An Analysis of Kaohsiung Film Archive's Movie Audiences' Lifestyles

Cheng, Yi-Ping 11 August 2010 (has links)
This study concerns with the characters, movie watching behaviors and lifestyles of the audiences of Kaohsiung Film Archive. Kaohsiung Film Archive, one of the local cultural museums in Kaohsiung city, provides film exhibitions and movie activities for people. The museum studies in Taiwan seldom discussed the audiences¡¦ behaviors based on personal psychological variables. On the other hand, most of the researches about movie viewers were focused in Taipei. This study attempts to reveal the differences of viewers between Kaohsiung Film Archive and other movie theaters. Some marketing suggestions for Kaohsiung Film Archive will be raised based on this study. This research has been conducted by questionnaire surveies from January 20th, 2010 to February 10th, 2010 in Kaohsiung Film Archive daily. 387 valid questionnaires are collected from the audience going to the screen room on the 3rd floor. The result shows: The majority of the movie viewers in Kaohsiung Film Archive are college-educated. The ratio of femail audience to male is 6:4. Their age distributes equally from the youth to retirements. Many people attend movies alone in Kaohsiung Film Archive, and plan the trips in advance. Their motivations to watch movies and the criteria for choosing movies are similar to the results found in the past. Except the mainstream romance and comedy, the study also finds that the audiences¡¦ favorite movie genres include non-mainstream art, documentary, and adaption of literary etc. With respect to viewers¡¦ lifestyles, there are 27 questions in the study listed on the scale meter. By using factor analysis and reliability tests, six common factors can be classified: ¡§loving cinematography,¡¨ ¡§independent and appreciative,¡¨ ¡§engaging in community activities,¡¨ ¡§enjoying family life,¡¨ ¡§taking part in social activities,¡¨ and ¡§calm and gentle nature.¡¨ These common factors further can be divided into 3 groups: ¡§pragmatic,¡¨ ¡§art and leisure¡¨ and ¡§fashion and dynamic.¡¨ The characters and movie-watching behaviors of these three groups are quite different. The age of ¡§pragmatic¡¨ people are relatively aged. They don¡¦t have paracticular vhoice of movie genres. The most frequently moviegoers are ¡§art and leisure¡¨ people, distributed in all ages. They like to watch non-mainstream art and documentary movies. ¡§Fashion and dynamic¡¨ group is the youngest people. Their choices of movies are the same as normal movie audiences.

Through the looking glass: a semiotic analysis and experimental test of pace and angle effects in television advertising

Larsen, Val 27 August 2007 (has links)
This dissertation addressed two broad questions: a) is it possible to systematically describe dimensions of form on which montage varies in TV advertising, and b) given that dimensions can be identified, how do variations in form affect viewer responses to ads? The first question was addressed through a semiotic analysis of ad form, the second question through an experiment that tested for pace and angle effects on brand learning and brand attitudes. The semiotic analysis built upon the work of C.S. Peirce, Christian Metz, Gerard Genette, and Herbert Zettl. Using our normal experience of time and space as a kind of deep structural baseline, it formally defined such montage variables as pace, angle, horizon, color, the camera cut and camera movement, and paradigmatic/syntagmatic shot syntax. Mathematical or quasi-mathematical notation was developed to describe the range of values possible for these variables. In the experimental portion of the study, the effects of pace and angle were tested within a composite ad response model that combined two competing theories -- distraction theory (which predicts a negative distraction effect for abnormal pace and angle values) and the dual-mediation hypothesis (which predicts a positive attention effect) . The results were consistent with distraction theory, i.e., abnormal executions resulted in significantly lower brand learning and brand attitudes. / Ph. D.

The Facing-the-Viewer Bias in the Perception of Depth Ambiguous Human Figures

Weech, SEAMAS 13 August 2013 (has links)
Orthographically-projected biological motion point-light displays generally contain no information about their in-depth orientation, yet observers consistently prefer the facing-the-viewer (FTV) interpretation (Vanrie, Dekeyser and Verfaillie, 2004). This bias has been attributed to the social relevance of such stimuli (Brooks et al., 2008) although local stimulus properties appear to influence the bias (Schouten, Troje and Verfaillie, 2011). In the present study we investigated the cause of the FTV bias. In Experiment 1 we compared FTV bias for various configurations of stick-figures and depth ambiguous human silhouettes. The FTV bias was not present for silhouettes, but was strongly elicited for most stick-figures. We concluded that local attitude assignments for intrinsic structures of stick-figures are subject to inferences about the flexion of body surfaces, and that a visual bias that assumes surfaces to be convex drives the FTV bias. In Experiment 2 we manipulated silhouettes to permit local attitude assignments by using point-lights on emphasized flexion points. As predicted, the inclusion of intrinsic structures produced FTV bias for silhouettes. The results help to unify various findings regarding the FTV bias. We conclude that the FTV bias emerges during the 2 ½-D sketch stage of visual processing (Marr and Nishihara, 1978). / Thesis (Master, Psychology) -- Queen's University, 2013-08-08 19:06:06.84

Marketingové řízení ve vybraném podniku / Marketing management for selected company

HORNYCH, Michal January 2011 (has links)
Goals of work were realized. A lot of analysis of marketing process were made. Questionnaire´s research of customer satisfaction accomplished. I evaluated present state of business multicinema Cinestar based on the results. Company Cinestar will have to put more emphasis on marketing. Fight for viewers of this company with competing multiplexes are in several places in Czech republic already. Increasing influence of others, especially multimedia recources, provide to potential customers of multicinema entertainment and leisure activities. In subsequent years we can expect further growth in these two largest competitors. Proposed measures to improve the current situation can lead to an increase attendance, according to my estimate, by 10% to 15%. Measures increase the level of services and better meet the needs and requirements of the audience. The work should primarily serve management CineStar as a source of information and suggestions to improve the current state of services primarily in the direction of the audience. It focuses on feedback requirements and needs of viewers and thus help the management of CineStar to more deeper understanding. The proposed measures are the logical result and an estimated contribution to society and enhance competitiveness, for the establishment, are not negligible. Work can serve to the public and students as study material of issues of marketing management and operation of multicinemas, and offers scope for further detailed examination of individual characteristics.

"I'm Sixteen and I'm Pregnant": A Rhetorical Analysis of Teen Mom Viewer Influences and Pleasures

January 2012 (has links)
abstract: Research literature and popular press articles were reviewed to uncover the influences and viewer pleasures received from watching reality television. A close semiotic analysis of the reality television program, Teen Mom, was conducted. The semiotic analysis looked at the characters, the structure of the show, and the show's use of graphics and audio to understand the show's influences on viewers. An analysis of the Teen Mom website and online forum was also conducted. Seventy-one viewer posts and 403 viewer responses were analyzed to uncover viewer reactions to the show. The results were significant in three ways. First, the producers of the show claim the show is meant to educate viewers on the effects of teen pregnancy. The analysis found that while the show sends educational messages, it also contradicts itself by glamorizing teen pregnancy. Second, the analysis of the online forum revealed the formation of close online communities among Teen Mom viewers. Third, the website analysis provided evidence of viewer pleasure resulting from voyeuristic and social comparison tendencies. It is plausible that Teen Mom viewers engage with the show for the opportunity to observe parts of other people's lives they would not normally be permitted to see. At the same time, viewers evaluate themselves in comparison to the Teen Mom cast members. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.A. Communication Studies 2012

Pokročilý prohlížeč HDR obrazů / Advanced HDR image viewer

Wirth, Michal January 2017 (has links)
04.01.17 abstract.txt 1 file:///home/misa/Desktop/dp/abstract.txt The primary purpose of this thesis is to determine criteria for a high- dynamic range (HDR) image viewer accented by computer graphics artists and other users who work with HDR images produced by physically-based renderers on a daily basis. Also an overview of already existing solutions is present. Based on both of them, a new HDR viewer is designed and implemented giving an emphasis on its memory and performance efficiency. For these purposes two alternative image data layouts, Array-of-Structures (AoS) and Structure-of-Arrays (SoA), are discussed and their impact is measured on the speed of an algorithm for changing image saturation which has been selected as a representative part of whole tone mapping process of the viewer. It has turned out that the latter type of layout allows the algorithm to run about 3 times faster or more under the conditions of a defined testing environment. The thesis has two main contributions. First it gives the above users a tool which could help them when working with HDR images. Second it indicates that there may be a potential of significant speed-up of implementations of tone mapping algorithms.
