Violent and Nonviolent Juvenile Offenders : An Assessment of Differences in Object Relations Functioning Using the Thematic Apperception Test

Cox, Randall J. (Randall Judd) 12 1900 (has links)
TAT stories and demographic information of 30 violent and 30 nonviolent juvenile delinquents were obtained. Institutional assessment records at Dallas County Juvenile Department (DCJD) served as the data base for this study. TAT stories and demographic information of 30 violent and 30 nonviolent juvenile delinquents were obtained. Institutional assessment records at Dallas County Juvenile Department (DCJD) served as the data base for this study. Differences with respect to object relations functioning between juveniles charged with two categories of index offenses: property offenses and aggravated assault were examined. Object relations were assessed utilizing a scoring system designed for use with the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT). The scoring system encompasses a psychoanalytic perspective and consists of four dimensions representing separate but interrelated aspects of object relations. It was hypothesized that juvenile delinquents who commit violent crimes would exhibit lower object relations functioning as compared to juvenile delinquents who commit nonviolent crimes.

A TEMÁTICA CORES NO ENSINO DE QUÍMICA / THE THEMATIC COLORS IN CHEMISTRY TEACHING

Kraisig, ângela Renata 07 January 2016 (has links)
Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul / In this research, we use as study focus the thematic "Colors". The study was developed in two stages, the subjects involved in the first stage are undergraduate students in Natural Sciences of Federal University of Pampa (UNIPAMPA) Campus of Dom Pedrito / RS and in the second stage are the third year high school students in Augusto Ruschi School of basic education localized in Santa Maria / RS. The first stage had as goal to investigate the conceptions of undergraduate students about the thematic Colors by application of an investigative questionnaire with some affirmative, objective and descriptive questions. At this stage, we seek to investigate the conceptions of future teachers, related to teaching and learning processes, the use of thematic, experiential activities and others, as well as to verify the scientific knowledge of them related to the thematic "Colors". The results indicated that the use of thematic in teaching is a good strategy and that the thematic "Colors" is an interesting proposal for use in teaching. Still, we realized the undergraduate students presented difficulties and confusion relation to scientific knowledge related to the thematic. Thus, the difficulties observed in the first stage of this research helped in the preparation of the second. The second stage of the research had goal to investigate the contributions the thematic "Colors" on learning of knowledge related to Science, with emphasis on knowledge of Chemistry through thematic workshops associated with different teaching strategies as: experimental activities and case studies. The instruments used for data collection, pre and post questionnaires, descriptive and illustrative activities, case studies and mind maps were analyzed according to the Discursive Textual Analysis, allowing to detect advances in students learning through proposed thematic approach. Regarding the results, we concluded that the teaching of science was favored using the thematic "Colors" because it allowed that students participated actively in the construction of their own knowledge, and enabled a higher relation of scientific contents with the daily life of students.

Analýza a návrh webové aplikace pro cestující do zahraničí / Analýza a návrh webové stránky pro cestující do zahraničí

Strnad, Stanislav January 2013 (has links)
The target of this thesis is to design a website which enables its visitors a slightly different approach when searching information about the selected countries, compared to websites of similar orientation. The main asset of the website would be to allow the selection of thematic information (transport, culture, food, trade, etc.), giving the user a clue in the search for the countries where he would like to travel to. (or just find some interesting information about them) It should be also possible to filter and sort the available information accordingly by prearranged criteria, which should allow the visitor to get slightly different perspective over the issue. One of the main features is the contribution of users themselves to co-create the website, for which the registration system will be adapted to. The system will distinguish several levels of users with different permissions to access various sections of the website and to manage its content. It should be possible to edit the data through the web interface, which should provide sufficient variability for a complete content management. The website solution should be created for the users as intuitively as possible without any unnecessary barriers that would prevent users from comfortable and effective use of the website.

A Constructivist Approach to the Thematic Apperception Test

Jones, John V. (John Victor) 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to explore the possibility of interpreting the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) in constructivist terms. This research project involved a qualitative approach, focusing on abductive discovery and phenomenological critique. From constructivist theory, the core ordering processes of reality, identity, power, value, and relatedness were used to interpret a subject's TAT narratives. The author of the study chose one subject from the three with which he worked to present a case study. Chapter One of the research project reviews the literature of both TAT studies and constructivist theory. The author first discussed reliability and validity studies involving the TAT. Second, the author discussed constructivist theory, focusing on its philosophical antecedents and its theoretical framework. Chapter Two of the project establishes the methods and procedures utilized during the project. The core ordering processes as taken from constructivist theory are defined and discussed in detail. Chapter Three represents the bulk of the study, presenting the results and discussion of the results. Following a discussion of the results, the author critiqued the results, and based on the critique discussed procedural changes and implications for future research.

The viability of using non-standardised thematic projection media with young adolescents

Andersen, Surette Olivia 30 November 2005 (has links)
This study evaluates whether it is viable to implement non-standardised thematic projection media when dealing with the young adolescent. The selection was based on the results of a pilot study involving fifty young adolescents. The young adolescents chose cards that reflected salient issues in their lives. The sample responded positively and spontaneously to the non-standardised thematic projection media implemented. A review of the results revealed that non-standardised thematic projection media can be used effectively in diagnosis and therapy and thus has viability when used with the young adolescent. The clients chose cards that appealed to their frames of reference. The use of non-standardised thematic projection media enhances the counselling relationship. It increases the understanding of the client and aids the therapist in clarifying therapeutic goals. It allows the therapist to act as an emotional container. By including guidelines for the selection and interpretation of non-standardised thematic projection media the researcher wishes to make a contribution in the repertoire of the educational psychologist when dealing with the young adolescent. / Psychology of Education / M.Ed. Standaardisering van 'n gestruktureerde objektiewe tematiese appersepsie-toets / Standardisation of an objective thematic apperception test

Peek, Cornelia Magrietha 11 1900 (has links)
The aim of the research was to establish how accurate an Objective Thematic Apperception Test can measure typical behavioral constructs of adolescents such as anxiety, stress, aggression, interpersonal relations and self-concept. An empirical investigation was carried out using a newly developed questionnaire, the Structured Objective TAT (SOTAT) as well as a control questionnaire (CQ). The items of the SOTAT were based on a selection of TAT cards and the CQ measured certain affective variables in the traditional way. Both questionnaires were completed by 378 adolescents. The SOTAT was found to be reliable but not construct valid since low correlation coefficients between the SOTAT and CQ were obtained. There is the possibility that projection did not occur during completion of the SOTAT. / Psychology / M. Ed. (Voorligting)
