Major Zeman: Verbální vyprávění a film / "Major Zeman": Comparative analysis of verbal narratives and TV serial presentations

Krausová, Martina January 2011 (has links)
The diploma thesis "Major Zeman": Comparative analysis of verbal narratives and TV serial presentations deals with two narrative media that depict the Zeman's story: a literary narrative by Jiří Procházka and its realization as TV series. Factors affecting the resulting form of both versions were identified by means of a gradual analysis of each of the versions. These factors were external interventions made by a management of a TV company and by its professional advisors as well as a mutual rivality of producers of the series. A focus to a TV audience and a literary ambition of Procházka, who attempted to step over the boundaries of a crimi genre, played their roles as well. These all resulted in two differently conceived fiction worlds. The narrative world, built on a myth-building principle, appears to be coherent, joined by an unifying ideological line. On the contrary, the TV series world appears to be scattered.

Student engagement with institutional governance in contemporary Chinese universities: an internationalization process

Cheng, Siyi 13 August 2019 (has links)
In recent decades, China has stood out for its active social experiment with its state-market relations and educational reforms to build internationally competitive universities. Students, as recipients of and participants in these changes, showed stakeholder awareness, subjectivity, and agency in navigating the Chinese university system, but their influence on university decision-making was unclear. Informed by a theoretical framework that incorporated the study of higher education internationalization, the associated concepts of student engagement, and a social, cultural, and institutional examination of the global-local interactions, this study explored student engagement with institutional governance in Chinese universities. Grounded in an interpretivist perspective, the research employed qualitative methods to unpack students’ knowledge construction, referential framework, and constant negotiation. Research questions addressed action patterns, conceptual rationales, and the deciding powers in student engagement. This research provided a contextual analysis of policy practices, individual student experiences, and the possible impact on the international outlook of Chinese higher education. Findings pinpointed overarching power relations within the institutional foundations of Chinese university structures, as they were highly intertwined with the university’s political priorities to create a neutral and stable campus. This is evident in the monopoly of the Communist Youth League in student activities, the institutionalization of student leadership, and the daily supervision of student counsellors. While the students were invited to participate in the peripheral structure of university governance, this structure, in turn, assimilated student voices and dissolved student unrest in the process. In the meantime, the investigation found informal interactions inspired sporadic student actions in spaces with lower-level institutionalization to push against the administrative boundaries. Students demonstrated an exceptional understanding of university power relations and their ability to act purposefully and strategically. Despite substantive internationalization efforts of Chinese HEIs, the analysis did not suggest internationalization had a direct significant connection with student engagement in Chinese university governance. Nonetheless, Western influences on current student-university interactions were manifested in the use of instructional models, the increased use of the English language, and a vision shaped by external knowledge towards more progressive campuses. The significance of this thesis is both scholarly and practical. This study identified the realities of Chinese higher education and the paucity of academic discussion on the student experience in Chinese universities. This research responded to the challenge of accommodating an understanding of the non-Anglo-Saxon experience with student engagement in mainstream theories developed largely in Western contexts. For policymakers and educators, the thesis highlighted the under-explored political dimensions of internationalization and the conditions for meaningful learning and engagement. / Graduate

In this context, a study was carried based on the rationale thinking of international logistics management authors and World Class Logistics model, with the purpose of analyzing the impact of the international logistics cycle activities and the World Class Logistics model competencies on Exporter Flow time. The study was divided into two stages. The first stage, from exploratory nature, of qualitative type, had as its objective to study this phenomenon more deeply and to be familiar with the objective of it. Data was collected through detailed interviews with seven businessmen from Brazilian exporters companies, by maritime modal, from the following sectors: sugar, capital equipment, coffee, paper and wood, and orange juice, treated by content analysis. The information of this analysis through interviews showed that the most important measurement variables, in the international logistics management of each construct of Exporter Logistics Process Cycle were: ―Costs‖, the most mentioned, by 41,6% of exporters interviewed, followed by the following variables: Quality, with 17,6%, Agility, with 14,6% and Confiability, with 11,2%. With the results of the first phase we moved to the second phase, of descriptive nature, of quantitative type, in which the purpose was to identify the correlations among the Exporter Logistics Process Cycle, the World Class Logistics model and the Exporter Flow time. A semi structured survey was used to collect information which was applied to the exporters from the following sectors: sugar, capital equipment, coffee, paper and wood and soya, with the return of 56 surveys answered. Data obtained had been treated through descriptive and multivariate statistics, proved that the Exporter Logistics Process Cycle activities and the World Class Logistics competencies are important to the International Logistics even though they were not statiscally meaningful in the level (α ≤ 0,05) in order to reduce Expoter Flow time. Due to the results obtained, we can conclude the Exporter Logistics Process Cycle activities and World Class Logistics competencies, still need to be worked in order to cause an impact in the time reduction of the Exporter Flow.

[pt] A RELEVÂNCIA DA INDÚSTRIA DE TRANSFORMAÇÃO, LOCUS DO DESIGN INDUSTRIAL, E OS CONDICIONANTES PARA O ALCANCE DE UM PRODUTO DE CLASSE MUNDIAL NA INDÚSTRIA DO MÓVEL RESIDENCIAL DE MADEIRA MACIÇA / [en] THE RELEVANCE OF THE MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY, LOCUS OF INDUSTRIAL DESIGN, AND THE CONDITIONS FOR ACHIEVING A WORLD-CLASS PRODUCT IN THE SOLID WOOD RESIDENTIAL FURNITURE INDUSTRY

ALEXANDRE DE BARROS TEIXEIRA 25 August 2017 (has links)
[en] The overall purpose of this research is to generate knowledge on how and why to achieve a world-class product in the Brazilian manufacturing industry, locus of industrial design, with conclusive focus on the solid wood residential furniture industry. This is important because the manufacturing industry is the sector with the greatest inductive capacity of the economy, this being its strategic value, and for bringing the idea of industry rescue in the face of deindustrialization process. The precondition for this proposal is that the industry is internationally competitive and for that we will need world-class products. The research is a case study involving four industries of solid wood residential furniture to validate the hypothesis that the simultaneous conjunction of design as a strategic tools for business, lean manufacturing and incorporation of digital technology into the industry ecosystem creates favourable conditions to reach a world class product. The choice of cases was made in order to provide for replications of the predicted theory. We used seven categories of data sources and adopted the strategy of following our theoretical proposition that provided subsides to the data collection plan. As an analytical technique we strong emphasis on the overlap between collection and analysis through perceptions recorded alongside the data on display matrix. This also brings the consistencies with the revised literature and the evidence between the cases from where we extracted the cross-patterns that resulted in a list of reference beacons for reaching a world-class product. The conclusion brings the selected cases showing similar results and thus providing consistency with our theoretical propositions. Like all research this one also presents limitations to be explored: to promote analytical generalization with other typologies of manufacturing industries, with other categories of industries since the four selected ones are familiar industries and that the reference beacons are not exhausted in the found ones, with new ones being mapped.
