Effect of twist, fineness, loading rate and length on tensile behavior of multifilament yarn

Rypl, Rostislav, Vořechovský, Miroslav, Sköck-Hartmann, Britta, Chudoba, Rostislav, Gries, Thomas 03 June 2009 (has links) (PDF)
The idea underlying the present study was to apply twisting in order to introduce different levels of transverse pressure. The modified structure affected both the bonding level and the evolution of the damage in the yarn. In order to isolate this effect in a broader context, additional parameters were included in the experiment design, namely effects of loading rate, specimen length and filament diameter (directly linked to the fineness of the yarn). These factors have been studied in various contexts by several authors. Some related studies on involved factors will be briefly reviewed.

Lien entre structure et propriétés électroniques des moirés de graphène étudié par microscopie à effet tunnel / Link between structural and electronic properties of moirés of graphene studied by scanning tunneling microscopy

Huder, Loïc 29 November 2017 (has links)
Recent years have seen the emergence of two-dimensional crystalline layers, called 2D materials. Examples include the well-known graphene, insulating hexagonal boron nitride and superconducting niobium diselenide. The stacking of these 2D materials can be controlled to achieve desirable electronic properties under the form of van der Waals heterostructures. One of the simplest van der Waals heterostructures is the misaligned stacking of two graphene layers. Twisted graphene layers show a moiré pattern which can be viewed as a superperiodic potential that depends on the twist angle. The electronic properties of the twisted graphene layers are strongly linked to this moiré pattern. The subject of the present thesis is the experimental study of the link between the structural and the electronic properties of twisted graphene layers by means of low-temperature Scanning Tunneling Microscopy and Spectroscopy (STM/STS).While the effect of the twist angle has already been studied in great details, the modulation of the electronic properties by the deformation of the layers has been explored only recently. In the first part of this experimental work, a strain-driven modification of the electronic properties is probed in graphene layers with a twist angle of 1.26° grown on silicon carbide. The determined strain is found to be different in the two layers leading to a clear signature in the local electronic density of states of the moiré even at low strain magnitudes. Contrary to a strain applied in the two layers, this difference of strain between the layers (relative strain) modifies strongly the electronic band structure even at low strain magnitudes. While this relative strain is natively present, the second part of the work explores the effect of an applied strain in the layers. This is realized by approaching the STM tip to the graphene surface to trigger an interaction between the two. The resulting active modification of the density of states is shown to depend on the position on the moiré, leading to periodic instabilities at very low tip-sample distances. In the third part of the work, another type of modification of the electronic properties is studied when superconductivity was induced in the graphene layers. This is done by growing graphene on superconducting tantalum carbide in a single-step annealing. The results show the formation of a high-quality tantalum carbide layer on which graphene layers form moiré patterns. The low-temperature density of states of these moirés show evidence of a superconducting proximity effect induced by the tantalum carbide.

Generalized geometry of type Bn

Rubio, Roberto January 2014 (has links)
Generalized geometry of type Bn is the study of geometric structures in T+T*+1, the sum of the tangent and cotangent bundles of a manifold and a trivial rank 1 bundle. The symmetries of this theory include, apart from B-fields, the novel A-fields. The relation between Bn-geometry and usual generalized geometry is stated via generalized reduction. We show that it is possible to twist T+T*+1 by choosing a closed 2-form F and a 3-form H such that dH+F2=0. This motivates the definition of an odd exact Courant algebroid. When twisting, the differential on forms gets twisted by d+Fτ+H. We compute the cohomology of this differential, give some examples, and state its relation with T-duality when F is integral. We define Bn-generalized complex structures (Bn-gcs), which exist both in even and odd dimensional manifolds. We show that complex, symplectic, cosymplectic and normal almost contact structures are examples of Bn-gcs. A Bn-gcs is equivalent to a decomposition (T+T*+1)ℂ= L + L + U. We show that there is a differential operator on the exterior bundle of L+U, which turns L+U into a Lie algebroid by considering the derived bracket. We state and prove the Maurer-Cartan equation for a Bn-gcs. We then work on surfaces. By the irreducibility of the spinor representations for signature (n+1,n), there is no distinction between even and odd Bn-gcs, so the type change phenomenon already occurs on surfaces. We deal with normal forms and L+U-cohomology. We finish by defining G22-structures on 3-manifolds, a structure with no analogue in usual generalized geometry. We prove an analogue of the Moser argument and describe the cone of G22-structures in cohomology.

Neste contexto, as moclulações associadas a superfícies mínimas apresentaram bons desempenhos, pois tais modulações são pontos críticos do erro quadrático médio. Finalizamos este trabalho notando que na maioria das vezes que o espaço hiperbólico é utilizado nos blocos ele um sistema ele comunicações, o desempenho desse sistema tende a se aproximar do ponto ótimo de operação / Abstract: ln general, the Euclidian space is used in the design and performance analysis in most of the current communication systems. ln this thesis, we note that the model of a communication system is not necessarily restricted to the Euclidian space, more precisely, the model can be linked to Riemannian manifolds. Thus, the communication systems could be analyed in a broader context, in which the curvature of space influence on their performance. As an example, we studied the curvature of optical medium and propose new profiles of waveguides, optical fibers and lenses of practical interest. Moreover, we have characterized the curvature of twisted modulations and found that the maximum value allowed for the average energy of noise is related to the value of the curvature of the modulation. ln this context, the modulation associatecl with minimal surfaces showed good performance, because these modulations are critical points of minimum the mean-square error. VVe show that the signal space has induced metric associated with surface of the modulation. Thus, we have shown that the signal space with negative curvature is the space where the average error probability decrease a function of the curvature. Thus, some examples of geometrically uniform signal constellations were constructecl and analyzed on Riemannian manifolds. Finally we note that most of the time that hyperbolic space is considered in blocks of a communication system, then the performance of this system tends to be closer to the optimum point of operation / Doutorado / Telecomunicações e Telemática / Doutor em Engenharia Elétrica

Theoretical and experimental study on convective boiling inside tubes containing twisted-tape inserts / Estudo teórico e experimental sobre a ebulição convectiva no interior de tubos com fitas retorcidas

Taye Stephen Mogaji 25 March 2014 (has links)
This research comprises an experimental and theoretical study on convective boiling inside tubes containing twisted-tape inserts. The demand for more compact and efficient thermal systems, in which the heat exchangers plays an important role, has led to the development and use of various heat transfer enhancement techniques. Among them twisted-tape insert as a swirl flow device is one of the most used. Twisted-tape inserts have been used for over more than one century ago as a technique of heat transfer enhancement applied to heat exchangers. However, the heat transfer augmentation comes together with pressure drop increment, impacting the pumping power and, consequently, the system efficiency. Moreover, until now it is not clear, the operational conditions under which the heat transfer coefficient augmentation by the use of twisted-tape inserts overcomes pressure drop penalty. In the present study, initially, extensive investigations of the literature concerning convective boiling inside plain tubes with and without twisted-tape inserts were performed. This literature review covers pressure drop, heat transfer coefficient and the leading frictional pressure drop gradient and heat transfer coefficient predictive methods during convective boiling inside tubes with and without twisted-tape inserts. Then, pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient results acquired in the present study were obtained in an experimental apparatus of 12.7 and 15.9 mm ID tubes during flow boiling of R134a for twisted-tape ratios of 3, 4, 9, 14 and tubes without inserts, mass velocities ranging from 75 to 200 kg/m2 s, saturation temperatures of 5 and 15°C and heat fluxes of 5 and 10 kW/m2. The experimental results were parametrically analyzed and compared against the predictive methods from literature. An analysis of the enhancement of the heat transfer coefficient and the pressure drop penalty is presented. Heat transfer coefficient increments up to 45% keeping the same pumping power and pressure drop penalty of about 35% were obtained by using twisted-tape relative to tubes without inserts. Additionally, through comparison of the present study experimental results with the predictive methods from the literature for heat transfer coefficient during two-phase flow inside tube containing twisted-tape inserts, it was verified that non of these methods predict satisfactory well the experimental results. However, a new method was develop for predicting the heat transfer coefficient during flow boiling inside tubes containing twisted-tape inserts based on the experimental results obtained in the present study. The predictive method takes into account the physical picture of the swirl flow phenomenon by including swirl flow effects promoted by the twisted-tape inserts. The proposed method predicts satisfactorily well the data obtained in the present study, predicting 89.1% of the experimental data within an error band of ± 30% and absolute mean deviation of 15.7%.

Cohomology with twisted coefficients of the geometric realization of linking systems / Cohomologie à coefficients tordus de la réalisation géométrique de systèmes de liaison

Molinier, Rémi 17 July 2015 (has links)
The aim of this work is to study the cohomology with twisted coefficients of the geometric realization of linking systems. More precisely, if (S, Ƒ, ℒ) is a p-local finite group, we work on the cohomology H*(\ℒ\, M) of the geometric realization of ℒ with coefficients in a Z(p)[π₁(\ℒ\)]-module M and its links with the Ƒᶜ-stables H*(Ƒᶜ, M) ⊆ H*(S, M) trough the inclusion of BS in \ℒ\. After we give the definition of Ƒᶜ-stable elements , we study the endomorphism of H*(S, M) induced by an Fc-characteristic (S, S)-biset and we show that, if the action is nilpotent- and we assume an hypothesis, we have a natural isomorphism H*(\ℒ\, M) ≌ H* (Fᶜ;M). Secondly, we look at p-solvable actions of π₁(\ℒ\) on M through the notion of p-local subgroups of index a power of p or prime to p. If the action factors through a p'-group, we show that there si also a natural isomorphism. We then work on extending this to any-p-solvable action and we get some positive answer then the p-local finite groupis realizable. Theses leads to the conjecture that it is true for any-p-local finite group and any-p-solvable actions. We also give some tools to study this conjecture on examples. We look at products of p-local finite groups with Kunneth Formula and linking system which can be decomposed in a way which behaves well with Mayer-Vietoris long exact sequence. Finally, we study essential subgroups of wreath productsby Cp. We finish with some examples which illustrate that, in general, we cannot hope an isomorphism between H*(\ℒ\, M) and H*(Ƒᶜ, M).

Deux résultats d'analyse harmonique sur un groupe P-adique tordu / Two results of Harmonic Anlysis on a twisted p-adic group

Cohen, Joël 10 December 2013 (has links)
In this thesis, we show tow results of Harmonic Analysis on réductive p-adic group. The first results extends the matrix Paley-Wiener theorem to the non-connected case. Let G be reductive (non necessarily connected) p-adic group. The Hecke algebra of compactly supported locally constant complex functions on G acts on complex smooth irreducible representations of G. The action of a given function is seen as its Fourier transform. The theorem characterizes the image of the Hecke algebra under the Fourier transform and provides an inversion formula. The second result is the proof of a spectral identity on the so-called twisted GLn group (where n is even, on a p-adic field) for the twisted orbital integral over the twisted stable conjugacy class of antisymetric invertible matrices. We express it as an integral over those irreducible tempered auto-dual representations of GLn whose Langlands' parameter is symplectic. Our proof uses endoscopic transfer.

The thesis comprises two parts. In the first part, we investigate various cohomological aspects of hypercomplex manifolds and analyse the existence of special metrics. In the second part, we define Seiberg-Witten equations on the leaf space of manifolds which admit a Riemannian foliation of codimension four. / Doctorat en Sciences / info:eu-repo/semantics/nonPublished
