Valle-Inclán OradorSánchez-Colomer Ruiz, M. Fernanda 19 November 2002 (has links)
Valle-Inclán wasn't an occasional orator, but he gave lectures all over his life. So far, we have a total of fifty seven documented lectures, and that without counting the speeches pronounced at banquets and homages, which are excluded from this study because of its merely circumstancial character. The contents of the lectures have reached us through journalistic reviews, some of them being already object of specific studies. There wasn't, however, a study of the ensemble, for the figure of the orator Valle-Inclán as for the contents of his discourses. This doctoral thesis deals with this analysis in a triple sense. Firstly, the panorama of Oratory in Valle-Inclán's time is drawn referring to religious preachment as to the public speech of politicians and intellectuals and in a parallel way, is tracked the presence of orators in the work of Valle-Inclán. In second place, the figure of the orator Valle-Inclán and his idea of Oratory are reconstructed, making clear the connexions between his theorical concepts and his rhetoric tradition; likewise, it's evident the evolution of the writer's oratory style and it can be followed in the reception of his speeches. At last, it's done a thematic analysis of the discourses, which is linked to these great blocks: aesthetic quietism, the vision of Spain, Fine Arts, the literary style and the ideas about the novel. In the Bibliography its included a chart with all the conferences documented up to the moment, and in the documentary appendix, there are three transcripted unknown reviews of Valle-Inclán lectures.

The dissertation focuses on the analysis of the main character of the Sonatas by Ramón del Valle-Inclán. The four novels can be considered one of the main examples of Spanish Modernist prose and are presented by the author as the “memorias amables” of Xavier de Bradomín, a Don Juan “feo, católico y sentimental”. The dissertation describes the features of this character underlining the differences among the way he is presented in the tetralogy, the traditional features of the Don Juan stereotype and the expression of the originality and modernity of Valle-Inclán’s temperament. The first chapter includes a biographical note on the author, describes his cultural background, the critical panorama of Valle-Inclán’s literary production and the main themes of the Sonatas. The second chapter analyses the contents, language and style of the four novels. The third and fourth chapters provide a comparative analysis of the novels, with a specific interest for the evolution of the character and the main features he shares with his author.

Dehumanization in the Theater of Valle-Inclán and MuñizBurgess, Debra S. 12 1900 (has links)
This study proposes to establish an intrinsic relationship between Valle-Inclán and Muñiz based on the theme of dehumanization in their theater. It examines (1) the stylistic techniques which each playwright uses to depersonalize his characters, (2) the manner in which these characters dehumanize each other, (3) the role of society as the agent of dehumanization, and finally, due to each author's preoccupation with one social convention in particular (4) the devastating effects on men of the vestiges of an outmoded code of honor. The principal works used for the study are Valle-Inclán's Martes de carnaval, Luces de Bohemia, and Divinas palabras, and El tintero, Un solo de saxofón, Las viejas difíciles, and El grillo by Carlos Muñiz. Such an analysis proposes to reveal a profound literary affinity between these two writers, a bond which unites Valle-Inclán and Muñiz in a common protest against the dehumanization of mankind.

Valle-Inclán y 'Tirano Banderas' a escena : una transducción intermedialGertrúdix González, Silvia 01 1900 (has links)
The goal of this thesis is a stage adaptation of the novel 'Tirano Banderas' (1926) by Spanish writer Ramón María del Valle-Inclán. Dramaturgical research into the process of transduction, that is, the interpretation and transformation of the original text by Valle-Inclán, has led to the creation of a director's notebook, a document that unites the objectives of the "Tirano Banderas" performance, focusing on the primary elements of the representation. Sketches of the set, makeup, a CD with music, the musical score, and an audiovisual document of varios pilot scenes have been added to the Appendix.
