Jorge Diaz Gutierrez : a transatlantic journeyAviles Ruiz, Carlos G. 01 January 2010 (has links)
In a small attempt to expand the knowledge of Latin American plays and the biographical information of Jorge Diaz Gutierrez (1930-2007), I present one of his first plays La vispera del deguello, also known by El genesis fue maNana (1967). This project will inspire and benefit scholars, future translators, the theater community, and literature students to obtain a new perspective on Latin-American theatre. La vispera del deguello deals with existentialism; we enter the world of three remaining human beings on the planet: Custodio, Hosanna, y la loca (the mad woman). The structure of this project includes: the playwright's biography with the focus on his style rooted in the European literary tradition- and my translation of the play. Translating vispera del deguello is just the beginning of this project: future plans include producing, designing, and publishing the play. My contribution will be beneficial for a transatlantic dialogue among disciplines such as theatre, modem languages, and social sciences, among others. This project will expand the knowledge of the style of Latin-American theatre and recognize one of the best Spanish playwrights of the 20th century, Jorge Diaz Gutierrez.

New Songdo City, or, The potentiality of Asian urbanism(s)Choi, Lisa January 2017 (has links)
This thesis explores the nexus between 'urban expressionism' and the potentiality of 'Asian urbanism(s)' by exploring ways that different planning paradigms have been located/dislocated in the case of New Songdo City, South Korea. By investigating four expressions of New Songdo City - as an 'Eco-City', a 'Smart City', an 'International City', and as the 'City of the Future' - this thesis argues that urban expressionism can make important contributions to the aims of Asian urbanism(s). Ultimately, this research demonstrates the ways that urban expressionism can be used to destabilize hegemonic Western-centric urban knowledge and city-building practices, and further point to new geographies of theory from which important contributions to urban research can be made. Urban expressions are made evident by various entwined urban rhetorics and worlding practices that operationalize multiple mediums of communication. Consequently, New Songdo City is, first and foremost, a city of simultaneity. To investigate this simultaneity, this research utilizes an exploratory case study approach and multiple qualitative methods that include semi-structured interviewing, focus groups, and surveys to gather insights from residents of Songdo, local experts, public and private sector actors, and other key stakeholder groups. Visual analysis is also used to explore mixed-mediums of data, including promotional videos, images, exhibition displays, magazines, and advertisements. The methods used to undertake this thesis provide a glimpse in to the development of New Songdo City and capture different urban expressions that are articulated by the city through various examples of urban rhetoric and worlding practices. The urban expressions presented in the New Songdo City case are analysed through the lens of Asian urbanism(s) and investigate the ways that hegemonic Western and Euro-centric conceptualizations of 'the urban' and 'the city' have been deployed, articulated, experienced, challenged, and complicated. By extension, this thesis also contributes to a more nuanced conceptualization of Asian urbanism(s) as well as the relevance of New Songdo City for urban theory in South Korean, Asian, and more generalizable contexts.

Morgondagens äldre : En kvalitativ studie om en ny heterogen generation äldre som mottagare av äldreomsorg / Tomorrow's elderly : A qualitative study about a new heterogeneous generation of elderly as recipients of elderly careLamell Sjögren, Catrin, Grande, Clara January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to describe and analyze how different professions in elderly care perceive the need for change and how they respond to challenges the elderly care is facing with an increasing heterogeneous generation of elderly in need of care. Further the study wants to describe and analyze differences between the professions perception of needs for change. Through this the study can contribute to increase knowledge in the area of an increasing heterogeneous generation of elderly people and its response to the needs of care. The empirical material has been collected through five semi-structured qualitative interviews where different employee positions in elderly care have been represented. One focus group has also been conducted. The empirical material from these interviews has thereafter been analyzed through the concept of salutogenic approach, forty talists and the third age. The result and conclusions shows that there are similar opinions about the importance of the quality of healthcare in the elderly care. The different employes work with the specific needs of the elderly in different ways and have overall similar goals. The results and conclusions confirm how communication lacks differently in the cooperation with each other. The employes believe that their interaction and cooperation with each other is important for the prospective work with future elderly care.

colecionar, conservar, estudar, interpretar e expor.
encontrados no referencial teórico.
Since the twentieth century, there has been a considerable change in museums around the
world, today, large museums in renovated areas of degraded urban centers, along with
international events have been transformed into products for the promotion of cities which
are globalized. Thus, the audience becomes an important role in the success of the institutions
and is a central question in the recognition of the museums as value aggregators in the urban
network, generating functions that until then were not observed.
The research elucidates the question of what are the functions of contemporary museums and
how they relate, based on a working hypothesis, that the basic functions are to collect, to
preserve, to study, to interpret and to expose. This work understood the relation between
museums and functions, and what and how the functional unfoldings are present in this
architectural typology.
Through an exploratory research, with methodology divided in a documentary phase with the
literature review, and an empirical phase with the accomplishment of studies in exemplary
cases. The Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro and the Museum of Contemporary Art of
Niterói were chosen, aiming at verifying how functions manifest themselves, in addition to
expanding the results beyond the theoretical framework. At the end, with the explication of the
functions of contemporary museums, the initial hypothesis of the research is ratified and
expanded. Added to it are other functional unfoldings that have more relevance in the
proposed cut than the functions initially pointed out, such as theoretical, symbolic and
aesthetic functions. We conclude that contemporary museums are multi-functional objects
and that their functions extrapolate the practical functions exercised in it, having today a
fundamental symbolic role for urban centers

In this essay, the themes of resistance and resilience are studied. The main heroine Doria suddenly finds herself without her father, who has gone to his native country Morocco in search of a son and a heir. She has to face the vicissitudes of life with only one parent, her illiterate and poor mother, who has no other resources except for Government subsidies. However, as they experience one trial after the other and as the days go by, Doria and her mother overcome the obstacles standing in their way and succeed in realizing the object of their desire; to be free and to flourish. The structural analysis of the story is carried out using sociological and psychological theories, and these have been helpful in shedding light on the importance of the themes or resistance and resilience in the studied novel. The subjects addressed in the essay include poverty, the rejection of institutions as well as positive revolt, and the passion for poetry and literature which particularly serves as a vehicle for Doria to liberate herself from her sufferings and to save her mother. The two women assert themselves at the end of the novel owing to the transformation of their destiny which they decided to take into their own hands through the many battles which, still in our society, represent real obstacles that hinder the emancipation of many women.
