In this sense, the purpose of this study is to reflect about social identity and self-concept of wheelchair dancer, within context of spectacles open to the public and relations created between dancers and audience. Thus, for this study purposes, it is understood that dance becomes relevant as it creates an environment for communication between groups or social identities, built in relation with the "other". As a data collection technique, interviews are carried out with dancers from wheelchair dance groups or companies, applying content analysis technique procedures, to find indicators for interviewed dancers' answers analysis. Collected material enabled us to comment disabled dancer artist's social identity and social role, mediated by relations established among dance, disabled body, society and self-concept, mediated by relations and feedbacks between dancers and audiences, within context of rehearsals, spectacles and post-spectacles / Mestrado / Atividade Fisica Adaptada / Mestre em Educação Física

The wheelchair dance sport is a competitive sport dancing that is practiced in many countries. The sport is played in pairs in two styles: the duo dance, the two athletes in wheelchair dance, as in combi, an athlete must have the need to use the wheelchair to dance and another standing dance partner without any disability. This latter style has been practiced in Brazil for about ten years. The purpose of this study was to tell the history of wheelchair dance sport in the country considering facts and voices. To do so and write a factual and chronological version, based on documents, it was tried to find the basis in oral history which gives the minorities, in this case people with disabilities, a voice in the society. The athletes had the opportunity to communicate their experiences. In doing so they were motivated to search in their memories the meaningful facts related to the wheelchair sportive dance that helped to create an imaginary about the sport history in their lives. This study started from the need to understand how this modality without roots in Brazilian culture was produced and consolidated in the country, and even without any support for about ten years, it remained until today. Taking into consideration scientific and chronological history referred to the emergence and construction of the wheelchair sportive dance thru the events and important facts considered by the athletes implicated in this context shows us a different story compared to other sports and announces a time of evolution for this sport.

SENTIDOS E SIGNIFICADOS PARA O SE-MOVIMENTAR NA DANÇA EM CADEIRA DE RODAS / SENSES AND MEANINGS FOR THE "SELF-MOVE" ON WHEELCHAIR DANCE

Rigo, Laís Cavalheiro 21 March 2016 (has links)
Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul / We come upon critical about to dance and doing dance through techniques or "nontechnical" based in the repetition and copying movements, studies that warn us to the necessity of theoretical insights to legitimize dance and to dance as an expression and communication. Thinking about Wheelchair Dance (DCR) as a manifestation of increasing dance in search of spaces beyond the standardization of movements and gestures, we traced as the central objective of this study was to establish relationships between the Theory of "Self - Move Human" with the DCR teaching. To do this, we long constitute theorists deepening about the Dance that originated notes on aspects inherent the theme, as expressiveness, sensitivity, perception, body and creativity. From this we outline of intervention possibilities for DCR teaching. We understand that they ought not to study, research, write about Dance, one consisting phenomenon of imperceptible variables, by following a predefined method, based on certain assumptions. We commit to develop a theoretical research, a reflection on Dance, incited to argue and write about this phenomenon, enabling new syntheses go to meet the sense and meaning from our study, of our work. We find, in the dialogic relationship movement, possibilities for "doing dance" of expressive and communicative way, taking into account the senses and meanings intertwined in the movement of the subject danceable.

Bewegingsaktiwiteite as 'n moonlike sleutel tot emosionele en sosiale ontwikkeling vir rolstoelgebonde leerders / Movement activities as a possible key to emotional and social development of wheelchair bound learners

Marais, Eileen 11 1900 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / The importance of the emotional and social development of a human being is highlighted by this research study, while the ability of the human spirit to transcend the human body has inspired the researcher to investigate movement activities as a potential key to the emotional and social development of wheelchair-bound learners. The researcher has chosen participation in wheelchair dancing to determine whether wheelchair-bound learners show development on emotional and social levels by investigating their intra- and interpersonal abilities before and after participating in wheelchair dancing. Intra- and interpersonal abilities are interdependent abilities and are regarded important components of emotional intelligence. In the interest of validity and reliability, the researcher used purposeful sampling in the selection of her participants. The participants had to meet certain requirements. She undertook a constructivist investigation, from an interpretive perspective, as a (primarily) qualitative study, with an interactive case study design and multimethod strategies. The smaller, quantitative component of the research study is the Piers-Harris Children’s Self-Concept Scale, Second Edition (Piers-Harris 2), which offers as pre- and post-test a baseline assessment for the participants’ emotional and social development in respect of self-concept. The theoretical approach for this study is a combination of the medical deficit model and the social model, with stronger emphasis on the development and healing approach of the social model, than on the deficit-and-control approach of the medical deficit model. The focus of the study is not on the constraints suffered by the wheelchair-bound learners, but rather on the possible development that may take place in the learners through their participation in movement activities. The researcher strongly relies on the social model in an attempt to gain understanding of the problems that wheelchair-bound learners currently experience in the education system, so that schools can be developed that would meet learners’ needs. The research results offer answers to the primary and secondary research questions and the general objective of this research study has been achieved. The researcher has determined that wheelchair-bound learners show emotional and social development after participation in movement activities. The emotional intelligence of all the participants has increased and each experienced increased self-actualisation since having participated in wheelchair dancing. The research results reflect more growth in respect of the learners’ intrapersonal abilities than in their interpersonal abilities. The researcher’s specific objectives would be achieved, when she submits the research results of this study to policy makers in the Department of Education, thus expanding the boundaries of existing knowledge about the relationship between wheelchair-bound learners’ participation in movement activities and their emotional and social development. / Inclusive Education / M.
