Media Use and Body Image Among Senior Participants of the World Senior Games

Harding, Lisa Nicole 18 November 2009 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between media use and body image in senior citizens. This study specifically targeted older people who participate in regular physical activity. Seniors participating in the 2006 Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah were surveyed concerning current body image and total media use. The sample included 691 participants. Lower body image scores were recorded among seniors who watched greater amounts of television. Magazine readership and body image displayed no relationship among men or women. Total media use did not influence body image scores among seniors. Male participants exhibited a stronger relationship than female participants between television use and low body image scores. Results indicated that males were vulnerable to messages targeting body image in a similar way to that of females. The findings of this study suggest that individuals may still be influenced by ultra thin images prevalent in media well into their older years.

Creating an Expected Profile for Affinity 2.5 from a Sample of Non-Pedophilic, Exculsively Heterosexual, College-Age Females

Worsham, Marie 18 May 2010 (has links) (PDF)
The Affinity, an instrument designed to measure sexual interest using viewing time, has recently been upgraded from version 2.0 to version 2.5. The Affinity presents slides depicting non-pornographic images of people varying by age and gender. The expected Chi square weights established for Affinity 2.0 for non-pedophilic, exclusively heterosexual females may have been impacted by Affinity 2.5's 42.9% increase in the number of slides. There were two purposes to this study. The first was to establish new expected Chi square weights for non-pedophilic, exclusively heterosexual females using Affinity 2.5. The second purpose was to employ a Chi square procedure (in place of traditional correlational methods) to re-examine the temporal stability of the Affinity 2.0. Data from 63 participants, who were administered the Affinity 2.5, were analyzed. Results of the analyses revealed notable similarity between the expected Chi square weights created for Affinity 2.5 and those for Affinity 2.0. The re-examination of Affinity 2.0 temporal stability using Chi-square procedures suggested that 86% of subjects were consistent in their responses from time 1 to time 2.

Screening and Diagnostic Validity of Affinity 2.5

Stephenson, Heather Lynn 28 August 2014 (has links) (PDF)
Affinity 2.5 is a computer-based instrument designed to assess sexual interest using viewing-time measures. Viewing-time measures of sexual interest have been developed to identify individuals with deviant sexual interest. The purpose of this study is to examine the validity of Affinity 2.5 in screening and diagnosing individuals with sexually deviant interests. This study used viewing time profiles of known sexual offenders compared to norm-referenced profiles of an exclusively heterosexual, non-pedophilic college population. Participants were 155 males and 3 females who had sexually offended against children and 63 male and 84 female non-offender college students. Results show that 43.7% of offenders were correctly identified as having significantly deviant sexual interest, compared to the reference group. Further 12.0% of offenders showed statistical significant interest in at least one category of individuals from a protected population and offended against that same category. The results of this study do not provide support for the utility of the Affinity 2.5 as a screening or diagnostic tool.

Feature development for esports broadcasts with a focus on the intermission between matches / Funktionsutveckling för esportssändningar med ett fokus på pauser mellan matcher

Söderin, Jonathan January 2017 (has links)
In a world where esports is growing quicker than ever and is looking towards traditional sports for guidance, taking a look at the format of both esports broadcasts and online streaming in general can give beneficial insights. This paper aims to evaluate if the format of esports broadcasts should no longer let itself be influenced by traditional sports and instead follow the habits and motivations behind esport’s online viewership itself. With a focus on the breaks and intermissions between matches in esports broadcasts, this paper takes a closer look at user behaviour during these specific timeframes and how to leverage these insights for feature development on broadcasting platforms. To best understand the online esport audience, a qualitative research method was employed. Semi-structured interviews with six viewers of esports and four industry professionals were conducted in order to gather valuable data. What can be seen from the study is that the biggest contribution for enjoyment when watching esports is the aspect of seeing skilled teams and individuals face-off in a quality oriented production. The motivation of being inspired and learning from watching esports is greatly valued. The study also reveals that viewers are more interested in individual esport competitors rather than teams. As an outcome, future broadcasting platform features should focus on learning how specific individuals succeed and where others do not. Features for the breaks and intermissions of broadcasts should have a strong focus on sound rather than visuals as viewer behaviours indicate that they want to do other activities simultaneously. Content that can be consumed using only sound during breaks is therefore advised even though the visuals should not be forgotten completely.

Såld före visning : en studie om fenomenet såld före visning och dess konsekvenser / Sold before viewing : A study of the phenomenon sold before viewing and the possible consequences in such business deals

Thorson, Lovisa, Reittu, Rebecka January 2018 (has links)
The phenomenon "sold before viewing" is currently not as common in the Swedish housing market as in previous years. The main reason for this is that the housing market has stabilized. Our study focuses on examining why pre-viewing purchases occurs, the reason as well as how brokers, sellers and buyers are affected.  We have chosen to study sold before viewing because today this phenomenon is constantly recurring - more frequent in certain situations and even more so at certain market climates. We want to understand what consequences the phenomenon has on the different parties of a housing deal. We have looked into what a traditional sale looks like in order to see how it differs from a deal where the object is sold before viewing. In order to answer the questions we raised, interviews were conducted with four different brokers, as well as one broker assistant from various real estate agencies.  The conclusion we reached is that sold before viewing can occur in all types of market climate, but the phenomenon is clearly most common when the housing market is strong or even more so when the market is overheated. We estimate that pre-viewing purchases can provide benefits to all parties of varying degrees depending on the situation,  Our standpoint is that the consequences of the phenomenon sold before viewing is more negative than positive, taking an overall view over how it affects the buyer, the seller and even more so the broker. On top of that we have found support from authorities and researchers pointing at that a dysfunctional housing market can have severe negative effect on the total national economy – which of course also affects the individuals as well.  We have also taken in the view that the legislator has attempted to provide the market with rules so that no party is compromised, and that all business are being executed at as fair terms as possible. Our recommendation is that if it’s not doable to legislate around excessively fast business in the housing market, thus by law force buyers to a duty of examination, and/or force sellers to execute open viewings with a minimum of days between viewing and closing a deal – which would have an immediate effect – stakeholders such as branch organizations, should express much more powerful recommendations, as those mentioned above, so that the velocity of housing business is slowing down even in the most overheated market.
