Navigating Clandestinity : A qualitative study on rejected unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and solidarity work in Sweden and FranceGanstrand Beltrán, Alexandra January 2020 (has links)
This thesis aims to study how unaccompanied asylum-seeking children navigate through the asylum systems of two European member states, Sweden and France. By using a qualitative approach, five interviews have been conducted in order to study the complex situation of three Afghan young adults, having experienced a rejection to their asylum application in Sweden and who now live in France, engaged together in solidarity work with two European civil society activists and their experiences across these questions. The method used, a narrative analysis, together with theories on citizenship, deportability, and civil society activism helps bring to light how the informants speak about their situation and perceptions of belonging and solidarity. With the European migration policies having become stricter in recent years, this study finds how asylum-seeking migrants have resisted threats of deportability and border control. With civil society activism and solidarity work playing an important role in the migrants supporting themselves, their volunteered engagement can be viewed as crucial when it comes to stepping in with help where the state response has withdrawn, leaving them in a temporary phase and position of clandestinity.

I dagsläget kommer det ett stort antal ensamkommande barn till Sverige. Då målgruppen har vuxit i det svenska samhället har arbetsbelastningen ökat för de socialsekreterare som arbetar med målgruppen. Mot bakgrund av detta anser vi att det är ett viktigt område att studera inom socialt arbete. Studien syftar till att belysa socialsekreterares möte med ensamkommande barn. Vidare vill vi lyfta fram hur socialsekreterarna i studien hanterar de konsekvenser som kan uppstå i ett sådant möte. Coping-teorin kommer att användas för att förstå vilka strategier socialsekreterare använder för att hantera psykiska påfrestningar i arbetet. Då det inte finns mycket forskning kring vårt valda problemområde har vi använt oss av tidigare forskning som belyser hur yrkesverksamma inom snarlika områden hanterar svåra möten med klienter. Utöver det har vi tagit fram forskning kring arbetssituationens betydelse för hur en socialsekreterare hanterar konsekvenser i mötet med klienten. För att få fram relevant information som svarar på studiens syfte har nio semistrukturerade intervjuer genomförts. Den insamlade empirin har analyserats med kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Utifrån analysen fick vi fram tre teman som studiens resultatredovisning bygger på. Dessa teman är När världen står på tröskeln, Att inte slukas med samt Skillnad på då och nu.

<p>The aim of this study is to examine which factors in the receiving-country that have had an influence on three now adult unaccompanied refugee children. The method used in the study is qualitative interviews with the three above-mentioned participants. The results show that some factors are perceived as helpful, having a positive influence on the participants life while other factors are perceived as worsening, having a negative influence on their life. Depending on the context some factors such as age, the Swedish language and housing arrangements have had both positive and negative influences on their life. Positive factors are among other things: access to good treatment and support, help with processing trauma and bad mental health, help with understanding coherence, access to a social network, family reunification, resilience and other internal factors. Negative factors are among other things: loneliness, feeling of powerlessness, mistakes made by public authority and “the long waiting” until they get a residence permit. The results correspond with previous research findings but have also originated new knowledge that can be added on the current field of research. The study investigates the welfare of children in crisis with Unaccompanied Refugee Minors (URMs) from Zimbabwe and the models of pastoral care that are extended to them in a context of HIV and AIDS. Other than the socio-economic and political conditions these children are vulnerable to HIV and AIDS. Many of the children are received at the Central Methodist Church in Johannesburg. They are taken care of by caregivers from Zimbabwe. Some of URMs reside in the Methodist church community centre in Soweto and some reside in the Central Methodist Church building in Johannesburg. This study is done from an African perspective of pastoral care in a context of HIV and AIDS. It seeks to study pastoral care that is organic using the reality of URMs in a context of HIV and AIDS. The Central Methodist Church received URMs as a form of pastoral care, but it is not clear what models of pastoral care are used to care for them. This grounded theory study used data collected through interviews and narrative research (story telling) from 20 URMs and 3 Care givers from Zimbabwe and Bishop Paul Verryn the head of the Central Methodist Church in Johannesburg. Analyzed data was used to describe in detail URMs and their Care givers‟ understanding of pastoral care as well as the models of pastoral care offered to URMs in a context of HIV and AIDS. Finally, the findings lead to a contextual pastoral care model with children in crisis in a context of HIV and AIDS. This study formulated this contextual model as a cultural-gendered pastoral care model with children in crisis in a context of HIV and AIDS. The model was established to develop a practical method to use in practical theology and pastoral care in the care for children in crisis without adult guidance in a context of HIV and AIDS.
