Setting the Tone: A Newspaper Analysis on Canada’s Decision to Impose a Visa Requirement on the Czech Republic

Adatia, Rishma 30 April 2012 (has links)
This thesis examines Canada’s imposition of a visa requirement on visitors from the Czech Republic. By analyzing articles in three major Canadian newspapers, I conduct an Althusserian (theory that “culture ventures” are part of the Ideological State Apparatus), analysis. The thesis demonstrates that a dominant ideological viewpoint – a pro-capitalist ideology supported by a racist ideology – was evident in the coverage in all three newspapers. Additionally, this thesis addresses the presence of more ‘even-handed’ discussions of the conditions of the Roma, including experiences of racism and discrimination in the Czech Republic. I conclude that the newspapers present ideological views, with occasional exceptions.

Tarjeta Entel Visa Premium

Garrido, Juan José, Gaubeca, José Ignacio 10 1900 (has links)

Protecting the rights of temporary foreign 'low-skilled' workers in the Saudi construction industry : a case for legal reform

Almutairi, Abdullah Moied S. January 2017 (has links)
This thesis is a socio-legal study of the employment conditions of temporary foreign workers (TFWs) in the Saudi Arabian labour market in general and the construction sector in particular, with emphasis on low-skilled TFWs. This thesis adopts a socio-legal approach to the human rights situation of low-skilled TFWs working in the Saudi construction sector. By using migration theories, a human rights-based approach and Islamic perspectives on labour rights, the study questions the efficacy of Saudi domestic law in providing protection to low-skilled foreign workers in the construction sector. This is done by examining the current labour admission policies and the structure of the regulatory framework, including the ‘kafala’ system, recruitment procedures, employment law, working conditions, occupational safety and health hazards and access to the justice system. Grounded theory methodology is followed, with empirical data collection using semi-structured interviewing techniques in two major Saudi cities, Riyadh and Makkah. The data collected from the fieldwork provides the basis for understanding the current situation of low-skilled TFWs, by listening to their experiences. The thesis finds a link between the legal status of temporary foreign workers and the work visa system, which leads to a continuation of exploitation, mistreatment, discrimination, forced labour and the servitude of foreign labour in Saudi Arabia.

Discrepancies in European Union policies towards illegal immigration : The securitisation of the visa-overstayer and the irregular migrant

Hansen, Frida January 2020 (has links)
Visa-liberalisation agreements are commonly used as an incentive by the EU to encourage cooperation within the realm of border and migration management with its neighbouring countries. The ultimate aim of these agreements is to reduce irregular migration to Schengen territory, something that has been percieved as an increasingly urgent issue for European policy makers in the wake of the 2015 'migration crisis'. However, the use of visa liberalisation agreements in such a fashion appears contradictory considering that most irregular migrants in the EU most likely are visa-overstayers. This essay takes of in this apparent puzzle and argues that securitisation theory might help us better understand this discrepancy. While the construction of the migrant as a security threat in Europe has been thoroughly examined, differences in securitisation between grups of irregular migrants are often left out of the discussion or only implicitly mentioned. By examining the discourse and practices of a central EU agency in regard to border and migration management, FRONTEX, this thesis shows that visa-overstayers are routinely left out of the securitised discussion on irregular migration, thus rendering EU policies asymmetrically occupied with irregular migration by means of 'illegal entry'. However, the thesis also uncovers a more conplex set of ideas that show that although visa-overstayers are not conceptulised as threats to security in discourse on par with other categories of irregular migrants, visa-goers and other travellers are, too, incresingly subjected to a rationale of survaillance and risk.

: En systematisk litteraturstudie / Is eccentric exercise the best treatment for achilles tendinopathy? : A systematic review

Trogen, Josefin, Ringmar, Clara January 2021 (has links)
Metod: Systematisk litteraturstudie. Sökningen genomfördes i databasen PubMed. / Background: Achilles tendon issues is a common problem among athletes on all levels. The problem can cause pain and loss of function. Eccentric exercise is a somewhat gold standard and often used in the clinical setting although the level of evidence is limited and conflicting. Objective: Map the evidence of eccentric exercise as a treatment for achilles tendinopathy. Method: A systematic review. The search was conducted in the Pubmed database. The included studies were analyzed using the PEDro scale and the evidence was graded using the GRADEstud. Results: The literature search identified 7 studies that were included with a total of 448 participants. The studies received a moderate-high quality on PEDro. The level of evidence at 8-16 weeks was moderate (+++) and at 52 weeks very low (+). Eccentric exercise had a lower effect than heel lifts and acupuncture measured with VISA-A. Eccentric exercise had a similar effect on VISA-A as passive stretch and heavy slow resistance. At 52 weeks the effect of eccentric exercise was the same as prolotherapy injections and heavy slow resistance. Conclusion: Eccentric exercise might have an effect as treatment for achilles tendinopathy, but the effect is the same or lower than other treatment options measured with VISA-A and might depend on the natural healing process or the participation in a study. The level of evidence for eccentric exercise was graded at 8-16 and 52 weeks respectively, as moderate (+++) and very low (+). This is based on studies of moderate to high quality.

The visa application process at the South African High Commission in Swaziland in the context of national security

Hlongwane, Zanele Gladys 17 February 2014 (has links)
Thesis (M.M. (Security))--University of the Witwatersrand, Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management, Graduate School of Public and Development Management, 2013. / Every country has the sovereign right to decide who may or may not enter its territory. Possession of a visa does not guarantee automatic admission to the Republic of South Africa (RSA). It only authorises the holder to proceed to the Republic to report to an immigration officer at a port of entry for the purpose of being examined as to his / her ability or otherwise, to comply with the entry requirements. The purpose of a visa on the one hand is to ensure proper screening of applicants so that undesirable persons are not admitted to the Republic and on the other hand to facilitate the entry of approved applicants at South African ports of entry. Visa provides immigration officers with the necessary information to ensure that applicants are admitted for the correct purpose and period into the RSA. Visa and immigration policy together determine who can come into South Africa for admission. This paper explores visa process at the South African High Commission in Swaziland in the context of national security. The survey for visa applicants and staff members at the mission was conducted in order to determine the challenges that are faced during visa processing. The paper concludes by putting forward suggested recommendations that can assist in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the visa process at the mission in the context of national security.
