Studentrekrytering : det bortglömda kapitlet inom eventkommunikation / Student recruitment : the forgotten chapter within student recruitment

Pettersson, Daniel, Rosenberg, Anni January 2009 (has links)
Student recruitment is a subject that seems to be forgotten in the theory of event communication. Yet the area has some specific reoccurring features. Our purpose was to examine these specific features and how to work with these in the best way, and also see how to get the most out of the event communication to the young at event and fairs. Special features we have looked at are the student ambassadors ands their impact, the meaning of a give-away and also if there are any essential factors to get in contact with the young at fairs and events, and if new technology had an important role to play in the area. Our research has been inductive, and therefore, we have created our own theory and reflected it to the larger topic of event communication and its theories. Our research method has been triangular, both quantitative and qualitative; interviews with those who work with student recruitment, and surveys to young people in upper secondary school. Our study showed the importance of student ambassadors and their specific task to be nice, friendly and outgoing. In comparison, the give-away isn't as important. It mainly has a remembering function and can also make interaction easier. We also found that different events are needed to fill different requirements, meanings and purposes. Information is also important; both to create awareness about the events and fairs, but also information at the event and fairs. This information should first and foremost be through a course catalogue, but also information about the school and the life as a student is important. Regarding to new technology it has a secondary meaning, and shouldn't be over-emphasized.

Το μοντέλο των σκληρών και μαλακών οξέων και βάσεων ως εργαλείο στη χημεία των μοριακών ετερομεταλλικών μαγνητών / The principle of hard and soft acids and bases as a tool in the chemistry of molecular heterometallic magnets

Λαδά, Ζωή 09 October 2014 (has links)
Στην παρούσα Διπλωματική Εργασία εφαρμόζεται η δεύτερη κατά σειρά προσέγγιση για την παρασκευή των παρακάτω συμπλόκων ενώσεων: [CoIII {(py)C(Η)NO}2{(py)C(Η)NOH}](ClO4) [CoIII2DyIII{(py)C(Η)NO}6(H2O)(DMF)](ClO4)3.3.2H2O [CoIII2GdIII{(py)C(Η)NO}6(H2O)(DMF)](ClO4)3.3.2H2O [CoIII2DyIII{(py)C(Η)NO}6(H2O)(MeOH)](ClO4)3.3.2H2O [CoIII2GdIII{(py)C(Η)NO}6(H2O)(MeOH)](ClO4)3.3.2H2O [CoIII2SmIII{(py)C(Η)NO}6(H2O)(MeOH)](ClO4)3.3.2H2O [CoIII2TbIII{(py)C(Η)NO}6(H2O)(MeOH)](ClO4)3.3.2H2O [CoIIIDyIII{(py)C(Ph)NO}3(NO3)3] [CoIIIEuIII{(py)C(Ph)NO}3(NO3)3] [CoIIISmIII{(py)C(Ph)NO}3(NO3)3].0.3MeOH [CoIIITbIII{(py)C(Ph)NO}3(NO3)3].0.3MeOH [CoIIIGdIII{(py)C(Ph)NO}3(NO3)3].0.3MeOH [CoIII2Na{(py)C(Η)NO}6].(OMe) [CoIII2DyIII2{(py)C(Η)NO}4(piv)4(NO3)4].2MeCN [CoIII2GdIII2{(py)C(Η)NO}4(piv)4(NO3)4].2MeCN [CoIII2TbIII2{(py)C(Η)NO}4(piv)4(NO3)4].2MeCN [CoIII2PrIII2{(py)C(Η)NO}4(piv)4(NO3)4].2MeCN [CoIII2YIII2{(py)C(Η)NO}4(piv)4(NO3)4].2MeCN [Cu2(diba)4(κινοξαλίνη)]n [Cu3Dy2{(py)2CO2}{(py)2CO(OMe)}3{(py)2CO(OEt)}(NO3)4(H2O)2](ClO4)(OH) [Cu6{(py)2CO(OMe)}6(NO3)2](ClO4)4 [Cu3{(py)2C(OMe)(OH)}2{(py)2C(OMe)O}2(ClO4)2] (ClO4)2 .2MeOH [Cu{(py)2C(OH){CH2COCH3)}2](NO3)2.2H2O Οι δομές των συμπλόκων προσδιορίσθηκαν με Κρυσταλλογραφία Ακτίνων Χ Μονοκρυστάλλου. / Homometallic complexes which contain exclusively 3d metal ions and heterometallic complexes with 3d/4f metal ions attract, nowdays, the intense interest of inorganic chemists, due to their important magnetic, optical and catalytical properties. The chemistry of polynuclear complexes (clusters) of the 1st row transition metals is a cutting-edge research area, since combines the sciences of Chemistry, Biology and Physics with applications in the fields of Bioinorganic Chemistry, Chemistry of Molecular Materials and Nanotechnology. After the discovery of the phenomenon of Single Molecule Magntesism, the magnetic properties of molecular clusters are a growning research field. Single Molecule Magnets (SMMs) are molecular clusters which can retain their magnetic orientation, in the absence of a magnetic field, below a certain temperature. SMMs represent the smallest information storage devices with multiple potential applications. Many SMMs of 3d metals exhibit high total spin in the ground state, but their disadvantage is the low value of Zero Field Splitting (ZFS) parameter, D. Lanthanides play an important role in Magnetism, due to their large spin and in most cases huge magnetic anisotropy. In their trivalent oxidation state, which is the most stable, they have the disadvantage of the very weak exchange interactions between the metal ions, as a result of the efficient shielding of unpaired 4f electrons. This fact has led to the investigation of systems combining 4f-metal ions with other paramagnetic species, such as organic radicals or 3d-metal ions. Thus, the simultaneous presence of trivalent lanthanides (LnIII) and 3d metal ions can improve the Single Molecule Magnetism behavior of coordination clusters leading to magnetic properties different from those of 3d clusters. Our Diploma Work in the context of the M.Sc. in “Analytical Chemistry and Nanotechnology” concerns the chemistry of 3d/4f clusters. In our efforts to synthesize heterometallic clusters of Co or Cu/LnIII with oximes (2-pyridyl oximes, 2,4-pentanedione dioxime) and di-2-pyridyl ketone as ligands, we have isolated and characterized new families of complexes, studying various reaction parameters, such as the nature of the organic ligand, the solvent of the reaction, the source of the metal ions, the temperature, the pressure etc. As synthetic route, we have used the “bottom-up” approach. The “bottom-up” approach uses the chemical properties of discrete molecules in order to cause: a) Self-organization or Self-assembly in an interesting configuration. b) Assembly with a specific stereochemistry. This strategy is used for the concepts of molecular self-organization and/or molecular recognition. Hence in a broader sense, the “bottom-up” approach can produce potential applications in devices with cheaper ways in relation to the “top-down” approach which is used widely for the synthesis of devices with technological interest. This molecular approach begins with the use of independent sources of atoms or small molecules for the synthesis of large molecular nanostructures with preferential and targeted properties, developing though the field of Nanotechnology. Two general synthetic approaches for the synthesis of Co or Cu/LnIII complexes are: the strategy which is based on the use of “metal complexes as ligands” and the strategy based on the “simple mixing of components”. In this Diploma Work we have used the second approach for the synthesis of the below mentioned complexes: [CoIII {(py)C(Η)NO}2{(py)C(Η)NOH}](ClO4) [CoIII2DyIII{(py)C(Η)NO}6(H2O)(DMF)](ClO4)3.3.2H2O [CoIII2GdIII{(py)C(Η)NO}6(H2O)(DMF)](ClO4)3.3.2H2O [CoIII2DyIII{(py)C(Η)NO}6(H2O)(MeOH)](ClO4)3.3.2H2O [CoIII2GdIII{(py)C(Η)NO}6(H2O)(MeOH)](ClO4)3.3.2H2O [CoIII2SmIII{(py)C(Η)NO}6(H2O)(MeOH)](ClO4)3.3.2H2O [CoIII2TbIII{(py)C(Η)NO}6(H2O)(MeOH)](ClO4)3.3.2H2O [CoIIIDyIII{(py)C(Ph)NO}3(NO3)3] [CoIIIEuIII{(py)C(Ph)NO}3(NO3)3] [CoIIISmIII{(py)C(Ph)NO}3(NO3)3].0.3MeOH [CoIIITbIII{(py)C(Ph)NO}3(NO3)3].0.3MeOH [CoIIIGdIII{(py)C(Ph)NO}3(NO3)3].0.3MeOH [CoIII2Na{(py)C(Η)NO}6].(OMe) [CoIII2DyIII2{(py)C(Η)NO}4(piv)4(NO3)4].2MeCN [CoIII2GdIII2{(py)C(Η)NO}4(piv)4(NO3)4].2MeCN [CoIII2TbIII2{(py)C(Η)NO}4(piv)4(NO3)4].2MeCN [CoIII2PrIII2{(py)C(Η)NO}4(piv)4(NO3)4].2MeCN [CoIII2YIII2{(py)C(Η)NO}4(piv)4(NO3)4].2MeCN [Cu2(diba)4(quinoxaline)]n [Cu3Dy2{(py)2CO2}{(py)2CO(OMe)}3{(py)2CO(OEt)}(NO3)4(H2O)2](ClO4)(OH) [Cu6{(py)2CO(OMe)}6(NO3)2](ClO4)4 [Cu3{(py)2C(OMe)(OH)}2{(py)2C(OMe)O}2(ClO4)2] (ClO4)2 .2MeOH [Cu{(py)2C(OH){(CH2COCH3)}2](NO3)2.2H2O The structures of the complexes have been solved with Single Crystal X-ray Crystallography. The magnetic properties of selected compounds are investigated. The complexes have been characterized by several physical and spectroscopic techniques. The data are discussed in terms of the known structures of the complexes and the coordination modes of the ligands.

Bertrand, Josie-Anne 06 1900 (has links)
Recognizing objects is a complex task requiring the brain to assemble visual information in such a way that coherent perception can happen. Building a visual cerebral representation is done through a bottom-up process, involving mainly occipital and temporal areas. A top-down mechanism from parietal and frontal areas, is thought to facilitate recognition by taking into account expectations and generating possible candidates. However, the precise mechanisms by which all these processes are done are still unclear. Studies investigating induced gamma response were able to link this activity to coherent perception of objects, suggesting a significant role of this activity in object recognition. However, these studies used imprecise recording techniques and stimuli repetition. The first study of this thesis aimed at describing with more precision the induced gamma activity using intracranial encephalography and a fragmented images paradigm in which only new stimuli are presented. Moreover, the task was presented again 24 hours later to circumscribe top-down mechanisms. Results show that the induced gamma activity is highest at recognition in regions involved in bottom-up processes. Top-down mechanism involved occipito-parietal areas when images were presented for the first time. When images were presented again 24 hours later, frontal areas mediated top-down facilitation, suggesting that top-down mechanisms vary according to task demand. Alpha rhythm has been less clearly related to visual perception, but is nevertheless well known to be involved in attention, memory and long-distance brain communication. The second study of this thesis investigated the role of alpha rhythm in object recognition, using the same technique and task as in the first study. Time-frequency analysis revealed a strong alpha activity unspecific to recognition, which was propagating from posterior to anterior regions. Phase coherence analysis, however, showed significant phase synchronisation specific to recognition. A similar pattern of alpha activity was found 24 hours later. However, the activity was stronger in frontal regions and the phase synchronisation was more distributed. Alpha rhythm is thus thought to be involved in attentional and communicational mechanisms of object recognition. In conclusion, this thesis was able to describe the precise spatio-temporal dynamics of induced gamma and alpha activity and suggest potential roles of these rhythms in response to object recognition.

Ontological Semantics

Loebe, Frank 06 May 2015 (has links) (PDF)
The original and still a major purpose of ontologies in computer and information sciences is to serve for the semantic integration of represented content, facilitating information system interoperability. Content can be data, information, and knowledge, and it can be distributed within or across these categories. A myriad of languages is available for representation. Ontologies themselves are artifacts which are expressed in various languages. Different such languages are utilized today, including, as well-known representatives, predicate logic, subsuming first-order (predicate) logic (FOL), in particular, and higher-order (predicate) logic (HOL); the Web Ontology Language (OWL) on the basis of description logics (DL); and the Unified Modeling Language (UML). We focus primarily on languages with formally defined syntax and semantics. This overall picture immediately suggests questions of the following kinds: What is the relationship between an ontology and the language in which it is formalized? Especially, what is the impact of the formal semantics of the language on the formalized ontology? How well understood is the role of ontologies in semantic integration? Can the same ontology be represented in multiple languages and/or in distinct ways within one language? Is there an adequate understanding of whether two expressions are intensionally/conceptually equivalent and whether two ontologies furnish the same ontological commitments? One may assume that these questions are resolved. Indeed, the development and adoption of ontologies is widespread today. Ontologies are authored in a broad range of different languages, including offering equally named ontologies in distinct languages. Much research is devoted to techniques and technologies that orbit ontologies, for example, ontology matching, modularization, learning, and evolution, to name a few. Ontologies have found numerous beneficial applications, and hundreds of ontologies have been created, considering solely the context of biomedical research. For us, these observations increase the relevance of the stated questions and close relatives thereof, and raise the desire for solid theoretical underpinnings. In the literature of computer and information sciences, we have found only few approaches that tackle the foundations of ontologies and their representation to allow for answering such questions or that actually answer them. We elaborate an analysis of the subject as the first item of central contributions within this thesis. It mainly results in the identification of a vicious circularity in (i) the intended use of ontologies to mediate between formal representations and (ii) solely exploiting formal semantic notions in representing ontologies and defining ontology-based equivalence as a form of intensional/conceptual equivalence. On this basis and in order to overcome its identified limitations, we contribute a general model-theoretic semantic account, named \\\"ontological semantics\\\". This kind of semantics takes the approach of assigning arbitrary entities as referents of atomic symbols and to link syntactic constructions with corresponding ontological claims and commitments. In particular, ontological semantics targets the avoidance of encoding effects in its definition. Therefore we argue that this semantic account is well suited for interpreting formalized ontologies and for defining languages for the representation of ontologies. It is further proposed as a fundament for envisioned novel definitions of the intensional equivalence of expressions, in potential deviation from only being formally equivalent under set-theoretic semantics. The thesis is defended that a particular usage of a formalism and its respective vocabulary should be accompanied by establishing an ontological semantics that is tailored to that use of the formalism, in parallel to the formal semantics of the language, in order to capture the ontological content of the formal representation for adequate reuse in other formalisms. Accordingly, we advocate ontological semantics as a useful framework for justifying translations on an intensional basis. Despite all deviations of ontological semantics from its set-theoretic blueprint, close relationships between the two can be shown, which allow for using established FOL and DL reasoners while assuming ontological semantics.

White Top-Emitting OLEDs on Metal Substrates / Weiße top-emittierende OLEDs auf Metallsubstraten

Freitag, Patricia 19 July 2011 (has links) (PDF)
This work focusses on the development of top-emitting white organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), which can be fabricated on metal substrates. Bottom-emitting OLEDs have been studied intensively over the years and show promising perspectives for future commercial applications in general lighting. The development of top-emitting devices has fallen behind despite the opportunities to produce these devices also on low-cost opaque substrates. This is due to the challenges of top-light-emission concerning the achievement of a broad and well-balanced white emission spectrum in presence of a strong microcavity. The following work is a further step towards the detailed understanding and optimization of white top-emitting OLEDs. First, the available metal substrates and the deposited silver electrodes are examined microscopically to determine their surface characteristics and morphology in order to assess their applicability for thin-film organic stacks of OLEDs. The examination shows the suitability for untreated Alanod metal substrates, which display low surface roughness and almost no surface defects. For the deposited silver anodes, investigations via AFM show a strong influence of the deposition rate on the surface roughness. In the main part of the work top-emissive devices with both hybrid and all-phosphorescent architecture are investigated, in which three or four emitter materials are utilized to achieve maximum performance. The feasibility for top-emitting white OLEDs in first and second order devices is investigated via optical simulations, using the example of a three-color hybrid OLED. Here, the concept of a dielectric capping layer on top of the cathode is an essential criterion for broadband and nearly angle independent light emission. The main focus concerning the investigation of fabricated devices is the optimization of the organic stacks to achieve high efficiencies as well as excellent color quality of warm white emission. The optimization of the hybrid layer structure based on three emitter materials using a combined aluminum-silver anode mirror resulted in luminous efficacies up to 13.3 lm/W and 5.3 % external quantum efficiency. Optical analysis by means of simulation revealed a superior position concerning internal quantum efficiency compared to bottom-emitting devices with similar layer structure. The devices show an enhanced emission in forward direction compared to an ideal Lambertian emitter, which is highly preferred for lighting applications. The color quality - especially for devices based on a pure Al anode - is showing excellent color coordinates near the Planckian locus and color rending indices up to 77. The introduction of an additional yellow emitter material improves the luminous efficacy up to values of 16.1 lm/W and external quantum efficiencies of 5.9 %. With the choice of a all-phosphorescent approach, using orange-red, light blue and green emitter materials, luminous efficacies of 21.7 lm/W are realized with external quantum efficiencies of 8.5 %. Thereby, color coordinates of (x, y) = (0.41, 0.45) are achieved. Moreover, the application of different crystalline capping layers and alternative cathode materials aim at a scattering of light that further reduces the angular dependence of emission. Experiments with the crystallizing material BPhen and thin carbon nanotube films (CNT) are performed. Heated BPhen capping layer with a thickness of 250 nm show a lower color shift compared to the NPB reference capping layer. Using CNT films as cathode leads to a broadband white emission at a cavity thickness of 160 nm. However, due to very high driving voltages needed, the device shows low luminous efficacy. Finally, white top-emitting organic LEDs are successfully processed on metal substrates. A comparison of three and four color based hybrid devices reveal similar performance for the devices on glass and metal substrate. Only the devices on metal substrate show slightly higher leakaged currents. During repeated mechanical bending experiments with white devices deposited on 0.3 mm thin flexible Alanod substrates, bending radii up to 1.0 cm can be realized without device failure.

The effect of straightening and grinding of welds on track roughness

Bona, Melissa Ellen January 2005 (has links)
Rail is a very expensive component of the railway track. Therefore, research methods extending rail life have great economic importance. During the past thirty years and, particularly during the past ten years there has been an increasing awareness throughout most rail networks in the world of the need to introduce improved design criteria, better construction techniques and higher standard track generally. This implies that quality control at all levels is mandatory if these objectives are to be achieved. With the improved understanding of degradation of track, a more complete comprehension of the costs associated with different operating and infrastructure conditions should also be developed, aiding in the determination of efficient maintenance costs and their contribution to access charges. Track and structures together account for 60% of maintenance costs, with 50% of the total being track. The UIC has done a lot of work on comparative performance indicators, and these show what potential savings much be out there for the taking, just by adopting current best practice. The old wisdom is that it's not enough o do things rights; we have to make sure that we do the right things. These developments have largely resulted from the demand for higher speeds particularly in passenger services and the demand to accept heavier axle loads of freight traffic. Whilst the conventional railway track structure is not likely to change significantly over the next ten years there will be a requirement over that period for better quality track infrastructure. This means less rail surface defects, less internal defects and less wheels irregularities. The presence of rail surface defects generally increases the roughness of the track leading to a poor passenger ride and increased safety risk with freight traffic. In addition, rail surface defects will generally increase the degradation rate of other track components; however, not all defects will produce visible track deterioration. Dynamic impacts produced by the rollingstock running over rail surface defects, such as poor welds, will, over time, create continuous rail defects, loosening of fastenings, abrasion and skewing of sleepers, crushing of ballast and loss of formation geometry. It is only in the recent years that the importance of poor welds in track has been identified. Dips and peaks must be recognised as a severe track irregularity that needs to be addressed and removed. Current maintenance activities have little effect on removing misaligned welds in track and the improvement obtained after the maintenance works is generally short lived. On the other hand, straightening operations have proven to solve the problem and maintain the results following 7 months of traffic. As part of this project, a six kilometre test section was selected on the Mt Isa Line and all welds located in this region were monitored for over 9 months to increase the understanding of the effect of individual maintenance activities on the track roughness. Three 2km Divisions were established; each Division had different maintenance activities and levels of intervention completed over the duration of the project. Over 15,000 readings were recorded and analysed. The following conclusions were drawn. The effect of cycle tamping was clearly identified when comparing the means of weld located in Division 1, 2 to the mean of welds in Division 3. Cycle tamping showed to have a significant positive effect on the dipped welds geometry and an increase in severity of peaked welds prior to their correction. Straightening operations completed in Division 1 and 2 reduced the overall mean of weld misalignments. These Divisions were subjected to different levels of straightening intervention however they produced similar results. Division 1 all dips were straightened and Division 2 only dips &gt0.3mm were straightened. This means that no additional benefit, in terms of overall misalignment of welds, can be gained when straightening operations target dips with a misalignment smaller than 0.3mm. Cycle grinding proved to have little effect on the removal of both dips and peaks. In fact, due to the configuration of the grinding machine, grinding operation produced a slight worsening of the dips misalignments and only a minor improvement of peaks. Although long term monitoring of the site may show minor variations in weld geometry performance, after approximately 3.9 Mgt of traffic the mean of dipped welds in Division 1 and 2 appeared to remain unaltered, as Division 3 showed a minor worsening. Furthermore, the mean of peaked welds in Division 1 and 2 appeared to remain unaltered, as Division 3 showed a minor worsening.

FSH is one of the key hormones that regulate the reproductive function in mammals. In the male, FSH targets Sertoli cells, which express the FSHR. Sertoli cells play an important trophic role in the development of spermatogenesis. Here, we have provided the first FSHR-induced translatome, that encompasses all the mRNA being actively translated. The translation of some mRNAs significantly modulated by FSH may exert a feedback control on FSH-dependent signaling. The analysis of the proteome has validated the FSHR translatome at the systems level. We also demonstrated the involvement of β-arrestins in the FSH-stimulated translation of mRNA. β-arrestins form a molecular assembly with the p70S6K / rpS6 translation module. This molecular assembly is involved in the translation of 5'TOP mRNA, which encode proteins of the translational machinery. FSH-activated G proteins leads to p70S6K activation within the β-arrestins/ p70S6K/ rpS6 module. This work provides new advance on the mechanisms whereby FSH exerts its biological function in its natural target cells of the male gonad.

[en] BAYESIAN STOCHASTIC EXTENSION OF DETERMINISTIC BOTTOM-UP APPROACH FOR THE LONG TERM FORECASTING OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION / [pt] EXTENSÃO ESTOCÁSTICA BAYESIANA DA ABORDAGEM BOTTOM-UP DETERMINÍSTICA PARA A PREVISÃO DE LONGO PRAZO DO CONSUMO DE ENERGIA

FELIPE LEITE COELHO DA SILVA 16 February 2018 (has links)
[en] The electricity consumption behaviour in the Brazilian industry has been extensively investigated over the past years due to its economic, social and environmental importance. Specifically, the electricity consumption of the subsectors of Brazilian industry have great importance for the Brazilian energy system. In this context, the long-term projections of energy consumption of a country or region are highly relevant information to decision-making of organs and entities operating in the energy sector. The deterministic bottom-up approach has been used for the long-term forecast in several areas of research. In this paper, we propose a methodology that combines the bottom-up approach with hierarchical linear models for long-term forecasting considering energy efficiency scenarios. In addition, Bayesian inference was used to estimate the parameters of the model, allowing the uncertainty incorporation in these forecasts. The results using the electricity consumption data from subsectors of the Brazilian industry showed that the proposed methodology is able to capture the trajectory of their electricity consumption, in particular of the pulp and paper, and of non-ferrous metals and other metallurgical subsectors. For example, the 95 percent credibility intervals constructed from the stochastic model contemplate the actual values observed in the years 2015 and 2016.
