Técnicas heurísticas de escalonamento paralelo em workflow / Heuristic scheduling techniques for parallel workflow

Tampelini, Leonardo Garcia, 1983- 20 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Jacques Wainer / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Computação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-20T14:02:06Z (GMT). With the dissemination of business management technologies, companies look for to promoting faster services with higher quality. In this context, areas such as workflow management have contributed to a better organization in the distribution of tasks. The approach between scheduling area and workflow area shows great potential to attend these requirements, but a lack of studies directed to the treatment of parallel routing structures, commonly found in workflow models, is apparent escalation in the literature about scheduling. This work aims to approximate these two areas, presenting three new scheduling approaches, directed to the raging of the cases within routing structures parallel (AND). To reach this objective a set of simulators was implemented, representing the dynamic workflow environment, their uncertainties, as well as the different scenarios where that structures such as AND may occur. The performance of these politics was compared with rules widely used in workflow systems, such as FIFO (First In First Out), EDD (Earliest Due Date) and SPT (Shortest Processing Time). The results show that it is more advantageous to use techniques focused on AND routing structure than only apply the most utilized ones / Mestrado / Ciência da Computação / Mestre em Ciência da Computação

Tallroth, Linus January 2017 (has links)

Carlsson, Henrik, Karlsson, Johan January 2005 (has links)

A Comparison of Vistrails and Taverna, and Workflow Interoperability

Nyasulu, Jonas January 2009 (has links)
In silico experiments in the field of bioinformatics generate large amounts of data since most of the tasks are done in an exploratory fashion. Workflows are one of the many tools used by scientists to model complex tasks. The interoperability of data generated from these tools plays an important role in improving the efficiency of such tools and also in verifying results from other experiments. We aim to compare workflow systems by integrating bioinformatics data in Vistrails and Taverna. We also look at how the two systems use the open provenance model that has been developed to bring provenance interoperability. We developed web services to perform similar functions of some workflows in Vistrails. With the services we were able to perform most of the tasks we planned using both systems. Differences in how lists of items are processed in the two systems results in differences in how workflows are composed in the two systems. In Taverna there is implicit iteration and Vistrails requires the use of additional modules to perform iteration. There are also differences in the execution times of workflows using web services, with workflows in Taverna taking longer than their counterparts in Vistrails. There are some similarities in the execution pattern of workflows if same workflow is invokedmultiple times, with the first invocation taking longer time than the subsequent ones.

Executing a process enhancement intervention on the processing lines at Seavuna Fishing Company

Abdullah, Philip Rodger January 2017 (has links)
The fresh hake processing lines at Seavuna fishing company in Mossel Bay are not consistently achieving their volume output standards and this is resulting in higher processing costs and loss of processing opportunities. The company’s senior management are concerned about this trend and require a complete review of the effectiveness of the resources deployed on the lines. This with the view of establishing the causes of poor process volume output. In order to resolve the process inefficiency challenges mentioned, this study used both empirical and time studies to investigate the effectiveness of the company’s resources directly deployed in the processing unit. The study focused on investigating the human factor, machinery and equipment, the environment and the current efficiency standards. Relevant literature in the field of process efficiency improvement was consulted to assist in identifying factors that are known to cause process inefficiencies, and also to establish which improvement techniques would be relevant in correcting the situation. From the Literature reviewed, it was evident that a ‘one size fits all’ solution to resolving inefficiencies is almost non-existent and that a solution that is relevant to the problem is more effective. In addition, a benchmarking exercise was also done to establish how Seavuna’s current volume output standards fair against its major rivals. Once data from both studies were collected, the results were analysed using the some of the basic quality tools. Thereafter, lean manufacturing principles were used to attempt to resolve the current efficiency challenges. The study recommended that the company construct a business strategy and a corresponding organisational culture to direct its continuous improvement interventions. The use of strategic quality planning would go a long way in assisting the company to execute some of the interventions recommended.

Getting Good Installation Guides

Karlström, Erik, Nydén, Johan January 2010 (has links)
Implementations and installations of Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERP-systems)are often time consuming and complex processes. Technicians who workwith installations of ERP-systems require tools and utilities in order to perform theirwork in a time efficient and qualitative manner. This study is performed at the company Industrial and Financial Systems (IFS) inLinköping and has focused on the technical documentation that describes theinstallation process, "IFS Installation Guide". This guide is one of the most importanttools available to facilitate the installation process of the ERP-system, IFSApplications. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze and suggest improvements to the usability andworkflow aspects of IFS Installation Guide. This study is based on seven semistructuredinterviews and one observation with IFS employees working on variousconsultancy services within IFS ‘key regions’. The result from the interviews highlightsa number of problems, which have been analyzed and investigated together withrelevant literature. The findings of this study demonstrate that it is of utmost importance to have a cleartarget audience, easy channels for feedback and that information must be easy tofind in order to develop and maintain high quality in technical documentation.

Industry Foundation Classes : A study of its requested use in Configura

Jensen, Henrik January 2015 (has links)
Configura Sverige AB is developing the software solutions Configura and CET Designer for companies dealing with highly configurable and complex products that also require space planning. The aim is to simplify the selling process. Configura Sverige AB has received requests from their customers to be able to read and write files according to an ISO standard called Industry Foundation Classes (IFC). IFC is an open international standard within Building Information Modeling (BIM) to exchange data between different software applications used for projects in the building industry and facility management. To assist Configura Sverige AB in a decision on how to further proceed, questions why users request IFC, how they need to work with IFC, and about possible workflows with IFC are considered in this thesis. To answer the questions, an interpretive case study method was used to view the questions from different perspectives. A qualitative approach was used to collect and analyze data, involving for example a survey among users requesting IFC and input from two different contractors requesting IFC files from these users. The results show that users have been requested by architects and contractors to supply IFC files, and a conclusion is that demands on the use of BIM and IFC within the public sector in certain countries is a major reason to these requests. The results has much focus on import and export of IFC files and on possible workflows using IFC files. With IFC files, users may be a part of a collaboration between several different disciplines within the building industry. Users need to base their work on other disciplines models, which in many cases will be the architect's IFC file. An IFC export shall only include the user's products, it will be up to another application to integrate these products in a coordination BIM. The IFC export will be used for interdisciplinary coordination, visualization and collision detection and it is important to use simple graphical representation of the products.
