The studies on the learning participation and the influences of the mainland students who come to Taiwan

Unknown Date (has links)
By interviewing and analyzing the questionnaires of the mainland students who studied in the universities in Taiwan for one or two semesters, the current research studied the influences of cultures and educations across strait through the exchange student programs. In the recent five years, there has been a big change in the cultural and educational exchange cross strait. In the beginning, there were only less than 10 exchange students from China to study here for only one week or one month, as well as short-term exchanges for summer or winter breaks only. Currently, almost every large-scale of universities in Taiwan, more than ten mainland students attend classes with Taiwan students. For some private universities, more than hundreds, even thousands of mainland students come to study. It has formed a new culture of “mainland students” on campus in Taiwan. This new culture is predicted to be a big trend which quietly changes the environment of higher education system in Taiwan. The objective of this study was to understand the motivations of these students from mainland China to study any program in Taiwan. The results of this study will provide colleges and universities in Taiwan with informative sources for attracting more Chinese students and understanding their needful. Both questionnaire and interviewing methodologies were used for this study. The results show that most of the Chinese students were interested in colleges and universities in Taiwan because students from both sides speak the same language and short distances between China and Taiwan for returning home. The impressions of local students to those Chinese students were active, passions and highly bound to extra curriculum. The level of teaching quality and environment in Taiwan was impressed and effective to the Chinese students. For all of the above mentioned reasons, students from China were still willing to attend the classes in Taiwan for some credit hours through the exchange student programs and mutual beneficial programs.

Heavenly Voice, Earthly Echo: Unraveling the Function of the Bat Kol in Rabbinic Writings

Grullon, John D 30 March 2016 (has links)
There is an ancient rabbinic apothegm which asserts that prophecy “ceased” after the last Biblical prophets, Haggai, Zachariah, and Malachi. After their deaths, a new phase of divine revelation was believed to have emerged through manifestations of a bat kol (lit. “Daughter of a voice”). This thesis examines the bat kol’s function within the contours of the Babylonian Talmud, primarily, employing philological, literary, and historical analyses. Moreover, it includes a review of parallels with Biblical and Second-Temple era, Apocalyptic works, so as to suggest possible origins. In addition, a sample of about ten stories are presented as representative of larger categories I consider best exhibit the bat kol’s purpose. The categories include: announcing an individual’s entry into the world to come, encomium and disdain towards individuals, matters related to Halacha (Jewish Law), and miscellaneous. As a result we discover how the rabbis employed the bat kol to address contemporary concerns.

Le spécifique comme norme, l'invention comme pratique : l'accompagnement des personnes atteintes de maladie d'Alzheimer ou de maladie apparentée en établissement d'hébergement pour personnes âgées dépendantes / Specific as standard, invention as practice : dementia care in nursing homes

Villez, Marion 07 December 2015 (has links)
This research studies dementia care in nursing home, in France. It articulates three levels of analysis : a socio-historical investigation of public policies and professionals thinking about the importance given to dementia in nursing homes; an ethnographic field survey in a limited corpus of nursing homes; an extension to a macro-sociological level to put this reality back into its national context.Facing the dominant sector-wide approach based on an “adaptation to a target population” model, by observing the experience of the professionals and the managers’ choices, we discover a more complex reality, fostered by a global approach which attempting to combine two issues: the cohabitation of the whole community of residents and the provision of good care for all. Two mains ways seem to be opposed, in a context of constant debates and occultations of alternatives, the first one based on segregation of people with dementia (specific care in special unit that is widely accepted as standard), the second one opposing this segregation. Beyond that, care is built as a subtle dialectic based not only on an hybridization of different forms of care but also on the creation of new practices. Specific is the standard, creation is the practice. As a result, the place given to people with dementia and the social function of a care that account them, are ambivalent. The label assigned to them submit their life to institutional constraints. In the same time, they receive a privileged treatment, that professionals want to extend to all residents. Dementia care appears then as a social laboratory for changes, applies for each residents.

[en] THE DEMONIC ALLIANCES OF THE ANIMALISM TO COME / [pt] AS ALIANÇAS DEMONÍACAS DO ANIMALISMO POR VIR

LUIZ GUILHERME V DIAS DA FONSECA 26 October 2018 (has links)
[en] This dissertation proposes a study on the accentuation of the control of the bodies effected by the pharmacopornographic regime (Paul B. Preciado) and its production of subjectivity taking into account the tension between the techniques that compound what we are accustomed to call human and the technical inventions that deviate from it, of which the biohacking and the voluntary intoxication will be the examples analyzed. For this, a double movement of investigation and experimentation of the concepts of intensive alliance (Deleuze and Guattari), or demonic alliance (Viveiros de Castro), possible strategic ties between the dehumanized by humanism, is necessary. There is also the proposition of an alternative to humanism taking forward the conceptual provocation of Preciado of an animalism to come, in a speculative writing that runs through the works of Eduardo Viveiros de Castro (Cannibal Metaphysics) and Paul B. Preciado (Testo Junkie).

The Journey Home: A Root-metaphor Analysis of the 1840 Mormon Manchester Hymn Book

Arrington, James N. 22 February 2006 (has links) (PDF)
In 1840, apostle missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints compiled, printed, and began distributing a hymnbook that eventually would become the basis for all subsequent LDS hymnbooks published in English in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This thesis, as a contribution to the literature of communication, book history, and hymnology, as well as the intellectual and cultural history of the early years of the LDS Church, focuses on analyzing the poetry of the 1840 Mormon Manchester hymnbook. Using qualitative root-metaphor analysis, the author identified and analyzed expressions, supporting an emergent journey root-metaphor. He then divided the expressions into eight categories, each describing important and distinct aspects of the Journey. These categories include the following: 1) the travelers, 2) the activities on the journey, 3) the way, 4) the destination, 5) the guide, 6) the invitation to come, 7) the motivations, and 8) the lost wanderers. This thesis is based on the assumption that cultures and religions can be understood through the stories they tell. The story of the journey as told through the poetry of the 1840 Manchester hymnbook illuminates one aspect of the religious experience of early members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Taken together, the eight aspects of the journey root-metaphor identified in this thesis tell a story about LDS members as travelers on a journey home, who walk on a straight and narrow path, away from a dark and fallen world, through snares, darkness, and other dangers, toward a glorious destination where rest, joy, and other rewards await them. Ultimately the travelers must rise above this world and follow Christ to a place where they may live with God to serve and praise him ever more.

Process and Meaning : A Coverian Analysis of Animal Defenders International v. UK and the Procedural Turn of the ECtHR

Skagerlid, Arvid January 2021 (has links)
In this thesis, the legal theory of Robert Cover is employed to analyse the procedural turn of the ECtHR. The text studies how Animal Defenders International v. the United Kingdom (ADI) and subsequent case law relate to the margin of appreciation doctrine and how this can be understood from a Coverian point of view. The margin of appreciation is thus seen as a product of an interplay between paideic and imperial forces where the imperial, or world-maintaining, influences on the doctrine are the strongest. ADI and later cases are read as further accentuating the focus on the nomos of the state relative to competing nomoi already at work in the case law of the procedural turn. The thesis is closed with an amalgamation of Cover’s ideas with the democratic theory of Jacques Derrida which results in a discussion on what a Coverian re-evaluation of the approach outlined in ADI could look like.
