Investigating job satisfaction of supervisors in the chrome industryDreyer, Wiaan January 2012 (has links)
This study is undertaken to investigate the effect job satisfaction (or dissatisfaction) has on the employees of Xstrata Alloys. Specifically, the focus falls on the supervisors employed at Xstrata’s Boshoek plant. The supervisors form the first line of management and therefore have the opportunity to influence the work force, be it intentionally or unintentionally, either positive or negative. It is the responsibility of every organisation to put measures in place to ensure a workforce of satisfied employees as the productivity and performance of the entire company could rest on this.
This research study focuses on the quantitative method to obtain the necessary data. The Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) short form is specifically used in the collection of data for this study.
A few interesting findings are evident: supervisors that have been in a certain line of work for longer periods of time, perceive themselves to experience less praise for jobs well done, whereas employees who have been appointed in supervisory positions for longer periods of time, have even lower levels of general satisfaction. The supervisors in the different departments are found to differ in their perceptions of certain job satisfaction items. Supervisors in the Admin and Production departments, harbour more positive feelings about some of the items than the supervisors in the Engineering department. A difference in perception is also noted between the supervisors with Afrikaans and other languages as home language, regarding their perception of some of the items of job satisfaction.
It is recommended that future studies should focus on including the whole workforce, opposed to only the supervisors. / Thesis (MBA)--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2013.

Die werkstevredenheid van die hoof in primêre skole in die Noordkaap / Hendrik Cornelis GriffioenGriffioen, Hendrik Cornelis January 1999 (has links)
The aims of this study are to establish: • what work satisfaction entails • which factors influence the work satisfaction of the principal according to the available literature • which factors in teaching practice influences the work satisfaction of the principal.
To achieve these goals both an empirical and a survey of the
literature was conducted. The study of the literature was
undertaken from primary and secondary sources. After the
characteristics and factors of work satisfaction have been
established and discussed, a questionnaire was drafted.
From the literature the following factors, the need of acknowledgement,
the need to excel, relationships within the
school, physical circumstances at work, and the status of
the principal were identified as important.
A systematic sample was used in which principals of primary
schools in the Northern Cape were involved. The information
gathered was processed with the aid of a computer. After
processing, the data was interpreted and findings were
established. According to the findings recommendations were
made.
The empirical investigation indicated that principals have
reasonable work satisfaction but that there still are
certain factors that should be addressed. Some of these
factors are a healthy relationship with pupils, colleagues
and subordinates and the line of communication between the
school and Education Department.
Certain recommendations are made on the basis of the
empirical investigation. The most important recommendations
are that the line of communication between the school and
Education Department should be improved, and that
achievements of the principal in his working environment
should be acknowledged more. / Thesis (MEd)--PU for CHE, 1999

Die invloed van die werksomstandighede van hoërskoolonderwysers op hulle houding teenoor hulle werk en hulle motiveringsvlakBotha, Jan Jakobus 23 July 2008 (has links)
The influence of the work circumstances of high school teachers on their attitude towards their work and their levels of motivation. 1Introduction The working circumstances of high school teachers have changed over the past few years, and more specifically since the implementation of OBE and the rationalisation of teachers. The research presumption is that, as a result of the changes, teachers’ workloads have increased and consequently, they have less time to complete more work. The latter includes preparation for the various learning areas, as well as OBE administration. 2Background Certain elements in teachers’ work circumstances which influence attitudes include the following: The change in work circumstances has resulted in a greater workload which consequently led to an increase in stress levels. Higher stress levels are experienced by teachers worldwide, and not only in South Africa. Teachers have to work longer hours to complete their work. Many teachers don’t experience job satisfaction in their present circumstances. Changes in education influence the attitudes, achievements and performance of teachers. This causes a decrease in their motivation levels. Statistics prove that teachers have a low morale country wide. 3Research Methodology Research question: How did the changed work circumstances of teachers influence their attitude towards their work and their motivation levels? This is a qualitative study in which interviews, six in total, with teachers with more than eight years’ experience of parallel medium (former Model C schools) and black schools were used. / Dissertation (MEd (Educational Leadership))--University of Pretoria, 2006. / Education Management and Policy Studies / MEd / unrestricted

Assessing the level of job satisfaction of some educators in the Vaal Triangle / Tessa Louise LloydLloyd, Tessa Louise January 2013 (has links)
A country’s education system is a vital component of the country’s success. Without an excellent education system, our social, economic and financial positioning becomes threatened. At the heart of our education system lie our educators. Good educators are the key to an excellent education system. The loss of educators to the education system is significantly more than the current influx of qualified educators into schools. A great concern is why the South African education system is losing such large quantities of qualified and experienced educators. The literature review of this study focused on the factors contributing to job (dis)satisfaction and how it impacts on educators. Various sources were used to complete the literature study.
The empirical study was done by means of quantitative research by distributing questionnaires to participating schools in the Vaal Triangle District. The educators at each of these schools were asked to complete a questionnaire that focussed on the issues that may contribute to job (dis)satisfaction and were divided into different sub-sections. The results were analysed and interpreted and certain recommendations were made in terms of the direct results and conclusions raised by the empirical study.
The primary objective of this study was to determine the level of job satisfaction among some educators in the Vaal Triangle schools. The researcher looked at various trends in the education system and collected data relating to the determinants of job (dis)satisfaction in the school environment.
The study showed that educators within the study population were not satisfied with their working conditions and should these issues be addressed by Department of Education, it could lead to fewer educators leaving the education system to seek work elsewhere. / MBA, North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014

Die werkstevredenheid van die inspekteur van onderwys in die Noordkaap / Christoffel Andreas SmitSmit, Christoffel Andreas January 1999 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that influence the work
satisfaction of inspectors of education in the Northern Cape. This aim is
achieved by firstly conducting a literature study on the nature of work
satisfaction and factors responsible for inspector work satisfaction and/or
work dissatisfaction. Secondly an empirical investigation is conducted on the
perceptions of inspectors about factors influencing their work satisfaction.
Finally, recommendations are made through which inspectors of education
can achieve optimal work satisfaction for themselves.
Findings from the literature study indicate that work context and work contents
factors influence inspector work satisfaction. Work context factors mainly
concern supervision and working conditions. Working conditions include
aspects such as physical working conditions, leadership, interpersonal
relationships, policy, participation in decision-making, salary, work safety,
work security and the organizational climate. Work context factors relate to
inspectors' needs for psychological growth and self-fulfilment viz., the needs
for responsibility, recognition, promotion, the work itself and professional
development.
Findings from the empirical investigation indicate that the respondents are
less satisfied in their jobs than is generally reported. Inspectors regard the
satisfaction of work context factors as very important and are partly
contended that these needs are satisfied. However there are numerous work
context factors from which they derive relatively little work satisfaction, inter
alia, working conditions with regard to some supervisory activities,
participation in decision-making and strategic planning in the department of
education, work security and work safety. The factors within the work
context are experienced as mostly satisfying.
The recommendations of this study emphasise the necessity of an effective
line of communication between the Education Department and the regional
office, and the Education Department should launch a penetrating
investigation into the filling of vacancies at the level of inspectors. With the
aim on participatory management as many as possible role-players should be
involved at provincial level. With the aim of professional development of both
newly appointed inspectors of education and more experienced inspectors of
education a professional inclusion program must be developed regarding
better role and task fulfilment. / Thesis (MEd)--PU for CHE, 1999

Bestuursfaktore wat die werkstevredenheid van hoofde van sekondêre skole in die Noord-Kaapprovinsie beïnvloed / Hendrik van der Poll KirstenKirsten, Hendrik Van der Poll January 2000 (has links)
The aim of this research is threefold:
• to determine the nature of job satisfaction;
• to determine the factors which influence the job satisfaction of principals at secondary schools; and
• to determine which factors influence the job satisfaction of principals at secondary schools in practice.
In order to achieve these aims a literature study and empirical study were undertaken.
The literature study was based on primary and secondary sources. A DIALOG
computer search was undertaken with the keywords such as: work motivation; work
satisfaction, teaching conditions; teacher motivation, secondary school and principal.
The nature of job satisfaction was then discussed. Once the management factors that
influence work satisfaction of principals were identified, they were grouped and
discussed under the following headings:
• factors that centres in the principal himself;
• factors situated within the school;
• factors at management level;
• factors within the community; and
• factors within the teaching career.
A questionnaire was compiled from existing questionnaires (that of Hillebrand, 1989;
Esterhuizen, 1989; Du Toit, 1994; Engelbrecht, 1996 and the Minnesota Importance
Questionnaire, 1985).
All principals at secondary schools in the Northern Cape Province, excluding schools of
Correctional Services, were taken as target group in this research. The questionnaires
were sent to principals within the target group. The information was statistically
analized with the aid of a computer after with it was interpreted. Subsequent to these
results recommendations were made.
The empirical study showed that principals at secondary schools experience
reasonable work satisfaction but that there are still certain factors which should be
addressed.
Certain recommendations are made on the basis of the empirical investigation. The
most important recommendations are that the problem of work security should be
addressed, rationalisation and assessment of teachers should be planned carefully and
the communication between the school and the Education Department should be
improved. Achievements of principals should receive more acknowledgement. / Thesis (M.Ed.)--Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education, 2000
