Domestic Violence Intervention Program Facilitators' Motivation for Working With Repeat Offenders

Barclay, Elaine Marie 01 January 2016 (has links)
Domestic violence (DV) rehabilitative program facilitators administer the same treatment programs to males who reoffend. When DV facilitators administer the same unsuccessful treatment programs to repeat offenders, facilitators may lose intrinsic and extrinsic motivation to perform their job. For this study a hermeneutic phenomenological methodology approach was used to explore the phenomenon of DV facilitators' motivation. Self-determination theory was used to frame the influence of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation on DV facilitators who administer treatment programs to repeat offending males. A recruitment flyer was placed in the DV organization, data were collected from 7 participants through face-to-face or telephone interviews that were 18 years of age, proficient English speaking, actively facilitating DV treatment programs to repeat offending males, and employed with the DV organization. Data were transcribed and coded using open and axial coding, and analyzed for themes. Findings indicated that accountability, intrinsic motivation, and commitment influenced DV facilitators when administering programs to repeat offenders. Social change implications include awareness of perceived laissez-faire criminal justice policy towards DV male offenders and the lack of community support of challenges and opportunities for enhancing motivation for DV program facilitators.

The Impact of COVID-19 on the Opioid Epidemic

Stewart, Hailey 01 May 2022 (has links)
The COVID-19 pandemic adversely affected the lives of most Americans. People with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) were particularly vulnerable to the negative effects brought on by the pandemic. This study explored the increase in deaths due to opioid overdose during the pandemic exacerbated by factors such as increased stress, decrease in treatment options due to social distancing requirements and facility closures, social isolation, and an increase in spare time. Access to treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD) was interrupted by the measures meant to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Through a systematic review of current literature, it was demonstrated that existing patients were able to maintain access to care, while few new patients were able to initiate treatment. Telehealth proved to be a vital means of assuring PWUD were able to access life-saving treatment amid a pandemic. Further research is needed to determine whether SUD treatment measures during the COVID-19 pandemic warrants changing the policies long term.

Kvízová, Kateřina January 2021 (has links)
The thesis aims to describe and analyze the process of professional treatment with emphasis on reducing criminogenic risks with convicted men placed into guarded prisons in section with a high level of security. Convicted criminals show diverse degrees of riskiness and different structures of criminogenic factors. In order for the Prison Service of Czech Republic to work with them effectively, it needs to know their criminological profile. For this stated purpose, it analyzes relevant anamnestic and special pedagogical data. The content of the treatment program is then determined based on their evaluation, which takes into account the variation of pedagogical, socio-legal and psychological approaches and methods, in regards to particular identified high-risk criminogenic factors and needs. The own research of the study, which forms the core of the practical/empiric part of the thesis, consists of the analysis of the self-reported assessed risk factors and subjectively percieved reactivity (alternatively analogous therapeutic responsiveness) and appropriate penitentiary-pedagogical interconnection of available treatment program activities. Santos, Jeruzia Silva dos 03 April 2018 (has links)
The Professional Exercise of social workers in various socio-occupational spaces has been the object of multímodos studies, which enables an arsenal of research, productions and publications about the theme. In the area of health is undeniable and notorious the expressiveness of these studies, however, despite intense debates about the Interlocution Social Service with the sanitary reform and action of these professionals in health programs and projects, in relation to the professional exercise of social workers in the treatment program outside the home (PTFD) that is still incipient and shy. In this sense, the research on canvas permeates through research of the practice of professionals in the area of Social Services that operate in the PTFD having as general objective to analyze the demands and responses submitted by social workers in the everyday life of the said program ahead of the contradictions and tensions generated by the project focusing and private access to the universal right to health. Among other objectives, this study intends to characterize the profile of social workers inserted in the PTFD in municipalities of the region of health of Alagoinhas/BA; reflect on the socio-institutional determinants that impact the professional exercise of social workers; mapping the interventivas demands and actions of social workers in enabling access to health at PTFD and; check if the interventivas actions of social workers inserted in the PTFD are in line with the precepts of the laws that govern and regulate the professional exercise. In order to unravel some of the minutiae of daily life, we opted for the method of analysis historical materialism dialectic, configuring exploratory research with qualitative approach, using documentary sources of information, and oral literature, with the use of semi-structured interview techniques and systematic observation. The results obtained by the analysis of this research suggest, grosso modo, that social workers have exercised their work in the spaces of PTFD occupational health in the region of Alagoinhas, focus of the study, in concrete situations of work not conducive to compliance with the ethical conditions and techniques of professional exercise, given the precarious institutional conditions, the fragilities of employment contracts, low wages among other constraints of the dynamics of wage society in the current situation. As the demands of users these have been answered in the immediacy and emergency form presenting itself fragmented and heterogeneous, while the institutional demands have ordered new assignments, which are not always inherent in the prerogatives of professional social workers. Among the professional responses, we observed positions consistent with the laws that normatizam the profession. Also professional responses to identify possible trends reifying breeding practices of conservatism, conformatadas by intense bureaucratization in the light of pragmatism and praticismo, whose routine Social Worker finds no possibilities for critical reflection of the real in its entirety, Staying in a vision of everyday micro appearance of lived, succumbing, in many situations, a perception of the world which refracts the essence of the complexity of social life.
