A phenomenological exploration of the domain and structure of internal marketing

Despite the fact that Internal Marketing (IM) has emerged to capture the interest of academic researchers and management practitioners, there is a surprising absence of empirical study investigating how IM is experienced in the world of practice. This constitutes an impediment to bridging the gap in the holistic understanding of the IM concept. The big question that remains is how to articulate precisely those activities that can be taken to constitute the structure of IM and those that do not. This study aims to bridge this gap by exploring whether the experiences of managers who are implementing IM in their organisations could provide clarity as to the meaning and the constituents structure of IM. This study first undertakes scrutiny of the extant IM literature in an attempt to clarify the multiplicity of terms often associated with IM. The meaning and the constituents structure of IM was investigated via an in-depth qualitative study guided by the principles of phenomenology. This qualitative study is based around open-ended interviews with participants sampled from the UK private and public sector firms. Data was collected and analysed in line with Giorgi’s descriptive phenomenological research praxis. The phenomenological findings indicate nine overlapping elements, namely, internal communication, employee training, reward, empowerment, employee motivation, interdepartmental co-ordination, understanding the organisation, commitment, and top management support that emerged to constitute the experiential structure of IM. Drawing upon these elements, the study offers a conceptual framework of the IM structure. Systematic analytical steps were utilised to ensure the validity of findings.

日前行政院提出施政報告時指出,將以「挑戰二OO八」作為目標,研議一項為期六年的「國家總體建設計畫」,計畫中又以「兩兆雙星」的產業政策最受矚目,計畫中,數位內容產業是其中一環,希望能在2006年達到三千七百億台幣的產值,增加四萬個以上就業機會﹔經濟部甚至將成立「數位內容學院」,幫助數位產業培養傑出人才,強化國家的競爭力,台灣更訂定2006年為數位電視元年,全面轉換現有類比電視系統,進入數位化電視時代。 所謂「數位電視」時代,泛指數位電視之節目訊號採用數位影音訊號壓縮技術(Digital Video/Audio Compression),透過數位編碼(Digital Coding)與數位調變(Digital Modulation)來傳輸,並具有結合其他數位資料一起廣播之能力。 台灣的無線電視台早在2000 年舉行試播典禮,每天有五小時的數位節目播送﹔五大有線電視多系統經營者,(Multiple System Operator,簡稱MSO),包括東森、和信、台灣寬頻通訊顧問公司、太平洋聯網科技及其他,五大系統商掌控全台將近90%的有線電視收視戶,發展數位電視也最積極﹔衛星電視台如年代,也以衛星直播網路(Direct PC)方式播送數位電視﹔連電信業者如中華電信,更於2000年中成立「互動式多媒體處」,提供用戶互動式影音服務。 本文研究以「創新行銷」、「價值擴散」之理論為主軸,主要探討數位電視相關產業,未來能否成功,或被視聽大眾所接受,本研究之主要目的如下 一、 數位內容與創新擴散模式之關係:不同之數位電視業者,提供哪些不同      之數位內容?能吸引哪些消費大眾 二、 數位電視之系統採用與創新擴散模式之關係 三、 數位電視之價格策略用與創新擴散模式之關係 四、 數位電視之使用簡便性與創新擴散模式之關係 本研究以歷史文獻分析法為研究主軸,蒐集國內外相關文獻、書籍、報告、期刊、論文等資料來源加以整理分析,並以國內現有之數位電視業者及其發展之商品,如何進行創新擴散,加以介紹、分析、比較,進而探討出其未來可能之發展與建議。 / The administrative Planning Report passed recently by the Executive Yuan indicates that taking [Challenge 2008] as the target, plan and discuss a 6-year plan, named [National General Construction Planning], and of which the policies for [The Two Trillion, Twin Stars] industry attracts more attention and the digital industry is one of sectors in the planning. We expect the production value would be up to NTD 370 billion in 2006, and increase more than forty thousand job opportunities; even the Ministry of Economy would establish [Digital Institute], for helping educate the outstanding talents in digital industry and sharpen the national competitive edge; and the year of 2006, which was regarded as the Digital Video Year by the Taiwan government, will witness the process of changing the simulating video system into digital video era completely. What is called [Digital Video] era, it is generally referred to the program signal for digital video adopted with Digital Video/Audio Compression technique, and through Digital Coding and Digital Modulation to transmit the message, and has the capability of broadcasting combined by other digital information. Early in 2000, the trying-out broadcasting cerebration of the Radiovision Station in Taiwan was held, and the digital program was broadcasted for five hours everyday; The big five CATV Multiple System Operator (MSO) includes Eastern Television, KG Telecom, Taiwan Broadband Communication Corporation (ANET), Pacific Broadband Company Limited, and others, which control nearly 90% CATV audiences, and develop the Digital Video actively too; The satellite TV station like ERA also broadcasts the digital video by the way of Direct PC; and the communication operator like Chunghwa Telecom established “Interactive Multimedia Office” to provide the interactive video service in 2000. The theory of “Innovative Marketing” and “Value Extending” is taken as the principle in this research, discussing mainly the digital video and interrelated industries, whether it is successful or not, or accepted by the audience. 家族控制,負債與高階經營團隊薪酬 / Family control, debt, and top management compensation

本文主要分別探討家族控制、負債與高階經營團隊薪酬的關係。實證結果發現,根據利益一致效果,家族企業通常會發放較少變動薪酬給高階經營團隊。然而,當家族企業偏離問題較嚴重,且由家族成員擔任高階經理人時,則會支付較高變動薪酬給家族高階經營團隊,此種現象在非電子業中尤為明顯。本文亦探討負債與薪酬的關係,結果發現,負債與高階經營團隊薪酬呈非線性關係,再將負債進一步細分,發現長期銀行負債對薪酬的監督效果高於短期銀行負債及一般公司債。本文也發現相較於非家族企業,負債對高階經營團隊薪酬的監督效果在家族企業中較弱。 / This paper investigates the variable compensation of top management teams. Prior literature suggests that compensation policy can help firms reduce the agency problem between principals and agents. Most of these studies, however, emphasize the agency problem between shareholders and managers, and only a few examine those between controlling and minority shareholders and between shareholders and debtholders. This study investigates the effects of family control and debt on top management compensation, respectively. The empirical results show that, on average, family-controlled firms are associated with a lower proportion of variable compensation, which is consistent with the alignment effect. However, family-controlled firms with greater control divergence and whose CEO is a family member, which gives rise to a central agency problem, pay higher variable compensation to family top management, as evident in the non-electronic industry. Furthermore, the empirical results find a U-shaped relationship between debt and top management compensation. In addition, the monitoring effect of long-term bank debt on top management compensation is greater than that of short-term bank debt and common bond. Finally, the monitoring effect of debt on top management compensation is weaker in family-controlled firms than in non-family-controlled firms.

Soil respiration in a fire scar chronosequence of Canadian boreal jack pine forest

This research investigates soil respiration (Rs) in a boreal jack pine (Pinus banksiana Lamb.) fire scar chronosequence at Sharpsand Creek, Ontario, Canada. During two field campaigns in 2006 and 2007, Rs was measured in a chronosequence of fire scars in the range 0 to 59 years since fire. Mean Rs adjusted for soil temperature (Ts) and soil moisture (Ms) (Rs T,M) ranged from 0.56 μmol CO2/m2/s (32 years post fire) to 8.18 μmol CO2/m2/s (58 years post fire). Coefficient of variation (CV) of Rs adjusted for Ts and Ms ranged from 20% (16 years post fire) to 56% (58 years post fire). Across the field site, there was a significant exponential relationship between Rs adjusted for soil organic carbon (Cs) and Ts (P = 1.24*10-06; Q10 = 2.21) but no effect of Ms on Rs adjusted for Cs and Ts for the range 0.21 to 0.77 volumetric Ms (P = 0.702). Rs T,M significantly (P = 0.030) decreased after burning mature forest, though no significant (P > 0.1) difference could be detected between recently burned and unburned young forest. Rs was measured in recently burned boreal jack pine fire scar age categories that differed in their burn history and there was a significant difference in Rs T,M between previously 32 v 16 year old (P = 0.000) and previously 32 v 59 year old (P = 0.044) scars. There was a strong significant exponential increase in S R T,M with time since fire (r2 = 0.999; P = 0.006) for the chronosequence 0, 16 and 59 years post fire, and for all these age categories, Rs T,M was significantly different from one another (P < 0.05). The Joint UK Land Environment Simulator (JULES) was used to model vegetation re-growth over successional time at Sharpsand Creek, though it appeared to perform poorly in simulating leaf area index and canopy height. JULES probably over estimated heterotrophic Rs at Sharpsand Creek when Ts corrected simulated values were compared with measured Rs T,M. The results of this study contribute to a better quantitative understanding of Rs in boreal jack pine fire scars and will facilitate improvements in C cycle modelling. Further work is needed in quantifying autotrophic and heterotrophic contributions to soil respiration in jack pine systems, monitoring soil respiration for extended time periods after fire and improving the ability of JULES to simulate successional vegetation re-growth.

Title: Analysis of offensive combinations of the Czech national team women's World Cup 2010 in Japan and its comparison with the women's team PVK Olymp Praha. Aim: The aim of this thesis is to compare the success of offensive combinations of the Czech national team women's World Cup 2010 in Japan and its comparison with the women's team extraligovým PVK Olymp Praha in the domestic league. Method: I used the method of analysis of video games in the Czech women's representation in the 2010 World Cup in Japan and PVK Olymp Praha team I always watched and analyzed live from Olymp's Hall in Prague and its rivals. For more accurate results, I also used video recordings of selected matches. The analysis is presented graphically, and I also made a quantitative and qualitative research offensive combinations constructed under separate analysis. Results: The results clearly show the differences between the two teams being compared in their offensive combinations and their success. An exploration of the chasm in the protection of classified information in South African government departments

The chasm in the protection of classified information in South African government indicates that all the departments have at their disposal information that is to some extent sensitive in nature and obviously requires security measures. This study shows that government officials who in their official duties come to contact with classified information are either vulnerable or are implementing the security controls incorrectly. It is also clear that in the absence of a comprehensive statutory framework, the government departments’ classified information has resulted in an unstable and inconsistent classification and declassification environment. The statutory framework would, in addition to other things, address the rising threat of espionage and antagonistic activities, the selling of information and the protection of critical records in government, without hindering the constitutional rights of citizens to access information. Důchodové zabezpečení horníků v České republice / Pension security of miners in the Czech Republic

This thesis deals with the analysis of the pension security of miners in the Czech Republic from its historical beginnings to the present day, with the main focus on the legislation de lege lata. The selected range of employees in mining industry is in Czech law of pension insurance in comparison with other insured persons favoured in determination of retirement age and the determination of amount of the old-age pension. These benefits are limited for the time being; however, currently the preferences are enforced to be listed in the public pension system permanently. The main focus of work is therefore an analysis of the legislation relating to the entitlement of miners to an old-age pension, taking into account the specific retirement age and the determination of the amount of this pension. The work also touches other pension benefits paid out of the Czech pension system, i.e. disabled pension and survivors' pensions. Mentioned are also some of the claims arising from compensation legislation and the selected topics of international legal issues that may have an effect on the performance of paid to the miners from the Czech pension system (particularly the top-up allowance).

A detector for charged particle identification in the forward region of SuperB / Un détecteur pour l’identification des particules chargées dans la région avant de SuperB

Dans cette thèse nous présentons la conception, l'étude des performances et les premiers tests, effectues au Cosmic Muon Telescope situe au SLAC, d'un nouveau détecteur d'identification des particules émises dans la région ''avant'' du détecteur SuperB.Ce détecteur est base une technique de temps de vol (TOF). Pour identifier les particules avec une impulsion jusqu'à 3GeV/c et une distance de vol de l'ordre de deux mètres nous avons besoin d'un détecteur TOF capable de mesurer le temps avec une précision typique de 30 ps. Pour atteindre cet objectif nous avons conçu un composant pour lequel le passage d'une particule chargée produit de la lumière Cherenkov dans un ''fused silica'' (quartz) radiator qui est ensuite détectée par des photodétecteurs tres rapides et une électronique rapide dédiée. Nous l'appelons détecteur DIRC-like TOF.Les photodétecteurs HAMAMATSU SL-10 MCP-PMT ont été caractérises sur faisceau de test au LAL et la résolution en temps d'environ 37 ps a été mesurée. La nouvelle électronique 16-canaux USB WaveCatcher développée au LAL(CNRS/IN2P3) et CEA/IRFU montre un jitter de moins de 10 ps. La géometrie du détecteur a quartz a été étudiée avec une attention particulière a l'aide d'une simulation Geant4. Celle-ci montre que la meilleure géométrie permet d'atteindre une résolution en temps d'environ 90 ps par photoélectron avec au moins 10 photoélectrons détectés, donnant en moyenne la résolution totale désirée de 30 ps.Nous avons construit un prototype d'un tel composant, utilisant les barres de quartz utilisées pour l'expérience Babar et nous l'avons installe dans le Cosmic Ray Telescope au SLAC. Une résolution en temps d'environ 70~ps par photoélectron a été obtenue, en accord avec la simulation.Cette preuve de principe a convaincu la Collaboration SuperB d'adopter un tel composant comme solution de base pour l'identification des particules émises vers l'avant dans SuperB. Le point délicat, encore ouvert, est celui de la résistance de ce détecteur aux bruits de fond de la machine.Dans cette thèse nous présentons aussi les études préliminaires de différents types de bruit de fond et leur effet sur les performances du détecteur DIRC-like TOF. Le processus Bhabha radiatif est de loin la source dominante de bruit de fond. Le taux de photoélectrons de bruit de fond principalement du aux gammas d'énergie d'environ 1.4 MeV est estimée a ~480 kHz/cm^2 ce qui correspond a 2 C/cm^2 de charge d'anode integrée sur 5 ans. Le flux de neutrons traversant l'électronique de front end du détecteur DIRC-like TOF est estimée a ~10^11/cm^2/year. Ces résultats préliminaires sont rassurants. / In this thesis, we present the conception, the performances studies and the first tests in the Cosmic Muon Telescope situated at SLAC of a new detector for the particle identification in the forward region of the SuperB detector.This detector is based on time-of-flight (TOF) technique. To identify the particles with momentum up to 3 GeV/c and flight base around two meters we need a TOF detector able to measure the time with a precision of about 30 ps. To achieve this goal we have conceived a device producing Cherenkov light in a fused silica (quartz) radiator, by a charged particle, which then detected with very fast photodetectors and dedicated ultrafast electronics. We call it, the DIRC-like TOF detector.For what concern the photodetectors, the HAMAMATSU SL-10 MCP-PMT has been characterized at LAL test bunch and the time resolution of about 37 ps has been measured. The new 16-channel USB WaveCatcher electronics developed by LAL (CNRS/IN2P3) and CEA/IRFU has shown to have a jitter of less than 10 ps. The geometry of the quartz detector has been then carefully studied with Geant4 simulation. Which shows that the best detector geometry allow to reach the time resolution of about 90 ps per photoelectron with at least 10 photoelectrons detected, giving in average the desired 30 ps total time resolution.We have constructed a prototype of such device, using the quartz bars available from the Babar experiment, and we have installed it, in the SLAC Cosmic Ray Telescope. A time resolution of about 70 ps per photoelectron was obtained, in agreement with simulation.This proof-of-principle has convinced the SuperB Collaboration to adopt such a device as the baseline for the SuperB particle identification detector in the forward region. The delicate point which is still opened is the resistance of this detector to the machine background.In this thesis we also present preliminary studies of different types of background and their effect on the performances of the DIRC-like TOF detector. Radiative Bhabha process is by far the dominant source of background. The rate of the background photoelectrons caused mainly by the gammas with energy around 1.4 MeV is estimated to be ~480 kHz/cm^2 which corresponds to 2 C/cm^2 of integrated anode charge in 5 years. The neutron flux thought the DIRC-like TOF front end electronics is ~10^11/cm^2/year. These preliminary results are reassuring.

Bakgrund och problem: Bakgrunden till denna studie ligger i bristen av mångfald i svenska företagsledningar. För att skapa en större förståelse för rekryteringen av individer till företagsledningen, kan det således vara av betydelse att studera de individer som tillsätter ledningen, det vill säga vd, styrelseordförande och styrelsen. Dessa ledande positioner förväntas påverkas av betydande händelser och erfarenheter i deras formativa år, och således bilda unika värderingar vilket kan påverka deras val av individer till företagsledningen. Det är därmed intressant att förstå om och i så fall hur ledande positioners generationstillhörighet kan förklara mångfalden i företagsledningen. Syfte: Studiens syfte är att förklara om och hur ledande positioner såsom vd:s, styrelseordförandens samt styrelseledamöters generationstillhörighet kan förklara mångfalden i företagsledningen.    Metod: Undersökningen utgår från befintlig teori och har en deduktiv ansats, med en teoretisk grund utifrån gruppkonfliktsteorin, sociala identitetsteorin, homosocial reproduktion, legitimitetsteorin och institutionella teorin. Hypoteser formuleras utifrån vd:s, styrelseordförandens och styrelsens generationstillhörighet för att studera om olika generationer har skilda värderingar som i sin tur kan förklara mångfalden i företagsledningen. Uppsatsen är kvantitativ och studerar samtliga svenska börsnoterade företag på large-, mid- och small cap för åren 2007 respektive 2017.    Resultat och slutsats: Det kan konstateras att ledande positioners generationstillhörighet inte kan förklara mångfalden i företagsledningen. Denna studie ser istället tendenser av homosocial reproduktion vid rekrytering av individer till företagsledningen. / Background and problem: The background to this study lies in the lack of diversity in Swedish top management teams. In order to create a greater understanding of the recruitment of individuals to the top management team, it can thus be of importance to study the individuals who appoint the management, that is, the CEO, the chairman of the board and the board. These leading positions are expected to be influenced by significant events and experiences in their formative years, thus forming unique values which can affect their choice of individuals to the top management team. It is therefore interesting to understand whether and, if so, how leading positions' generation affiliation can explain the diversity in top management teams.  Purpose: Our purpose is to explain whether and how leading positions such as the CEO's, the Chairman’s of the Board and the Board of Directors generation affiliation can explain the diversity in top management teams.   Method: The study is based on existing theory and has a deductive approach, with a theoretical basis based on group conflict theory, social identity theory, homosocial reproduction, legitimacy theory and institutional theory. Hypotheses are formulated on the basis of the CEO's, the Chairman's and the Board's generation affiliation in order to study whether different generations have different values which in turn can explain the diversity of the top management team. The thesis is quantitative and studies all Swedish listed companies on large, mid and small cap for the years 2007 and 2017.    Results and conclusion: It can be concluded that the leading positions generation affiliation can not explain the diversity in top management teams. Instead, this study sees tendencies of homosocial reproduction when recruiting individuals to top management teams.

Après sa naissance en 1909, La ville de Tel Aviv continue son essor jusque dans les années 1930-1948 marquées par l'architecture modernes, sous l’influence de l’urbaniste Patrick Geddes. Celui-ci écrit son rapport à 1925, qui s’inspirent du modèle de la Cité Jardin. Le site comprend 3 000 bâtiments inspirés par des architectes modernistes européens : Mendelsohn, Le Corbusier, Gropius et autres. La déclaration d’indépendance d’Israël en 1948 entraîne l’établissement d’institutions nationales et la construction rapide de bâtiments publics et de logements. La prise de conscience de l’importance de la conservation de La Ville Blanche et sa patrimonialisation engendrent à leur tour un changement du tissu urbain et de son architecture (1977-2003). Nous tentons d’identifier ici les facteurs susceptibles de déclencher les mutations nombreuses qui ont pris place durant les années 1948 - 2003 et qui ont amené la ville de Tel Aviv jusqu'à son inscription au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO. Nous avons analysé l’apparition de certains modes d’adaptation de la ville aux changements, à la lumière des principes de planification de Geddes, issus de la biologie organique. Les mécanismes d’adaptation sont analysés en fonction de 3 facteurs : Les processus de planification, les décisions d'ordre politique et la réception du public. Afin de comprendre les différentes représentations de chacun des trois facteurs, nous avons consulté les archives historiques des plans de la ville, les protocoles, les débats et publications officielles de la municipalité, ainsi que les représentations de la ville telle qu’elle apparait dans la littérature pour enfants, le cinéma, et la presse. Pour chacune de ces époques, nous avons identifié un modèle de comportement récurrent des changements. Ainsi sont discernés les modes d’influence des trois coefficients de planification - architectes, décideurs, et le grand public - et leur influence réciproque sur la ville est démontrée. / After its creation in 1909, the city of Tel Aviv continued to develop until the years 1930 – 1948 during which the Modern style was predominant. That took place under the remarkable influence of the urban planner sir Patrick Geddes whose vision on the extension of the city was published in 1925 inspired by the ideas of Garden-City. The site of the White City includes 3,000 buildings designed by Jewish immigrants under the influence of Modern European architects such as Mendelssohn, Le Corbusier and Gropius. The Declaration of Independence of the state of Israel in 1948 brought about the establishment of national institutions and the need for the quick solutions of construction of public buildings and social housing, meant for thousands of refugees. The awareness and importance of the conservation of the White City brought about significant changes in the local approach towards the existing urban tissue, and its architecture (1977-2003). This research aims at identifying the factors susceptible to trigger the architectural mutations that took place during the years 1948 – 2003 up until the final inscription of the White City as world heritage site by UNESCO. We have analyzed the emergence of a number of types of adjustment to changes within the City, from the field of organic biology. The various mechanisms of adjustment are analyzed according to three different factors: Planning process, the political decision making, and the reception of the values and myths of the city by the Public. In order to understand the different representations of each of those 3 factors, we have checked the historical archives of the City Planning Department, including protocols, debates and official publications. We have then gone through the representation of the city as it materializes in children literature, movies and the media. For each time period, a recurrent pattern of behavior of changes was identified. This method allows pinpointing the various types of influence of each of the three coefficients of planning: architects, Decision Makers, and the Public. The reciprocal influence of those factors on each other can then at last conclusively be established.
