Territórios negros em Porto Alegre/RS (1800 – 1970): geografia histórica da presença negra no espaço urbano / Black territories in Porto Alegre/RS (1800-1970) : an historical geography of the black presence in urban spaceVieira, Daniele Machado January 2017 (has links)
Black population is present in the city of Porto Alegre / RS since the Colonial period. However, official narratives of the evolution of the city do not mention its black citizens, leading to the invisibility and oblivity of spaces which have been occupied by such population. Areal da Baronesa, Colônia Africana, Ilhota, Parque da Redenção and Bacia do Mont'Serrat are some of these black territories. Black territores are conceived in this dissertation as a physical and symbolic spaces with functions (of housing, work, leisure etc.) and / or with cultural practices (such as batuque, carnival, religion etc.) of black women and men, and whose meaning is built in relation to the presence or activities of black people. The lack of visual representation, especially maps, makes it difficult to place black territories in the imagined space of the city, to the point of complete erasure. In order to build the memory of black territories, this work draws a cartography of the spaces occupied by the black population in the city of Porto Alegre since the Colonial period until mid 20th Century. Historical-geographical analysis was used, combining different sources (newspapers, historical documents, photographs, chronicles, narratives), following the methodology proposed by the geographer Maurício de Abreu. In the outset of the urbanization of Porto Alegre, black territories were located in the Central area. They were repeatedly displaced towards the edges of the city. The dismantling and displacement of these territories is related to moments of deep transformations of the urban space of Porto Alegre, such as: i) the outset of the modernization of the Central area (in the turn from 19th to 20th Century); ii) the urban reform of the Central area (1924-1937); iii) major works in the edges of the Central area such as the rectification of Dilúvio rivlet and the landfill of Praia de Belas (1941-1970). Through cartography, it is possible to update and strenghten the memory of black population and its territories in Porto Alegre.

Comunicação Organizacional e Governança Corporativa: uma intersecção possível? / Comunicação Organizacional e Governança Corporativa: uma intersecção possível?Sabbatini, Juliana Fedak 15 September 2010 (has links)
This thesis investigates a possible correlation between the organizational communication policies and the practices of corporate governance in the entrepreneurial sphere, using as a backdrop the profound transformations in the economic, political, social and cultural ambit from the second half of mid twentieth century onwards. With an extensive bibliographical review as the main methodological tool and a field research with 22 firms (which represent 50% of the market value of all the public companies in Brazil), I sought to build a trajectory of organizational communication and its theoretical corpus as well as corporate governance in an attempt to observe the existing intersecting links between them, both from a theoretical point of view and from the perspective of statistical tests. The study defends the thesis that more transparent, collaborative and integrated communication processes, besides being heterogeneous in addressing the different demands of diverse stakeholders present in the organization, are determinants in the construction of good practices in corporate governance. In other words, the positive intersection identified here may contribute decisively to a better empowerment and adaptation of the companies to the profound transformations present in the competitive scenario of contemporary capitalism.

Chácara Xavier : um estudo de caso em arqueologia histórica / Chácara Xavier : a study of case in historical archaeologyQueiroz, Claudia Moreira 12 December 2006 (has links)
During XIX century, the rural residences became a living option among dominant classes. Result of a prosper age caused by the coffee culture\'s richness, this new life style was going to represent, in some places, splendour and status. In Jacareí, it was not different. Starting from this premise, Chácara Xavier was taken as object of study: being one of the few properties with such standart wich conserves several self-characteristics while a sample of that age. Confirming several events, this local still had a lot to show. In that way, the material culture that was recovered by methods and technics used by archaeology, plus series of options offered by Historical Archaeology, like documental studies, architetonical risings, oral history, among other things, was about to reveal part of this history, including some transformations that occours not only in this place, but mainly in the way of living of a society that begans to plot out

Selection mechanisms for microstructures and reversible martensitic transformationsDella Porta, Francesco M. G. January 2018 (has links)
The work in this thesis is inspired by the fabrication of Zn45Au30Cu25. This is the first alloy undergoing ultra-reversible martensitic transformations and closely satisfying the cofactor conditions, particular conditions of geometric compatibility between phases, which were conjectured to influence reversibility. With the aim of better understanding reversibility, in this thesis we study the martensitic microstructures arising during thermal cycling in Zn45Au30Cu25, which are complex and different in every phase transformation cycle. Our study is developed in the context of continuum mechanics and nonlinear elasticity, and we use tools from nonlinear analysis. The first aim of this thesis is to advance our understanding of conditions of geometric compatibility between phases. To this end, first, we further investigate cofactor conditions and introduce a physically-based metric to measure how closely these are satisfied in real materials. Secondly, we introduce further conditions of compatibility and show that these are nearly satisfied by some twins in Zn45Au30Cu25. These might influence reversibility as they improve compatibility between high and low temperature phases. Martensitic phase transitions in Zn45Au30Cu25 are a complex phenomenon, especially because the crystalline structure of the material changes from a cubic to a monoclinic symmetry, and hence the energy of the system has twelve wells. There exist infinitely many energy-minimising microstructures, limiting our understanding of the phenomenon as well as our ability to predict it. Therefore, the second aim of this thesis is to find criteria to select physically-relevant energy minimisers. We introduce two criteria or selection mechanisms. The first involves a moving mask approximation, which allows one to describe some experimental observations on the dynamics, while the second is based on using vanishing interface energy. The moving mask approximation reflects the idea of a moving curtain covering and uncovering microstructures during the phase transition, as appears to be the case for Zn45Au30Cu25, and many other materials during thermally induced transformations. We show that the moving mask approximation can be framed in the context of a model for the dynamics of nonlinear elastic bodies. We prove that every macroscopic deformation gradient satisfying the moving mask approximation must be of the form 1 + a(x) ⊗ n(x), for a.e. x. With regards to vanishing interface energy, we consider a one-dimensional energy functional with three wells, which simplifies the physically relevant model for martensitic transformations, but at the same time highlights some key issues. Our energy functional admits infinitely many minimising gradient Young measures, representing energy-minimising microstructures. In order to select the physically relevant ones, we show that minimisers of a regularised energy, where the second derivatives are penalised, generate a unique minimising gradient Young measure as the perturbation vanishes. The results developed in this thesis are motivated by the study of Zn45Au30Cu25, but their relevance is not limited to this material. The results on the cofactor conditions developed here can help for the understanding of new alloys undergoing ultra-reversible transformations, and as a guideline for the fabrication of future materials. Furthermore, the selection mechanisms studied in this work can be useful in selecting physically relevant microstructures not only in Zn45Au30Cu25, but also in other materials undergoing martensitic transformations, and other phenomena where pattern formation is observed.

This research on human settlements’ socio-spatial transformations focus on Shanghai local architecture, such as the urban entity called Shikumen lilong. Their existences in the actual megacity, beyond their destructions or beyond their protections, reveal the marks of an urban architecture in movement. Our argument is that any change is going through complexes socio-spatial relationships in a common space, the shared spaces. We argue that appropriations processes, individual and/or collective, are connected at different level – the city, the lilong neighbourhood, the alleyway, and the shikumen house – according to various sharing degrees from anonymous to intimate relations. Residents and lilong are interconnected by place-names, forms, way of lives, and even way to transform their spaces. The objective of this study is then to understand how shikumen lilong residents’ daily lives and spaces evolve or remain. What are the factors of transformations? How are they set up? How do they develop? The actual study of spaces compartmentalization and added architecture, traces different historical era. Every actor, whether they are, the residents, governances, even outsiders, are linked through their actions. Common rules or ways of living evolve with time and environment conveyed by lilong. So that the architecture of shikumen lilong transforms in relation with: political legitimacies, legal status, and administrative records, social and family relationships

Por fim, os parâmetros do modelo em aproximação de pares são ajustados a dados experimentais obtidos de isotermas de compressão-expansão para dois fosfolipídios zwitteriônicos: o dimiristoilfosfatidilcolina (DMPC) e o dipalmitoilfosfatidilcolina (DPPC) / Abstract: In this work, we present a brief bibliographic review on the study of monomolecular films on the air-water interface (Langmuir films), their historical development and present relation with advanced subjects on biological and biomimetic membranes, besides the advantages and disadvantages of certain experimental techniques for the characterization of Langmuir films. In order to describe phospholipid Langmuir films, we discuss some theoretical models as a preamble to presenting the Doniach lattice gas (DLG) model, which we solve in the pair approximation, implemented through exact calculations on the Bethe lattice. An electron microscopy study of continuous ordering and phase separation in iron-rich iron-aluminum alloysAllen, Samuel Miller January 1975 (has links)
Thesis: Ph. D., Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Department of Materials Science and Engineering, 1975. / Vita. / Includes bibliographical references. / The discrepancy between two recent phase diagram determinations of the Fe-Al system is resolved experimentally. Both diagrams are correct, but-one is a metastable coherent phase diagram. The iron-aluminum system possesses a tricritical point where a line of [lambda]- transitions ends at a miscibility gap at about 23 atom percent aluminum and 615°C. Rules of general applicability governing phase separation within the miscibility gap are developed. Application of the rules to the iron-aluminum system results in detailed predictions about the mechanisms of decomposition and their sequences in this system. Electron microscopy is used to study the reactions experimentally and the results are in agreement with theoretical predictions. / by Samuel Miller Allen. / Ph. D.
