An usability evaluation of TRIO’s e- learning modules enhancing the communication between cancer patients, clinicians and carers

Bonnaudet, Melanie January 2020 (has links)
The involvement of carers in oncology is important for the health of people diagnosed with cancer as well as carers themselves. To improve their involvement, three groups; patients, their carers, and  clinicians should maintain good communication. The e-learning interface, eTRIO, has a learning module for each of these three groups. The design of eTRIO is based on research from psycho- oncologists. This study aims to answer the question; What are the strengths and weaknesses of the eTRIO interfaces for clinicians, carers, and patients in terms of their usability? Heuristic evaluation and think-alouds have been conducted to answer this. The results of this study show that interactive activities, as well as neatly presented content, are engaging the user, buttons and content should have clear purposes. The eTRIO interface will enhance carers' involvement with good usability, making it easy for users to retain important information. Strengths and areas for improvement will be presented in this study.

Discovering Data-Driven Stories : A Case Study / Läsardrivna narrativ i datavisualiseringar : En fallstudie

Backman, Carl-Johan January 2017 (has links)
Narrative visualization is a young and emerging field, driven mainly by data journalists. For this reason, most data stories available today are author-driven. However, with the rise of interactive visualizations the possibilities for creating reader-driven stories have become apparent. In this thesis, we present a straigthforward prototype, AsylKoll, built to support the articulation of reader-driven stories about Swedish immigration during 2015. We test its ability to support reader-driven stories by performing two user-studies based on the Think Aloud Method. In particular, we evaluate the prototype along the dimensions of reader engagement and learning. We find that user-centric data and various effects, such as transitions and mouse-overs, have a positive impact on reader engagement. In addition, we find that typical tasks such as extracting extremes and making comparisons are very important for users to gain insight and learn from the data. Foremost, this thesis shows the potential that simple, interactive visualizations have to make people engage and gain insights from data.

Nie, Juhe January 2021 (has links)
Think tanks are identified as policy research institutions that conduct interdisciplinary research on social or policy issues and provide consultation with the government, enterprises and the general public. Civil think tanks place social value prior to profits and uphold research independence. Through producing research content on social issues, civil think tanks make contribution with publications, advocacy, and action promotion. Civil think tanks are facing challenging complexity and obstacles in development due to their independence from governments and universities. To resolve these difficulties, civil think tanks require an innovative business model and a matching management mechanism. This thesis aims to understand the business model performed by civil think tanks and explore a practical management model to support this business. Specific recommendations will be made to the case organization. The case study was performed in collaboration with Youthink Center, one of China’s leading civil think tanks which provides young people with a platform to learn, take advocacy, and action on global frontier issues about sustainable development. A systematic literature review was conducted to elaborate concepts connected to think tanks and understand existing management frameworks. Data regarding this research project was collected through internal and external interviews and documentations. The case-study resulted in an evaluation on the business model of Youthink Center and a proposed management framework in accordance with the business. Key aspects of succeeding in a think tank are to insist on the value proposition of social responsibility and to enhance content creation and influence expansion ability with digital tools. To make this business model operate effectively, think tanks are expected to focus on project management processes, talent gathering, evaluation mechanism, and deeper collaborations on knowledge and technology. Understanding these areas will guide the social think tanks to increase working efficiency and enhance social influence.

Accessibility Concepts to Include Elderly in the Digital World

Christersson, Oskar January 2024 (has links)
The digital world offers endless possibilities. New technology is constantly released, and different ways to interact with and use systems are often introduced. Even though the usefulness of digital systems can be high, the constant ongoing release of new technology forces users to keep up. To be able to participate in the world of digital technology, a user must possess the necessary understanding of how to use and interact with the technology in question. This project addresses the topic of digital accessibility, with focus on elderly. Defined accessibility concepts are gathered through a literature study and used in the process of developing two new prototypes of the web application Klimatkollen. The prototypes are then evaluated, partially through a Think Aloud process where users over 60 years old rate the difficulty of performing specified tasks in the prototypes. Due to deviations in the test process, it is not possible to conclude if the accessibility concepts used in this project have any effect on the usage of a system. However, the literature study, and the concepts gathered can be used as a starting point for future research.

Exploring the Political Roles of Chinese Think Tanks: A Case Study of China's Three Gorges Project Decision-Making

Mi, Na 03 June 2008 (has links)
Since the establishment of People's Republic of China in 1949, Chinese think tanks have experienced significant development during the transformative process of China's political reform and modernization, and their influence has become more notable than before. However, think tanks historically have been given little attention by the public as well as social scientists in China, so scholarly study on Chinese think tanks is limited. This thesis explores the political roles and characteristics of Chinese think tanks by investigating the transformation and classification of Chinese think tanks from 1949 to the present. Furthermore, through a case study of one of the significant projects in contemporary China—the Three Gorges Project—this thesis examines the performance and influence of three Chinese nonpolitical think tanks—the Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASS), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) on the process of government policy-making in China. Based on this analysis of Chinese think tanks, I draw the conclusion that professionalism and institutionalization are very urgent requirements for contemporary China's think tanks. / Master of Arts

Savard-Lecomte, Marie-Odile 12 1900 (has links)
Since the election of Jean Charest in 2003, we notice that the neoliberal’s ideas (deregulation, privatization, liberalization, and reduction of government expenditures) have regularly inundated all public exchange of ideas in Quebec, from elected politicians to media conglomerates. The author tried to determine how conservative ideas became part of the public discourse in Quebec. Our research lead us to a Quebec think tank: Montreal Economic Institute. The managers of this organization used its important influence with written media, particularly Gesca. Thanks to its large, powerful social network and its influence strategy, the Montreal Economic Institute think tank was able to transmit its neoliberal ideas. In this way, this think tank has spread these ideas in the pages of the most read Quebecois daily newspapers. Young think tanks, such as Montreal Economic Institute, believe that access to the media is essential to shape public opinion and public policy. Their purpose is to influence the setting of the agenda and the framing of discourse in the media to favor the respective think tank’s propositions and ideas. The author analyzed three different cases, at three different times, in which she demonstrates that the Montreal Economic Institute has influenced the agenda setting of Gesca, and that the framing was largely favorable to the Montreal Economic Institute’s propositions.

Psycho-cognitive process of comprehension in conference interpreting (consecutive and simultaneous) and in translation : French-Persian case

Farnoud, Esmaeel 02 June 2014 (has links)
The translation is not a linear act starting from a text source to reach the final text. The steps of the translation process (comprehension of the original text, cultural and linguistic mediation, shaping the target text) aren’t considered as a simple sequence of decoding and recoding messages. The progress of cognitive science in the last twenty years has helped feed a multidisciplinary study at the frontiers of neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, linguistics and artificial intelligence. The essential point of our thesis is to find the phase of " deverbalization " during the translation process. This is a mental process that couldn’t be understood without the contributions of cognitive science. Among the many experimental methods in the process of translation distinguishes between the method of data collection in vivo, that is to say, taken on the spot during the translation process, and the method of collection of in vitro data, is once the translator has finished translating. In this research, using a combination of the two process- oriented Approaches to study professional translation online: verbal reporting, better known as TAPs (think- aloud protocols), and Translog program for logging keyboard activity, we will examine the problems encountered in the act of translation French -Persian by our participants and the strategies used by them to solve linguistic and cultural problems.
