Website using Silverlight and ASP.NET modulesShastry, Arun P. January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Computing and Information Sciences / Daniel A. Andresen / Developing websites that provide the user with a rich experience has become one of the most important needs of the present day world wide web. This website has been implemented using Microsoft Silverlight 2.0 - one of the front runners among technologies used for creating applications with a rich user experience and ASP.NET.
The main objective of this project is to build parts of a website using Microsoft Silverlight – thus, showcasing the technology’s capabilities in improving user experiences on websites and also explore how these experiences are made possible from a programmer’s point of view. A part of the functionality of the website is also implemented as ASP.NET modules. The background code for both the parts is written in C#. NET.

Website development for Grace Baptist ChurchJiang, Dayou January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Computing and Information Sciences / Torben Amtoft / Grace Baptist church is a Christian church that is actively reaching out to college
students, military families and other groups of people. They aim to impact not only the
community of Manhattan and nearby areas but also to reach around the world with the Gospel. It is very important for the church to have a user friendly website so as to introduce Grace Baptist Church to people who may have an interest in Christianity and church activities. Considering the limitations of the current church website, the administrator of Grace Baptist Church decided to have a new website that better represents the church and attract people to know more about the church’s mission. I and another student Nikhita Addanki from computer science department were working together on this project.
The main objective of this project is to redesign and implement a website for Grace
Baptist Church. The website will be used to post updated information about church events, announcements and opportunities, share videos and blogs, and let people around the world know about Grace Baptist Church and its mission. The new website has a better page appearance, a well organized structure and mobile support. It is implemented using WordPress, a free content management system, so that people from the church can early update the information without knowing much about web techniques.
Alone with the implementation, I also reviewed some articles regarding website usability
and performance to assure the quality of the new website. A performance test has also been conducted to evaluate the result.

Investigating contributions of eye-tracking to website usability testingRussell, Mark C. 05 1900 (has links)
Research applying eye-tracking to usability testing is increasing in popularity. A great deal of data can be obtained with eye-tracking, but there is little guidance as to how eye-movement data can be used in software usability testing. In the current study, users’ eye-movements were recorded while they completed a series of tasks on one of three e-commerce websites specializing in educational toys. Four main research questions were addressed in this study: (1) Are eye-tracking measures correlated with the more traditional measures of website usability (e.g., success, time on task, number of pages visited); (2) Are eye-tracking measures sensitive to differences in task difficulty; (3) Are eye-tracking measures sensitive to differences in site usability; and (4) How does the design of a website drive user eye-movements? Traditional usability performance measures consisted of time on task, number of pages visited, and perceived task difficulty. Eye-tracking measures included the number of fixations, total dwell time, and average fixation duration. In general, all these measures were found to be highly correlated with one another, with the exception of average fixation duration. The two groups of measures generally agreed on differences in task difficulty; tasks showing high scores on one variable (e.g., time on task) showed high results on other measures (e.g., number of fixations). Similar agreement among measures was observed in comparisons of the sites on each task. The unique contributions of eye-tracking to usability testing were best realized in qualitative examinations of eye-tracking data in relation to specific areas of interest (AOIs) on site pages, which demonstrated this to be a useful tool in understanding how aspects of design may drive users’ visual exploration of a web page. / Thesis (Ph.D.)--Wichita State University, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Dept. of Psychology. / "May 2005."

A Study on E-Learning Websites of Elementary and High School Textbook PublishersLin, Chao-yang 12 January 2006 (has links)
With the change of social environment, rapid progress of information technology and the change of learning value, broadband network has become the largest information communication and most influential medium in modern time. Network instruction and digital learning also rapidly involve in the field of traditional teaching and learning.
For the traditional publishers of elementary and high school textbooks, how to acquire pioneering advantages again in new wave of competition becomes the subject explored by this research. This research mainly uses methods such as questionnaire survey, in-depth interview and secondary data analysis to examine the developmental process, current situation of website, future trend of on-line learning websites operated by publishers of elementary and high school textbooks at present and the elementary and high school teachers¡¦ views and suggestions toward on-line learning websites of the publishers of textbooks.
The research finding reveals that the developmental process of on-line learning websites of textbook publishers at present is affected by the policies of government which also directly influences the publishers¡¦ directions to participate in website development & research and operation. As to the requirements of content on websites, developing multimedia materials which are more interesting and comply with teaching is the direction the publishers should work for. With regard to future developmental trend, virtual and realistic integrations are the prospective developmental directions for most of the companies. The websites not only provide teaching resources but also function as the media for publishers¡¦ multiple uses such as marketing, advertisement and service. The teachers¡¦ satisfaction of website utilization also affects the willingness of selecting the textbooks.
The above research findings can provide the direction of designing learning websites for the textbook publishers and function as the base for the policy planning of educational administration and the reference when the teachers use the websites.
