Proceedings of the 19th Bilateral Student Workshop CTU Prague

21 July 2017 (has links) (PDF)
This technical report publishes the proceedings of the 19th Prague Workshop, which was held from 27th to 28. November 2015. The workshop offers a possibility for young scientists to present their current research work in the fields of computer graphics, human-computer-interaction, robotics and usability. The works is meant as a platform to bring together researchers from both the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) and the University of Applied Sciences Dresden (HTW). The German Academic Exchange Service offers its financial support to allow student participants the bilateral exchange between Prague and Dresden.

Analýza vlivu konvencí na použitelnost UI / An Analysis of the Impact of UI Conventions on Usability

Toušek, Pavel January 2011 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the impact of user interface's compliance with different platform conventions on usability measures and user habits. Theoretical background is provided by usability guidelines and preceding research papers on related topics. Conducted research incorporates techniques of unmoderated remote usability testing for obtaining quantitative data on usability of three different prototypes of the same web application with different graphical user interfaces. Confirmatory data analysis proves differences between prototypes' usability measures, more importantly, it proves utilization of different user habits in each tested visual interface type. These results broaden the knowledge of user habits in relation to the interface environment.

Fighting the jar of gherkins

Hentschel, Christian January 2011 (has links)
Opening food packages without additional aids is a common problem, which especially affects elder people. A study carried out at the Professorship of Human Factors and Ergonomics shows results of opening successes at a variety of packages. Opening a jar of gherkins proved to be a challenging task for the majority of the test persons. Further examples of badly designed packages as well as good solutions are introduced.

Strukturelle Untersuchung einer IDE mit dem Ziel einer möglichst frei skalierbaren Anpassung der IDE von Lazarus

Kuhardt, Michael 30 March 2010 (has links)

Finding the problem : Improvements to increase efficiency and usability when troubleshooting

Eliasson, Nina January 2020 (has links)
In a time where competition for software services is big and the time to market crucial, speed and productivity is the key to competing with other organizations. One of the competitors is Spotify, who provide an audio streaming platform to 286 million monthly active users around the world. Due to the number of users, a disturbance in the service has a great impact. In order to avoid disturbances, the back-end developers have to locate and solve the issue fast. To be able to identify user problems and frustrations with a troubleshooting tool, fifteen interviews and five observations were conducted. The resulting data, combined with the five-step Design Thinking model, resulted in the two defined problems: finding specific information and narrowing the problem space. Furthermore, a search feature and a feature to customize the view, were tested on a middle-fidelity prototype to investigate the impact on troubleshooting and the usability of the tool.

Interface Design – a User-Centered Design Process : A qualitative study how to improve the Usability of a web-based consumer tool that measuring the quality of streamed videos

Larsson, Ingrid January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this examination is to study how to create a user-friendly interface to a new non-released website. The research has been done in collaboration with the research institute Acreo and a project named Streamingkollen; a consumer tool that aims to improve the customer’s quality of experience (QoE) of streamed videos by measuring the video streaming quality.     In this study the focus has consequently been placed on the users of the service, in order to optimize their experience of the website and the interface.    In order to achieve a high level of usability, a user centered design process has been used. A user analysis, a heuristic evaluation and user tests on prototypes have been used as methods in the design process and the development of the interface.    The result from the user tests shows that the major reason why the user disliked, felt frustrated or couldn’t manage the service was when the design of the site was not consistent and minimal, when words, phrases and concepts on the site were not familiar and communicated in the same language as the users and when they lacked informative feedback of the operations made on the site.    The user-centered development in the study gave good results; many of the potential usability problems were identified and avoided.
