participants in the study formed 33 per cent, while the female participants were at 67 per cent. The main findings were that only a few of the participants were aware of the available government support programmes. Of those that were aware, many were unsure about how to access these programmes while others did not even think about starting their own businesses. The study recommends that these programmes ought to be accessible to the local government and should form part of the developmental programme of municipalities to ensure greater awareness and utilisation; and that youth need to be encouraged to start thinking more about starting their own businesses as an alternative to formal employment

In this research project the research participants and I embarked on a journey through the "desert" of unemployment. I was introduced to the research participants at Jacob's Well, a ministry for people "between jobs" The effects of unemployment on a male's identity were explored, as well as the pastoral response of caregivers to people "between jobs". A phenomenological study was undertaken in which interviews with the participants formed the basis of the research. The structured section of the interviews was guided by the research questions, but the largest part of the interviews was about the participants' personal journeys "between jobs." The role of a ministry like Jacob's Well, catering for people "between jobs", was highlighted and recommendations for practical theology and pastoral praxis were made. / Practical Theolgy / M.Th. The aim of the current study was to determine the occurrence and effects of corporal punishment in the South African environment. Special attention was paid to themes that were derived from the literature. These themes were immediate compliance, aggression and the parental influence of corporal punishment. This was a quantitative study which utilised a survey developed by the researcher using previous literature on the topic of corporal punishment. The sample was taken from four different schools in the Johannesburg area. The sample consisted of one hundred and twenty one children within middle childhood (N=121). It was found that corporal punishment is occurring in South African homes. It was also found that children do not feel indifferent about the use of corporal punishment. When it came to the use of corporal punishment and socio-economic status, it was found that there is a significant correlation between the two. / Social Work / M.Diac (Play therapy)
