No. of bitstreams: 1 2012_tese_maaraujo.pdf: 3318636 bytes, checksum: dc2e21ad4f7ac15aeac50ed200024ea2 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012 / The present study inquires into cognitive and symbolic perceptions of individuals from the town of Fortaleza who adopt a vegetarian diet for religious motivations. They belong to a yoga line, in scope of the new religious movements. This study took place in the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University – BKWSU, in the aforementioned city, between the years 2007 and 2011, and used as methodological tools participant observation and semi-structured interviews with students and professors of this spiritual movement with a neo-hindu face. Initial interest was to understand foodrelated representations and practices, but as the research went on, the existence of a semantic confluence between religious sentiment and food became evident, both converging to the construction of a brahmin life regimen. So, food has its meaning widened and is considered here as a sign/metaphor to think the body and soul relationship, suggested by the behavior code – maryadas – of this spiritual movement. For the participants of this group, forms of thinking, feeling and seeing the world are the expression of a collective belonging, which is, at the same time, subjectified and resignified in terms of the self-improvement process and sacralisation of the world.

Ingelsson, Frida, Ingvarsson, Martina January 2017 (has links)
Background Vegetarian food has both environmental and health benefits. Dietary patterns are formed at an early age. It has been shown that the home environment influence children's attitudes toward vegetarian meals, depending on the food that is available at home and how the family consume and relate to it. The schools who offers vegetarian meals has also proved to influence students’ attitudes towards that type of meals in a positive direction. Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate primary school students’ consumption of and attitudes towards vegetarian food, and if there are any differences between the sexes in terms of consumption and attitude. The study also aimed to examine possible associations between attitudes towards vegetarian food, the consumption of vegetarian food at home and the availability of vegetarian meals in school. Method The survey was conducted through an online questionnaire that was distributed to primary school students from two selected schools in Västerbotten, during spring 2017. The responses (n=104) were analyzed with Chi2 square test, with the significant level of p < 0.05. Results Girls ate vegetarian food more widely both at home (p=0,010) and at school (p=0,039). Students who ate vegetarian food at home were also more positive about that type of meal. In the school where the vegetarian food was available to everybody, the students were also more positive to this type of food. Conclusion Our conclusion is that both school and family can influence children’s and young people’s consumption of and attitudes toward vegetarian food. However, many other factors that can affect children’s and young people’s food choices and therefore must more studies be done.

How does governance documents contribute to knowledge learning? : A study on how governance documents is applicable in school operations.

Hagberg, Ingrid January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine the governing documents that are related to the Swedish schooling and it’s food program and to investigate the conditions for teachers and educators to teach food and environment topics to students based on the documents vision. The focus of this study has been to compare how government control documents are actually applicable to childrens perceived reality as well as which factors are decisive for the outcome.Selected methods in the study are observation and thematic analysis. In total, three control document rolls have been selected and analyzed. In addition to document analysis, three observations have been made on different groups, all of whom are students in grade four. Based on the purpose of the study, the collected data material was analyzed using thematic analysis. The result shows that there is a difficulty in the fact that children does not experience reality in a similar way as the responsible officials who formulate the steering documents does. How school students actually experience their everyday lives, their opinions and their priorities does not match with the visions in the documents. The work of filling the space between visions and reality lands on educators and teachers who play and play a crucial role.
